Hi Everyone!

Last week's poll winner was Dunkirk! Having seen Interstellar and Inception now, we are super excited to see another Nolan movie. With us watching Minority Report this week we though it'd be fun to do a Spielberg poll, so let us know which movie you'd be excited to watch with us!

Nathan Jasper

Oh man now this is a tough choice.

Thomas Yanez

Easiest choice ever. "Close encounters"!

John Colson

Close Encounters and it's an easy decision for me out of these options

Miles E Coburn

Spielberg is one of my least favorite directors, and "War of the Worlds" has some major problems, but that's the one I voted for.

David Harvey

I voted for "Catch Me if You Can" because it's a different Spielberg film, a great caper and detective film with Leo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

Paul G

All of them - all four are right in your wheelhouse. Let the poll determine watch order.

Clipped

Close Encounters is incredible. It's in my top 10 films of all time, for sure. The effects have held up shockingly well. Maybe even better than Star Wars, and that's saying a lot. Every single acting performance in this film is stellar. (No pun intended I swear.) And one particular US geological formation will never look the same to you again.

Gareth

Damn you guys sure like to make it hard for us aye.... It's Spielberg, watch em all :)

Michael Jones

I can see I’m very much being outvoted, but I would way prefer Hook to any of those films.

Sam

I would also recommend Duel. It's Spielberg's debut and really great.

William

Uh, Close Encounters. Easiest poll ever! 🤘🏼

ButtercupsTrueLove

It's almost forgotten now but Steven Spielberg directed an episode of "Columbo" starring the late Peter Falk, who was impressed enough with the 24-year old director that he helped get the TV studio to let him direct his first movie, "Duel" (1971). Even at this early stage of his career, you can see Spielberg's dramatic choices he made with this taut thriller. What if "Jaws" took place on the open road instead of the ocean, and the monster weighed 30 or 40 tons? Novelist and screenwriter Richard Matheson wrote, "Duel", as well as episodes of "The Twilight Zone" and one episode for "Star Trek", the original series.

Jason Weiner

Gotta go Hook for straight fun and satisfaction here. Then I'd go Catch Me if You Can , haven't seen it but it's rep is solid. 3rd would be War of the Worlds because Cruise always delivers on the fun. Can't understand how anyone could even recommend Close Encounters, found it slow and dumb.

Rob

Has to be Close Encounters. A movie I thought was very boring when I saw it as a teenager and has become one of my absolute favorites as an adult.

Patron saint

Yeah, Close Encounters is a classic. Can't be a movie fan without watching that. But Catch Me If You Can really is a close second. War of the World is okay, sci-fi movie with Tom Cruise so you know...

Joseph Olson

I voted for War of the Worlds. It doesn’t look like it’s going to win, but I would love to see you react to it in the future. Another Tom Cruise sci-fi movie (of course it includes a scene of him running), with a young Dakota Fanning giving a great performance.

spacious_recroom

But what if Close Encounters wins? Theatrical or director cut? 😉 Personally I prefer the theatrical cut.

WastedPo

If Close Encounters wins, I think the Director's Cut is the way to go. It's 2 hours and 17 minutes. (However, you should AVOID the version called "Special Edition" which is 2 hours and 12 minutes.)

James M

My faith is restored. "Close Encounters" stands head and shoulders above these other movies.

pawpaw72546

I must be one of the only Gen X-ers who has never seen Close Encounters. It's never caught my interest. Maybe this will be the time I finally watch it.

Pendergasted

Please don't let Hook fade away! I'm sure it will win a poll one of these days.

Clay F

I voted Catch Me If You Can. The most entertaining of the 4 to me. Close Encounters is an acquired taste but everyone should watch at least once. War of the Worlds does a good job. Hook is dead last for me.

YoureMrLebowski

Sometimes when I read the comments I get the feeling "none of the above" would get a strong showing. It wouldn't win, in fact I'm sure it would always get the fewest votes. But sometimes it might almost come in second to last.

JonB

Hell, watch em all!!

Over50Gamer

"Close Encounters" is a masterpiece of moviemaking and storytelling. Got my vote!

Damien

Yep close encounters

Guy-on-Couch

all great movies but I hope you guys watch Hook!!!!

Thomas Yanez

BTW, if "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" does win, please DO NOT watch the 1980 Special Edition. It makes some changes to the ending that a lot of fans (and the director) aren't happy with, though you might find it interesting to watch that ending (if you can find it) AFTER watching the original 1977 Theatrical cut or the 1988 Director's Cut (my favorite).

Jon Johns

As someone who is part of several Patreon memberships, I have to say, these polls are epic. Well done!

Empire of the Sun is great too
