Nice to see a reaction. This could have easily become the Indiana Jones also-ran of movies, but Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner would never let that happen. These are two actors with chops. And all things considered nothing else matters in the movie. They are given the pulp adventure story and each other and that's all these two need to make a really enjoyable movie.

The rom-com Raiders! Such a fun movie and great cast. Michael Douglas at his leading man peak. His career really took off around this time and he completely emerged from the shadow of his Hollywood legend father. You could do a Michael Douglas poll for what to see of the films that came next -- Fatal Attraction, Wall Street, Black Rain, The War of the Roses, Basic Instinct, Falling Down, The American President, The Ghost and the Darkness ... really some great ones in there.

This is a lot of fun but I think the sequel, Jewel of the Nile, is even better so I hope you watch that too!

Hi Chandra & Jordan, Please put "Twins" (1988) on your list to see. It stars Danny DeVito (the funny short guy in Romancing the Stone) and Arnold Schwartzenger in a very funny road trip adventure comedy.

I want to share some fun facts about this movie: Robert Zemeckis in his early career was seen as having a lot of promise. I believe at this point, the Back to the Future pitch was already being considered. However, he was also considered someone who couldn't make a financially successful movie, since apparently his comedy "Used Cars" didn't do well. And the script he wrote for Spielberg ("1941") was also one of Spielberg's few early failures. So Zemeckis went off "on his own" (away from Spielberg) to make "Romancing the Stone" to prove he could make a successful movie. And yes, this was a success. It was on the strength of this movie that Back to the Future got greenlit. Another fun fact: Romancing the Stone is the first collaboration between Zemeckis and music composer Alan Silvestri, who back then was not known for "big" orchestral film scoring. (He mostly dabbled in Pop/Jazzy music. Though here, there ARE some early hints of the big film score sound he later became known for.) Spielberg absolutely hated this synthy/saxophone 80's sound. So when Zemeckis was finally making Back to the Future, Spielberg was dead set on Zemeckis re-using Alan Silvestri to score Back to the Future. Spielberg wanted Back to the Future to have a John Williams-like score. (In fairness to Spielberg, Alan Silvestri had never really written a full-fledged, John Williams-esque score to a movie before Back to the Future.) So Zemeckis had Silvestri write the score to Back to the Future without telling Spielberg. In an early test screening, some of Silvestri's early compositions for Back to the Future were used. Spielberg (at the screening) told Zemeckis that THAT is the type of music that needed to be in "Back to the Future." It was then that Zemeckis told Spielberg that actually, this was the music score that Alan Silvestri was writing for Back to the Future.

These two had so much chemistry that they went on to have a full blown off screen relationship. Turner also voiced Jessica Rabbit if you can recognise that purr in her voice. Zemeckis had a series of writing flops. This was literally his last chance, so without the success of this there would be no Back to the Future.

I love these 80’s adventure films. I think you both would love the Australian 80’s adventure/western (with a lil romance) 😉…The Man from Snowy River (1982), starring Kirk Douglas (Michael’s dad).

I'm a little late to the comments section, as I was on vacation and traveling. Did you recognize Danny DeVito (the short guy)? He was the Penguin in Batman Returns. Also, if you loved this movie, I think you would also enjoy Crocodile Dundee. It definitely has similar vibes to this one, and is definitely a classic!
