Congratulations Ladies you are now about to watch 1 of the Best Horror movies ever, find more of Alfred Hitchcock, s films he is up there with Spielberg and Tarantino. ENJOY.

Snick

Woah what a legendary movie. Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece. Personally I am a huge fan of Dial M for Murder and Strangers on a Train.

John West

Look for Hitchcock early in the movie Balding Fat man in a suit,he appears in many of his movies, he is in Rearwindow and North by Northwest.

Jonathan Kidman

Very excited that you chose to react to this, please consider reacting to Psycho II (1983) after this, one of the best horror sequels.

Blackwargreymon00

Please react to. The Raid Redemption (2011) 🙏

John West

Janet Leigh is Jamie Lee Curtis, s mother.

fan

I hope you ladies watch more of the Alfred Hitchcock movies!

Henry N.

Really excited to see this. Though I also wish you could see Hitchcock in Technicolor. My dad must have been around 8 when this came out. He says he had never been so scared in his life. The only experience that came close for him was Alien, or maybe the Exorcist. I think Vertigo is Hitchcock's best film, but I'm not going to recommend it as a reaction. Though you guys have surprised me before.

Henry N.

Hitchcock surpasses Spielberg let's be honest.

John West

Taxidermy, they used to stuff the Birds with Sawdust.

John West

The Car in the movie is a 1958 Ford,it also appears in the movie Halloween H20 with the same Actress and her daughter Jamie Lee Curtis, You do remember your 1st Halloween movie Chi?

John West

Hella,Dear what you were looking at is what we call an Adam's Apple.

John West

The Blood in the shower scene was Chocolate syrup in Black and White it would just look like blood. It took Janet Leigh years before she would take Showers again, just Baths.

So, just in case you girls don't know. Let me define what a psychopath & a sociopath both are. A psychopath is a person incapable of feeling empathy or remorse they never experience feelings of loss/guilt/humiliation under any circumstance. The only emotions they ever feel is (if anything) selfish rage. & around 50% of serial killers are psychopaths. & they are born that way, it is a brain disfunction specifically in the amygdala mechanism of their brain. Which is why they will call people who shed a single tear under any circumstance as "so emotional". & the sociopath is a person who is molded that way from a very young age. From either neglect, some form of abuse, or having lived a life of crime, maybe living in a neighborhood with lots of criminal activities. & immoral things don't usually bother them like normal human beings as they get older and used to that. 2 different type of people with overlapping similarities. & both (psychopath & sociopath) are personality disorders.

Mr. Writhms

You Movie Munchies should watch "Psycho II" (1983). It is actually very good. The sequels 3 and 4-- forget those. 🫣

In case you're wondering, there is a show called "Bates Motel" which is supposed to be a prequel to Psycho, but they remade it into modern times. I haven't watched it myself, but I hear its good. There is 5 seasons.

aaarskog

Im so happy that your doing some old Hitckock-movies now! You have already done Rear Window and Psycho and you are going to do North by Northwest. I would reccomend that you also react to at least two more and thats «Vertigo» and «The birds».

Tim

Thank you, Munchies! What a truly classic movie! Love that you wore black and white for it - perfect. According to Wikipedia, in today's $, it was made in 1960 for $8 million, and in it's initial theatrical release made $544 million - wow.

Excellent, excellent reaction. I've been waiting over a year for you to react to an Alfred Hitchcock movie as a group and I wasn't disappointed. Can't wait to see your reaction to 'North by Northwest'. Alfred Hitchcock was a very influential director and has been noted by another commenter he makes brief on-screen appearances in many of his films. In 'Psycho' you can see him through the window as the man wearing the white cowboy hat when Marion returns to work at 8:26 of your reaction video. In 'Rear Window' he appears as the man winding a clock in the songwriter's apartment. Thank you so much for your reaction.

np86

based on you're reaction to this, i think you'll enjoy "Identity" 2003.

Johnny Sondergard

I watched this movie when I was a young kid, and it scared the Bejesus out of me 🤢🤢

Online Inflation Calculator: $40,000 in 1960 is worth $446,233.78 in 2026

"They're American.. They should have guns!! " ~ Hella knows things ✅ 🔫🤠🇺🇲

Everyone looking so fine in this reaction

This movie is inspired, by the crimes of Ed Gein. Other movies, inspired by Ed Gein's life, are the 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' 1974, 'Silence of the Lamb' 1991, and 'Ed Gein' the series.

Chi "But he doesn't know he's talking to a psycho.", Chi was a bit too quick with her suspicion.😅 This movie is one of the great classics of thriller cinema, and it was awesome to experience it with you ladies. When I first saw the movie, I already had a rough idea of the story's premise. Spoilers are hard to avoid with such well-known movies. It was really entertaining to watch you ladies guess what would happen and how your theories kept changing. The last shot of Norman with that crazy smile is haunting, truly masterfully played by Anthony Perkins. That was, as always, a great reaction, ladies.💜

Katie Davis

Loved this and the "Rear Window" reaction - the rest of the group should definitely watch Rear Window, as well. It's far less scary than Psycho but an absolute classic.

Katie Davis

Glad you're gonna be watching North by Northwest, too. Some other great Hitchcock movies: Vertigo To Catch a Thief Rope The Man Who Knew Too Much (Hitchcock directed both the British 1934 version & the 1956 version; if you watch only one, I recommend the 1956 version. Stars Doris Day and Jimmy Stewart) Notorious The Birds Spellbound Rebecca - based on the novel, which is also great (1940 version is the one that Hitchcock directed) Strangers on a Train The Wrong Man Also, "Niagara" was not directed by Hitchcock but really good and has some similar vibes. Stars Marilyn Monroe

Andy Smith

Thank you so much for this, it's one of my very favourite films so it was lovely to watch it along with you. Anthony Perkins was perfect casting, he was a bit of a hearththrob at the time so the audience then would have been even less suspicious of him than they would be now. Making Norman quite sweet and awkward was a clever touch - book Norman is much older and unpleasant. Perkins had a lot in common with Norman - father died young, mother became very inappropriate with him physically, and he was very shy and awkward around beautiful women (odd for a gay man maybe, but perhaps it was the mother thing that caused that). He was cast while the script was still being written so screenwriter Joseph Stefano spent a lot of time with Perkins and drew much inspiration from him for the little details. It's a fascinating film and well worth reading up on. Can't wait for North by Northwest.

Hello munchies ! Let's go for such a classic of a thriller/horror that everyone is knowing it even if they don't saw it (like me)! the movie is from 1960, that's why the movie is black and white. Having Hella jokingly said she was possesed by Ivy (because she almost called herself Ivy) is very funny when you know what the movie is about .🤣 In french, the movie was named "Psychose". the English titles is a word for people with mental problem. the french title is the word for the sickness of the mind. in both case, we know we gonna deal with some "f*ck up in the head" people !! "Remind of tom & Jerry" well ,kinda yeah !!! but clearly not the same ambiance !! 🤣 "He doens't know he's talking to a psycho"... sweet sweet Irony !!😂😂 I'm smilling way too hard on this one ! 😈😜 eating like a bird= idiom for "eating very little". for example, we can say that of someone who's satiate with only 100gr of food. Can someone name a movie where ,only by hearing the music, you can say this is THIS movie and THIS scene !?! that's how famous the shower scene is !! few people saw it today, but just by hearing the music ...we know the movie and the scene it came from! Hitchkock really made a classic scene with this one. Hella: "I really want to stop watching, this is too scary".... well, Im sorry Hella but reality is worse !! (if you're fragile don't read what is following! let the most solid heart of you read this !!!) The disturbing part about this movie: yes it's based on a novel, but both the novel and the movie are based on one REAL serial killer called Ed Gein !!! (Hannibal lecter from "silence of the lamb was also inspired by him in some way and also other famous Horror figure. I will not tell which one in case you want to see those movies and avoid spoiler). Ed Gein (1906-1984) was schizophrenic and the son of an abusive and fanatic mother who told him "every woman are sin's recipient" and an alcoholic father. After his father's death (in some very strange event. maybe Ed or his mom killed him) and also his mother's death......He began to dig out corpses in cemetery... and use body part and skin... to keep is mother in "one piece" and "fresh" ...."Frankenstein" style!!!🤮 (he's worse than Norman in this case) I'm NOT KIDDING OR JOKING AT ALL !!!! He even did furnitures with human skin (like lampshade, sheet, drapes, curtain.... ) !! and one day, corpses dead from cemetery was not enough anymore and he killed at least 2 women (Bernice Worden and Mary Hogan). Eg Gein was captured by the police who discovered everything. He got nickmaned "Plainfield's butcher" because of the butchery inside his house when the police arrived (between the furniture he also had the head of one of the woman there and the body of the otfher hanging and emptied like animal in a slaughterhouse...).🤢 He will die in a mental asylum after never truly being judged for his crime (because psychiatrist never stop arguing about how sick he was and if was "sane" enough to be judged). The other things being we know about 2 woman being killed and at least 15 desacralized tomb, but nothings is sure about it. maybe he killed more than he used dead.... we have 5 or 6 womans who disapeared around the same times, but no proof he killed them or used their body or skin. we will never know what really happened to those woman, and maybe it's better that way.... The movie took Ed Gein's mom issue, mindset on woman, effimenate attitude and his mental illness (schyzophrenia in that case) and you get Norman Bates. One of the most disturbing serial killer of the cinema with Hannibal Lecter. For your outro: Yeah, I understand this movie is such a classic!! and why so many movies and tv show made references about it. Even knowing what's gonna happen ( in the great lines) it still scared us and keep us thrilled for all the movie. and the storytelling is also interresting (you explained this yourself). Thanks for letting me discovering this classic with you! Poor Hella, I though she gonna hide during all the end after she find the mother's body !! Thanks and have a good day, Munchies!

Gaëtarrow

the irony of Chi's "he's talking to a psycho" and Hella almost saying "I'm Ivy" is maybe their most funny lines in this reaction . just for the irony of it! 😂 I agree, hard to avoid spoil on shuch an old movie. but even with that, the movie is still thrilling and scary. that's how good this movie is. truly a beautifull experience.

Andy

I saw this movie back in 1960 when i was 12 (I snuck in) I was looking forward to the shower scene that was so controversial for its time, but the movie scared the crap out of me!!!!

Alex Anderson

Waited a long time for this one. Thanks for finally doing it. Someone else mentioned the prequel show Bates Motel, it's a good show and it's more modern. It's something you could do for your Patreon only show. You've seen Silence of the Lambs and now this, all you need now is Texas Chainsaw Massacre. All 3 movies were inspired by the serial killer Ed Gein, who also just recently got his own show. It's only one season and pretty well done if you're interested. The show has a few scenes that show the making of Psycho, TCM, and Silence of the Lambs. A couple other popular movies you have yet to do are Children of Men and City of God. Hopefully we get to those sometime in the future.

Alex Anderson

They actually suspected very little and were quite surprised, some reactors I've seen figure things out too early

Robert Durant

Ole’ Ed sure got a lot careers started.

Running away with 40.000$ is like running away with half a milion today, and the car costed her the equivalent of today's 7500$, more or less.

Bernard Herrmann really outdid himself with the music in this movie. One of my favorite soundtracks. He is my favorite movie composer, even over John Williams.

chris brown

Great Reaction as always, I liked Hella's comment at 36:15. Another good Alfred Hitchcock movie is The Wrong Man (1956) Janet Leigh is also in The Fog(1980) which also stars her Daughter Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween)

Pinitchio

When "Psycho" came out, most American horror films were B movies (unserious and campy--monsters, ghosts, aliens). "Psycho" took it's subject matter serious and became a VERY influential modern American horror film. It was also shocking and very violent for its time. Other people in the comments have mentioned that "Psycho ll" (1983) would be worth reacting to and I would agree. But STAY AWAY from the other sequels.

Chris Kodama

Movie Munchies - Don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but Alfred Hitchcock (the director) made short cameo appearances in many of his movies. In Psycho he's the man with the hat outside the real estate office (you can see him through the window as Marion Crane is walking in through the door). In Rear Window he's the man in the suit winding the clock on the mantle in the song writer's apartment. The song writer is at the piano working on a song. Alfred Hitchcock turns to say something to the song writer and the song writer turns and responds. Look for Alfred Hitchcock in his other movies you plan to do reactions to in the future.

Andy

This movie REALLY scared Hella!!!! Me TOO back in the day. I wonder which one scared her more this or the Exorcist.

Michael Hodge

Gotta check out the sequel. It's the best horror sequel ever. Psycho 2 from 1983 is def worth a watch.

Jonah Engebretsen

This was the first movie I watched in my american high school film class!

Eddy

He's WAY higher than Spielberg, let alone Tarantino. Many directors, including those of La Nouvelle Vague, consider him one of the greatest directors in cinema history, having helped create the norms of modern cinema.

Eddy

Hitchcock is one of the greatest directors of all time. Vertigo might just be his greatest film, so making it one of the all time greats.

John West

The other secretary in the Office is Hitchcock, s Daughter Pat.

Nathanial House

"We all go a little mad sometimes." - Norman Bates "I'm the master... Of suspense, so intense... No defense against Hitchcock once he presents." - (not quite) Alfred Hitchcock.

Nathanial House

"Here's the director to do a walk-thru with his wife. Egomaniac." - Phil Moscowitz (from 'What's Up Tiger Lily')

Duncan

No end credits…. just that awful Anthony Perkins stare at the end. 💀 THE END. 👏👏👏

Duncan

I once had the privilege of watching this movie with someone who had never seen it before. It was wonderful. Thank you Munchies, for doing that all over again. And respect to you for getting through the shower scene.

Duncan

Both still horribly tense movies, after all this time. One can watch them both, multiple times, yet still feels like it’s a white knuckle ride!

Duncan

I loved that! ‘oh, you really don’t know who the bad person is, yet!’ 😬 And it makes you realise again how excellent the movie is!

Duncan

Friday December 11th, 2:43pm….. Right from the get go, Alfred ‘MacGuffins’ the feck out of everyone! 🙂

Jay Perry

Great movie. Great reaction. But mental illness should not always be thought of as violent.
