Just some further background information related to this movie. Since 2009. The International Waters of the region around the eastern coast of Africa (which is often referred to as the 'Horn of Africa') including Somalia has had a permanent multinational Naval taskforce located there. It is called 'Combined Task Force 151", their stated aim is to prevent and disrupt Piracy and Robbery at Sea in this region.

Don't believe the lies/justifications the Somalis were giving for their piracy and murder. Somalia has a long history of warlords controlling everything, not exploitation by western nations. Corruption and short-sighted selfishness are what reigns in that nation. They do it to themselves. The USA alone has given Somalia over $3 billion in aid just in the last 20 years - that's not even taking into consideration 30 years before that and all the other UN aid they've received. They continue to waste it and engage in piracy.

they had been colony of the british and the italians! don't forget that. and the modern country is the two colonial territory being stick together, of course there's a chaotic situation. had the poverty, the geographic situation on the main commercial road, a huge population of sailor and fisherman. of course piracy will be common. and don't forget that for them, this is not lies, this is their life (how they see it). they aren't monster who love plundering everything (maybe some became but not all). criminals yes, poor people stuck in a country with huge corruption some civil war and many drougts and aridity (makinf food hard to get), yes again. don't mixed the politics and the people who want to find a way to survive, please. Plus, they don't really lied when they said they we're fishermen. they just add piracy to their way to earn money.

Great reaction, that was so intense. And VERY emotional at the end... i always felt bad for the younger one too. 🥹I did some research about the 4th one, the leader who was captured. Apparently he will be released in 12 years. Isn't that crazy? Captain pirate was only 18 during the whole incident.. Well, the USA was a British colony, and we did kinda ok, right? LOL. Sorry I don't buy the "we were a colony" excuse. Many ex-Brit colonies actually adopted what they learned, such as nearby Kenya.

not the "ex-british" the problem. the problem is making one country with 2 colonial states (one british, the other Italian) who have nothing in common. you can't build a functionnal country with 2 administration who have almost nothing in common in how they work. Plus, If you compare how USA was when they get independent and how somalia was .... you're compairing 2 things completety different. Of course, "they were colony" is not an excuse. but let's be honest most of Africa sufferd very heavely of European colonization and decolonization. I'm Belgian, I know hat I mean! theCongo (both RDA and Brazaville) and his many civil war and Rwanda (with his Genocide) are our legacy in the region. and don't think US did better. (look at Liberia's story.). But I don't want to make fight. let's agree to disagree. and have a nice day!

Hello Munchies. For this one, this is a complete discovery (I don't know neither the movie, neither the real event they are showing in it !!) so let's go ! "He looks older" well, tom hanks is 69 years old today. he was 56 years old when the movie was made. so yes , he look way older than he did Forrest gump. For what I know (or heard) about all that: the horns of africa and the somalians coast are famous for the piracy in those water. Somalia was colonized half by Italians, half by englishs. when the country was united after the indenpendance , the two block merged with 2 different administration who lead in a mess, a civil war and lot of corruption... the country is very dry and has often Famine in it. (btw, ther's still fish to take, but there's alot of illegal fidhing plus the pirates who's making fishing very dangerous). So yes , poor people taking their chance as pirates is something real. (not justified whatsoever, but we understand "why"). Last year, 137 attack from somalian pirates. With what is happening today, WIth Ormuz, I'm curious how they're dealing with that 😅. I just know that we have a big somalian pirates in jail here in Belgium, Mohamed Abdi Hassan (dit "Afweyne"), captured when police trapped him by telling him " We want to make a documentory about Piracy ! could you come in Bruges ?" 🤣 no joke!. Chi, they know the position of the ship because of the radar. Yankee is both a basseball team, but also a nickanme for American. (mostly those from the north, descendant from English colonist). the kath as the same effect as meth . better awarenes but very making you unstable mentally. (walter white should sold this instead of cooking meth 🤣). They got 6 millions on a ship, but they giva a good amount to the war lords (their boss). I think , Tom hanks is now becoming my favourites actor! He's so talented and have so many diffierent character range to play! thanks for this discovery. I learned a lot ! I love the concept the the Patreon Only. It would be very nice if you want to watch more Tom Hanks Movie 2 of his earlier Comedy Movies The Burbs and Money Pit. From his "older Movies" its Saving Mr. Banks, thats a (bitter)sweat Movie about the Making of the Movie Mary Poppins from 1996 you already watched on the Channel.

Agree with other suggestions for Master and Commander (2003) and throwing in The Bounty (1984). A true story about the crew of a British ship who mutiny after not wanting to leave Tahiti......and who can blame them. I prob would've been part of the mutiny crew too.

Thank you for your reaction! I'd like to recommend the movie 'Lifeboat' (1944) directed by Alfred Hitchcock. This is a survival film is set during World War 2. Also, 'Black Hawk Down' (2001) directed by Ridley Scott. This film is based on true events from the 1990's and set in Somalia. I agree with other commenters who've recommended, 'Master and Commander' directed by Peter Weir.

A lot of people outside of the US, like these Somali pirates, seem to underestimate the willingness the American military is willing to go to save one life. Doesn’t matter how much money it costs. Doesn’t matter how much equipment it costs. This movie was based on a true story, and there are other examples of this sort of operation happening.
