Dear Yuna, Many thanks for your continued reactions to these older films. Although 'Jacob's Ladder' is a film I'm not really in love with, I appreciate your interest in film and your thoughtful comments. If I could make some suggestions for upcoming Halloween: Would you be willing to react to horror films from the 1950's and 1960's? The films I have in mind are 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' (1956, dir. Don Siegel) and/or 'Night of the Living Dead' (1968, dir. George Romero). Both films are true classics. 'Night of the Living Dead' is considered the beginning of the modern zombie movie genre. 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' is a timeless sci-fi horror thriller masterpiece. Also, I suggest for any horror movie viewing is not to watch it alone. I feel sorry for any of the Munchies whenever they reacted to a horror movie just by themselves. Sincerely, happy movie watching.

Cool movie, great choice!

Hello munchie !! I never heard of this movie! Not at all...but if you said it didn't succeed a lot in first place, it make sense! But after reading that's a horror movie, can I say that I'm worrying a little for yuna? 😅 I'm not sure what kind of horror this is. But still... I'm curious to discover that with Yuna and her sharp mind! 😊 Let's go!! For the movie Oh the Vietnam's war. No wonder for the PTSD then. . Wait... that no common weapon! Was it just a dream with his PTSD ? Or is some supernatural thing in the air? 🤔🤔 "She's creepy" clearly!! Ok noww that's official. Something unnatural is there! "Yeah, that way" that was very cute Yuna ! 😅 But that was one very creepy metro ride! 😅 Wait, isn't that the kid from "home alone," ??? 🤣 The picture looked a lot like him! But burning the pictures was a "b*tch" move. "WTH" clearly the transition are savage in this movie! But very good too !! 😁😂 What ??? Is she having horns ? Like a demon ? And what she couldn't say the doctor is dead ? 🤔🤔 Very strange. That song ... The lyrics in french "do you want sleep(have sex) with le tonight". Clearly a different mood. Wait, already dead... Is he a ghost with the demon torturing him to take him back to hell ?? Is that it ?? I'm lost with you Yuna.... Yeah it's him ! It's the "home alone kid" !! That's a surprise. Making research on demon? The best way to drag them to you! My new theory: they all died...but they didn't stay"dead" they are undead and creatures are torturing them until they get to hell . Or the military tried something and it marked them for those creatures. The most funny santa I saw in a long time! 🤣 What kind of hospitals is that?? Ok that's very gross...your "worse and worse" was well placed yuna !! Chemical...I prefer that honestly. But honestly, that kind of experiment did happen. During WW2, the german look for drugs like that. Thats how we discovered some drugs like meth or ecstasy ( if I don't mixed them, I may be wrong for which drugs). But they clearly tried that! ( On the long run, it made them loose! 🤣) So honestly, the idea that the Americans tried the same in Vietnam... Not surprising at all. No is it true or not?? I don't know. Ho... so everything was a dream in a coma before dying from his wound on the battlefield!? Wow... great plotwist! For the conclusions I'm with you. I couldn't decide if it was pure trauma or the chemicals. The movie blurred so well the limit between the events, the timeline and what is real with his transition and very visual effects!! The critic of how the society ( and mostly politics) are dealing with theirs veterans with PTSD is clear. But also rhe end is also criticizing how they use their soldiers as "lab-rat" in their wars. The movie caught me good too. I really believed it was some demons of supernatural thing. But no! Just the dream of a man seeing his life passing as he die on a battlefield after some experimental weapons was tested. Very good plot twist! And the transition, the fact that we get lost in time, not believing what we saw and hear or even wondering what is really real...ghe movie is extremely good at it! Honestly, an excellent movie! Lot of surprises. Even Yuna, who is very observent and quick to understand things, had trouble following! That's something! Really good one! Thanks for the discovery!! Have a beautiful day! And good luck to not have trauma, Yuna !!😁 Good day, munchies!

Good reaction Yuna 🫰 If you like this type of psychological thriller, try: A Beautiful Mind (2001)

Dajefe70

Yeah psychological horror is tough to watch alone, but Yuna is tough for doing it!

Manospondylus

It's right to be scared of chiropractors. They are peddling nonsense. Best to go to a real doctor.

John Secret

Holy smokes! Yuna, this is a very serious movie. I’m impressed! 🔥

Snick

Been a long time since I watched this movie. This movie is not for the fainthearted and Yuna is watching it alone. There are multiple theories but honestly if you ask me the entire movie plays in his mind when he got ambushed and stabbed. He fought very hard but eventually could not make it. If Yuna is into psychological thrillers, I would recommend a movie named The Machinist.

Blue

Thank you, Yuna, for this great reaction to this great movie 🩷

Chris Carman

It's pretty sweet that Yuna gets the *coolest* movies on here. :D

Thomas Simmons

I didn't like this movie when I first seen it in the theater when it came out. Maybe it plays better watching it at home on tv. This is the third time I've seen it. I find it more meaningful now. I guess I've matured. Lol Thanks for picking this movie out Yuna!!!

Steven

This director, Adrian Lyne is interesting. He mostly makes kinda sexy thrillers: Fatal Attraction 1987, 9 1/2 Weeks, Indecent Proposal, but here he does a great job with a psychological horror movie that in the end feels almost uplifting. Many of the actors would go on to become very big stars, but most surprising is Gabe, played by Macaulay Culkin, would become super famous for starring in HOME ALONE.

This is a fantastic film that really benefits from multiple viewings. There are so many small details that only become apparent when you watch it more than once. The title, Jacob's Ladder, is actually a spoiler in itself. Jacob's Ladder is a biblical concept, the connection angels use to travel between heaven and earth. Essentially, only the scenes in Vietnam are truly real; everything else represents Jacob's soul trapped in a kind of purgatory. As Louis explains, if you cling too tightly to life, angels (which can appear as demons) try to forcibly take you to the afterlife; only when you let go of your old life do you realize they were truly angels. Louis acts as Jacob's guardian angel, trying to guide him toward a gentle, painless transition. By the end of the film, Jacob has made peace with his life and, above all, finally processed the guilt he felt over his son's death. His son then appears to him as an angel and leads him, quite literally, up Jacob's Ladder into heaven. This is one interpretation, and my personal favorite. If you view it from a more scientific perspective, you could explain it all as a fever dream experienced by the dying Jacob, where his brain is simply trying to make sense of the situation during his final moments. The demons serve as a visual representation of the shock Jacob suffered upon realizing a comrade had killed him, as well as the side effects of the drug experiments. The visions of his son, conversely, stem from the unresolved guilt he feels over the boy's death. In either case, the film ends with Jacob accepting his death and giving up the struggle to survive, though the path leading to that moment carries very different meanings. The film is also considered the primary inspiration for the Silent Hill video games. The often surreal, depressive atmosphere, the hellish "Otherworld", faceless demons with unnatural movements, monsters that aren't truly monsters but rather manifestations of one's own guilt, and an unreliable (mentally unstable) protagonist, these are all elements for which Team Silent drew direct inspiration from the film. There is even a direct cinematic reference in Silent Hill 3: the protagonist, Heather Mason, ends up on the tracks at the "Bergen Street" subway station and narrowly escapes an oncoming train, the very same station and an almost identical scene to the one where Jacob is nearly run over by a windowless train. The plot point involving soldiers being experimented on with drugs is based on real events. While the film significantly exaggerates the drugs' effectiveness, the impact on the soldiers, especially the long-term effects, was nonetheless horrific. Because the soldiers were unaware they were being experimented on, it was difficult to identify the true causes of their suffering. That was as always a wonderful reaction, Yuna. Thanks for reacting to such an intense film on your own.💜

Gaëtarrow

How did I not see the biblical reference?? But thanks a lot for all the intell! Silent hill coming from this movie is a surprise, but it makes sense when you know how those games play with the symbols. Thanks. Really. Have a good day!

Crazy but cool movie

Yes, I don't know this movie. And hundreds of other. Or just by names only. And so what? Only the cinema's lover who saw everything can follow the munchies and see it? No place for some to discover? That's what you say!? Listen, I don't want to make a mess. Just for once listen carefully. My problem was you were insulting people for liking the movies and bashing the movie because YOU don't like them (like you were the only one who can say "this is good and this isn't"). Never because you didn't wanted them! If you had said " I don't like it, but have a good time nonetheless", I would have never tried! But because I was just as stupid as you, I did answer because it was too unfair to this people and the munchies for me. For this movie Was I bashing this movie? No I discovered it, sharing my thoughts at the same time ( because I write my comment while watching). Was I saying " do something better!" or "this movie is bad"? No, I get curious. I discover. And honestly, it's a good movie for his story and technics, but I don't love it either. Some scenes really disgusted me. It's clearly a movie I saw once but not 2. But I shared my opinion with respect. Without insulting those who do like it. ( Something you clearly never did ) The other day, you said "you're back" . I was never gone ! I blocked you because I was losing my peace of mind because of your constant criticism and over self-righteousness!!!( "MY taste are the best" 😤) But I was thinking "come on this is stupid. Unblock that thing. It's childish. We are supposed to be mature." So I unblocked you....in a way , to make peace.( If we can say that)And the first real comment ( if I don't count the welcome back) that you do is: making a fuss because I don't know a movie released before my birth, plus an horror movie ( which is my least favourite genre of all the cinema with pure "romance"),one that even yuna said it has gain a "little fandom with the time" because "it didn't work that much in his release"(not even sure it had his fan base where I live or in my generation) and because before I took the defence of some movies and people YOU insulted and was making a scene !!!!!! If you want to not read me at all , say it. I block you again!! I don't want to make problems to the munchies because of you ! They don't deserve it!! So if it need that to finally having peace! I'm ok with it!!! So with all my respect ( and all the calm I'm summoning to not insult you): have a good day and except of you"concrete intell" to share, leave me alone. Are we good like that? Do we make peace? 👋🤝? ( Believe me, I will not waste my time longer if you keep buzzing me of)

Mark W

WHOEVER recommended this movie BRAVO!!! Been waiting for the movie that inspired the original Team Silent Hill to make it to The Munchies! 😎

"There is a light that shines in the darkness..." On the "Meister Eckhart" door of the church in Erfurt, Germany. Thank you, Yuna, for sharing this movie's profound message (attributed to Eckhart) with us. Reminds us of a later great quote from the same actor, Tim Robbins, "Hope is a good thing..."

DC

Not my favorite movie, but I enjoyed Yuna's reactions, and especially the commentary after. I hope she keeps doing older movie solo reactions.

TippedDuke

Great suggestion. Based off a true story too.

John Shook

Great reaction, Yuna!

Chris Kodama

I tried watching this movie when I was much younger but couldn't watch it till the end because I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. Now, decades later I was able to watch the entire movie with Yuna and finally realize that Jacob never really left Vietnam at all. What a mind job. Thanks to Yuna I can finally say I understand and appreciate this movie. Looking forward to Yuna's next solo reaction.
