If you want to see another movie with the same actor, Choi Min Sik, check out I Saw the Devil, it's another psychological thriller that's just as good as Oldboy.

the Vivaldi piece works so well in this movie. what a great soundtrack to go along with a great movie. Park Chan-wook portrays the twisted aspects of the mind so artistically. still probably my favorite Korean film

"I Saw the Devil" is a fantastic choice. Unrelated, but "A Tale of Two Sisters" is another Korean horror film they should check out as well.

I’m always a bit torn when it comes to Oldboy. On the one hand, it’s a brilliant film with an amazing fight sequence; on the other hand, the story’s theme is so disturbing and dark. I always say that some movies aren't meant to be fun. This rewatch with Chi is only the third time I’ve seen the film, and I definitely wouldn't have watched it again without her. She really picked a tough movie for a surprise solo reaction. As always, that was a great reaction, Chi!💜

That was a dreadful rewatch for me. It always breaks my heart the scene in the elevator, when Lee Woo-Jin goes back to that place at the dam. 🥲 something he's been carrying his whole life. I agree. It's very sad Mi-do came into the crossfire as well. Great reacrion, Chi. This was a really well made film. A very twistful story, but the acting, cinematography, and score are amazing. 🙂‍↕️

I love Yuna’s individual reactions, but Chi is a great solo reactor in her own right. She has a spontaneous, stream of consciousness style (a little like her sister not surprisingly) so I’d love to see her make a few more solo reactions every now and then but always retain the group

Whoa, what a ride. I've seen this movie several times and experienced all the same emotions as the previous viewings, but watching it while Chi is reacting elevated it to another level. The director of Oldboy, Park Chan-wook, did an earlier movie called Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) that I think would make another good Patreon Only solo Chi reaction.

I'm a huge fan of Korean Cinema and if I had to choose between American movies and Korea movies...well, luckily I don't have to choose. Park Chan-Wook actually made a trilogy of movies focused on VENGANCE. SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGANCE 2002 OLD BOY 2003 LADY VENGANCE 2005 He's made a lot of great films, but I really love DECISION TO LEAVE 2022 and NO OTHER CHOICE 2025

Hello Chi! What a surprise to see you all by yourself. It was a long time ago since the last time you did something by yourself. I wasn't even there yet. so +- 1 year and 1/4.... already... Let's go! "I was a sweet summer child" seeing and hearing you sometimes, it still the case! 😉 let's say that some reaction may have made more "thougher"... good or bad things? you know yourself better than us. I know the movie only by name. and I also saw some scene. but I don't know it really. So another discovery with the munchies !! yes ! and I think it must be my first korean...I think...If I don't count K-pop deamon hunter with the others munchies. Let's see that for the movie. I agree, can we let the dog go ? Don't they have cells foe people to sobering up in Korea? or just in this place? that's what we have in europe for drunk people too dangerous. specials cells for them to sleep and once awake and sober, get out! or they took them back home direcly...it depend... Oh you can speak korean, Chi? hey, for a cell for 15 years, it could have been a way worse one. it seem quite "luxurious" for a cell. not realy want to stay either. "I keep asking why" me too... Princess Diana's death was in 1997. so it gave us an idea when the movie is happening. of course,the twins tower of 9/11. so the movie is set up in early 2000's "you can taste a human" me: what? "he's not your lover !" are you sure it didn't seemed it was what you were going Chi . 😅 (joking) "everyone deserve to live. except some pure evil" 🤣 "TV don't learn you cursed word" come in Europe....you'll learn very quickly!🤣🤣 well, if "imaginative training" work, I way be the best archer and swordman in the world ! 🤣 I heard this "legend" about woman who can't do Sushi because of their "warm hand". I heard it was a thing to keep them away from being chef in Japan before. poor octopus !! I hope it wasn't a true one! it looked so real...but the story you shared about the guy who died doig something like that was interresting. never heard that. "what's that?" the medicine? they are supositories.... medicine to give throu the *ss... "gave what?" sex...this girl is as freaky as him !! bassicaly she said "we learn to know eachother, I'll restrain myself until I feel ready to have sex. and I'll be when I'll sing a specific song. and once we go, you must go full on." did we really need to see the theet being pulled out? 🤢🤯 But for what I understand, they are a group who's creating perfect assasins. Oh that's the only scene I knew of the movie, the fight in the hallway with the hammer. the filming for this one is very good and original. no wonder it became the most emblematic scene. but how did he do with those in the elevator? I agree, the bad guy look way too young. was he 10 when he put Dae-su in "prison"? Anyway, Evil Chi is back in force ! 😅😈 Damn, he got so lucky to still have all his teeth... "it's so awkward" clearly...."i'm out of english word to describe the situation" I'm lacking frecnh one too.... "why lock her?" to keep her away from danger and because she would have follow if we don't stop her. isn't that the brother ? "what am I seeing?" what are we seeing!??Inc*st....that's messed up on so many level. now it make sense, Dae-su saw them together, began the rumour, and she developed a "False pregnancy" (the woman is not pregnant, but act like it. no period , belly growing, lactation in the breast, etc... every clue that a women is pregnant. but actually she is not) she believe she was pregnant...her body acted that way because she believe the rumours !!! Oh no!!! Dae-su was with....NOOOO!!! 🤢🤢🤢 this guy is crazy in his head on so many level to think about a plan like that !!! In a case like that, Death is too sweet for him! Why cut your tongues !!!??? "this movie is killing me" me too!!! 🥲 i'm having a hard time finding the ending ....happy. For the conclusion I heard the story about the brother and sister couple too... for the question "does he deserve that consequence" I'll say no! the incest was real in first place. Dae-su may have spoke when he wasn't supposed to. but Incest are illegal and forbiden, by humans and God. they were guilty first. and the brother in his own pride and arrogance (I think he saw himself as a god sometimes, the cinematography made me say that) decide he has to punish and drag along so many people in it.... Now apparently, Korea had a lot of wedding between cousins and half-brother and half sister, but the law in 1997 made it like any modern countries (no marriages if not under 8 degre of kinship). so "maybe", it would have been "tolerated" in the moment of the rumours... but I don't know. I don't know Korean cultures enough and I don't want to make strange assumption on something I don't know... just for me, the inc*st in first place was horrible enough.... but trapped both Dae-su and Mi-do like that....It's not even Machiavelic, niether diabolical...we need a new word for it.... Mi-do is clearly the biggest victim. she lost all her life with that. The story is really way too heavy! now for having to say, you're right. the cinematography, the music, the action, the acting and the way the story is build is just excellent !!! It's just the story who's way too heavy, sometimes maybe too violent or grpahic (did we need to see Mi-do's breast when captured? or the sex-scene? the age gap was already making it very awkward, but the other one...🤢🤢and knowing the truth afterward is just horrible...) And the ending is as horrible. it's quite open but even if he forgot, he's still her father. if they continue their life together....it's horrible. the inc*st is still here! he's supposed to have forgotten, but the last picture is leaving a big douts... For me, it's no way an happy ending. Good movie: definitly. but an horrible story. and all of that because two young ones did one of the most horrible sin possible and another one spoke to one guy about what he shouldn't. Thanks for the discovery, Chi. this one may traumatize me a little to be honest. this was way too heavy. interesting yes! but horrible. thanks anyway! and yes, I had a good times, until the revelation of Dae-su and Mi-do's links. Nope, you can't say "I wanted marvel movies " ! I discovered the munchies on YouTube with Troy when they were already around avengers 1. And I joined somewhere near endgame! But if you have to say something about what they choose to look, speak to the munchies and leave the other enjoy their moments! Please. I don't want to fight. So have a nice day!

i love park chan wook but hated this film when i watched it as a teen. I still think the handmaiden is far better. they should really be watching some of bong joon ho's films. mother, parasite, memories of murder
