Your reaction to his "peek-a-boo" makes this episode worth it

Another “bad” episode that I like!!!! 😂 a gross, body-horror type monster is a cool first, and his weird little face 😭 plus you get interesting shots like when the camera turns upside down to follow Lazarus as he runs along the corridor 🫡 Another mention of Harold Saxon 👁️👄👁️ stay out of our business maybe jeez

“You were never really just a passenger.” 🥹🥹 MY MANNN I’m so glad Martha stood on business and rejected the constant “one more trip” suggestion, she said I’m a COMPANION or nothing baby!!!! And she is!!! Been a huge fan of NuWho since I was a kid but when I was young I couldn’t properly appreciate the slow building of trust between the doctor and his companions until now. Like, was this the first instance of him trusting her with his screwdriver? 🥹 omg, imagine when she gets the key

carly powell

Professor Lazarus is literally what you call, " Nightmare monster"

The creature design here is interesting but very flawed. The tail is reminiscent of the creatures in Deep Rising (1998). I think it looks cool & then they only end up showing it just once. The face is pretty big whiff. The best way to describe it is flat. I can understand the thought behind it & the want for the human element to come through. It just doesn't work though. There are a couple different expressions that it uses, most of the time it's this. It looks very silly attached to the body.

The stuff with Martha's family doesn't do much for me either. By this point in Series 1 Jackie had already been in twice as many episodes with probably 10 times as much screen time overall. It's easy to understand parental concern. Watching it though it feels incredibly hollow because we know The Doctor is a good guy & we haven't seen enough of Francine to care otherwise what she thinks.

I appreciate the thought behind the philosophical conversations & the parallels between The Doctor & Lazarus. Unfortunately it feels like just service level stuff because of how little on-screen time Lazarus as not a CGI abomination. Overall this episode is still better than the worst of last series. I wouldn't even say it's bad. Just kind of eh.
