Icicles for 92! I have had a few requests for this subject, but buckle up because this is truly a trust the process painting. A lot of what makes an icicle look like an icicle, are the random shapes and reflections within it. Have fun with the background and try whatever colors and shapes you prefer. Take your time to really look at the reference photos and mimic the shapes you see. Squint and stand back to focus and see if the icicles start to come to life after you build up the different shapes. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: The palette I'm using today is the split primary palette by letter sparrow: cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, magenta, ultramarine blue, cerulean(probably closer to phthalo blue), indigo and sap green. I don't use all the colors, but I will name them as I mix them. Feel free to use pre mixed convenience colors as well.

Masking fluid - I used winsor and newton pigmented masking fluid to mask off the ice

White paint - optional. I used white gouache at the end for ice reflections around the stick

Brushes: round 4 & 10- Princeton brand. Also- 3/0 detail brush

Wow I loved the second painting you brought in at the end. It really stood out with the clear ice around the stem. That one was my favourite thanks for sharing Kristin have a great day. Here in uk we had a first snow flurry and the snow flakes were huge but melted. Such good timing. I am enjoying being signed up to you too 🥳
