Hello friends!

I’m so excited to share our painting plans for 2026! After seeing how much joy and growth came from our tiny paintings this year, we’re honing in a little further focusing on monthly watercolor techniques that will help us strengthen our skills, stay inspired, and paint an amazing variety of subjects together.

Each month in 2026 will center around a specific technique. To kick off each month, we’ll meet for a live class on the 1st, where I’ll walk you through the basics of that month’s technique. This will be short and sweet and will include warm-up exercises, stroke practice, and sketchbook ideas to help you get comfortable before diving into the tiny paintings. It will be a fun, relaxed way to ease into the new theme together and build confidence in the skills we’ll be focusing on all month long. There will still be 8-9 paintings per month, every Tuesday and Friday, that will help us get to 100 by the end of the year.

Here is the list of themes for 2026

January – Wet into wet and water control February – Creating textureMarch – Layering & glazingApril – Dry brushMay – Lifting June – Negative paintingJuly – Splatter & spatter techniquesAugust – Gradient & variegated washesSeptember – BlendingOctober – Masking November – Line and WashDecember – Granulation & Using white paint

The paintings for each theme will focus on helping us improve that specific technique, while inevitably using others as well. Some examples: painting a dragonfly with a focus on layering the wings, an ocean wave crashing on a rock with a focus on splatter in the spray, and how to use granulating pigments to your advantage while painting a landscape in December.

Then, for our second live class at the end of each month, we will vote on a reference photo to paint together that fits within that month's theme. I think the live classes have been a crowd favorite, so I'm excited to have more purpose and direction for them.

I am really excited for the focused direction in 2026 and I'm currently coming up with ideas for paintings for each month. If you have suggestions of things you want to paint, let me know below so I can find a place for them within the themed months.

✨ More news! I'm also introducing an optional new tier for those of you who want daily access to comments and feedback from me on your paintings. This will be in a private group chat for members of that tier. This won’t replace anything, everything in the current tiers will stay exactly the same, and I’ll still pop in the usual chat with comments from time to time like I do now. The new tier is simply an extra option for anyone wanting more frequent guidance and conversation around their work.

I’m genuinely thrilled for what’s ahead. Thank you for being here, for showing up with your creativity, and for making this community such a warm and inspiring place. Let’s make 2026 our most joyful, colorful painting year yet!

Stacey

Oh I’d be interested in the feedback tier!

Murr

This is an awesome idea!

Erin Berlin

Yassssssssssss! I have loved 2025's Tinies so very very very much! I know I haven't share mine here in a while, but I've had an insane year. The tiniest have really been good for me. Thank you <3

Christin Slade

Yay this is so exciting!! I’ve just set some painting goals for myself but I may need to squeeze these in, too!!

Dana

I love the idea of focusing on technique! Can’t wait to get started 😃

Jessica Shoemaker

This is so exciting! For the feedback tier, would that include feedback on your own original compositions too, or just the tiny paintings?

Sally Jordan

So very happy to read that the tiny paintings will continue! Thank you!

Cindy

I love this idea of focusing on a specific skill each month! Thank you!

Mary K Wessling

Sounds like fun, I'm so behind on the current one, but I'm painting ahead, LOL!! Will they still be the same size as the current tiny paintings?

Jerika Ortlieb

I think a tiny raccoon could be perfect for a couple of the techniques :)

Dana

I would love to do some different dimensions, maybe 3x4, or 3x5.

Kristin Van Leuven

Yes! I'm trying to keep everything the same that was working. There will be a few tweaks to the overall set up, but I think they will be helpful. I will send more info out about that closer to Jan

Kristin Van Leuven

I just added it to the membership options in case anyone is interested in starting sooner than later haha!

Kristin Van Leuven

That's a great idea too! I think I could even show some of the tinies with that option if people are ready to go a little bigger

Karla

Will the 100 tiny paintings from 2025 be available at least for a little while into 2026? Or do I need to "binge paint" 73 tiny paintings this month? 😂

Noelle

So exciting. Question about 2025 tiny paintings. How long will we have access to these?

Kathleen Eckler

Thank you! It will be so helpful to focus on technique and keep building. Very excited!

Noelle

Also, I love 3x3 and I like that they are all the same size. It creates a cool collection.

Melodee Skiles

So happy they are the same size—I still have lots of room in my 288-slot album! 😁

Erin T

I LOVE this!!!!! So excited!

Melodee Skiles

I can help answer this! Kristin has said they will always be available as long as you are a Patreon member!

Melodee Skiles

Kristin, you continue to amaze me! You are such a fountain of great ideas. I’m so excited to keep painting with you, and LOVE the idea of each month focusing on a particular technique!

Rainie

Very excited to continue to grow and learn new skills and techniques. Thank you Kristin!

Brenda R

Sounds fantastic! Looking forward to learning even more in 2026! Thank you for everything you do 😊

Katherine

So exciting! I love the focus on techniques!

marielle

Kristin, your thoughtfulness and creativity never fail to amaze me. I don't know how you came up with this brilliant plan, but - I love it! Looking forward to another year of tinies!

Johanna

Thank you for the content for 2025. It has and is so exciting to learn a new skill!! So looking forward to 2026 and the outline you have created!! Love the idea of an extra tier!!

Shirley

I would love that option too

Terri Benyon

Kristin, You are amazing! Thank you again for keeping us all inspired. I love this plan. I am so excited that we will be continuing on with tiny paintings in 2026.

Terri Benyon

I am also very interested in the additional tier. Can't wait !

Manuela

Yes please! I feel so ready to scale up in size 😃

Chris

I was wondering the same thing since I just joined.

Pari Gilmour

For subject matter, I love doing insects, animals, birds and specific flowers. If we did one of each, each month that would be 48 days. A more challenging but still fun one is a pathway through a forest in different seasons, and waterfalls.

Susan

Adding some composition tips would be helpful to me. How to compose a painting So it feels balanced and engaging. I can follow but don’t know how to create a composition

Kels

Love the updates for 2026! Appreciate the creativity with your subjects and consistent use of a limited palette.

Sara Huestis

Ahh I’m so excited you’re repeating this, and I’m nowhere near done with 2025 😂

Vicki

I am excited for next year too since I was late getting into the game this year and now I have slacked with the tinies cuz I am busy making Christmas Cards. Your plan sounds wonderful, as does the next tier with feedback. I would like to see more tutorials with animals and people and buildings. Seems this year was primarily focused on outdoors and specific objects. Maybe that could also be a nice change?

Erin T

Agreed! 3x3 is a great size!

Amanda

Yes!! So good for 2026! Looking forward to this!!

Annie

I have really enjoyed the tiny paintings and feel like I’ve learned so much. 2026 sounds perfectly focused for continued progress. Thank you!

Heather R Hare

Oooh that sounds amazing!!! I can’t wait! 😍

florencia vitaver

Best news ever!!! When I look at my early tiny paintings vs more recent ones the difference is stunning. I've grown so much with this project and am very excited to continue it!!! Thank you for all your hard work!

Joanny

Amazing!! I’m loving the plan for 2026! This is my first year learning watercolor and I can’t be happier with all that I’ve learned from Kristin’s classes so far. Thank you Kristin!! 💕🎨

Cynthia

This is exciting! So looking forward to an artful 2026 🎨💫

Kimberley Breilein

This is all so exciting! Kristin I have no idea how you do what you do, but know that you are so appreciated in this wonderful community you have built!!

Bear Raeb Barrett

Question: private tier chat Can I still access the chat that I have access to now

Pam

Sooo excited for 2026, Kristin🙂 You have built a lovely supportive community here and so happy that we can all continue our watercolor journey together in 2026.

Bear Raeb Barrett

When you get a chance, send me a link to your phone holder that you use 🤗 I appreciate it. Enjoy yourself, no rush. Just a reminder for you (from July 11th) before France

Mimi-me

This sounds fantastic! Thank you so much x

Joolz

Love this concept! I’d really like to paint one of the Kilauea lava fountains that have been going off this year! 🌋

Nora

Great plan! It helps beginners like me, to practice the necessary techniques!

Patti

I would love to do a hot air balloon!!! Thank you for All the creative vibes you share

Wilma Voermans

Love the tiny paintings and happy you will do another 100 in 2026 ! Little scenes are so nice to paint when I have a half hour left. The tinys with pattern ....not soo much. But others like them maybe, we cant have it all. :)

Laura Brey

More landscapes, more composition and perhaps some line and wash?

Jennifer

How wonderful!!! I can’t wait!

Ann Marie

I'm really behind with the 2025 set, will we still be able to access those as we move into 2026? I'm new to the group, joined at the end of spring.

Bonnie Garcia

I would like to know this too. Will they be on Patreon forever?

Roseanne Therese

This sounds amazing for 2026! I am super excited ! 🙂

Sanne van der Veen

Amazing plans voor 2026 Kristin, this all sounds great! Cant wait!

Sandy

I appreciate you so much Kristin! Thank you! I’m so excited about the new tier too! I already joined!

Erin T

She said you’ll have access for as long as you’re a member!

Donna

I’m in! Sounds great!

Kristin Van Leuven

I’m grateful for your activity in the group! You’re so great at getting to questions that I miss sometimes 😅

Kristin Van Leuven

They will never go away and you will have access to them as long as you’re a member ♥️

Kristin Van Leuven

Yes exactly what Melodee said! They will stay up in the 2025 collection and can access them at any time

Kristin Van Leuven

Yes what Erin said! They won’t go away and you can access them at any time. They’ll be in the collection “2025”

Kristin Van Leuven

Haha yes I know what you mean! Not every painting will be the most interesting for every person but hopefully something learned each time ♥️

Karla

Thank you so much!

Karla

Yay, thank you as well for responding!

Melodee Skiles

It’s so much to keep up on, and you are busy making tutorials! So if I can help answer a question I’m happy to do so. :)

Ann Marie

Thank you ❤️

debbie

This sounds WONDERFUL, Kristin. How much will the new tier cost? I’m wondering if you would consider limiting the number of people in this tier. I appreciated the way you commented more frequently back when the mini paintings began. The group has grown so big, which is both wonderful and in one easy

debbie

And in one way not so. Thank you for this amazing program.

Kristin Van Leuven

Yes I totally know what you mean. I set it at $15/ month so it's not completely out of reach, but should still stay small. I'm going to monitor it closely and if it starts getting too big I will definitely limit it. I agree the group getting bigger is so great, but a lot harder to keep up with the chat at the rate I was at the beginning, I appreciate your understanding!

Jennifer Hughes

Thank you for continuing your tiny painting series. I’m just getting started on my watercolor journey and your ‘bite sized’ lessons and projects make it so much easier to fit into a busy schedule. I’d love it if you could incorporate some quick brushstroke demos that beginners like myself could practice before using them in a painting. For subject matter, I agree with some others about wanting to see some tiny animals, especially squirrels.

Lynn Bailey

So happy to hear this news, truly love watching your videos. Grateful for the focus on technique - think that's a great way to "attack" it. Keep doing what you do.

Heather S

I’m so excited for this! Thank you!

Shar

Thank you for your amazing ability to explain the process, your patience, and support in growing a kind community.❤️

Darlene McGrady

Love the tiny painting tutorials, and excited for the 2026 new series!

Anita Stolk

This sounds so well thought out, looking foward to it!

Eva Eden

So Exciting!!

Cyndy

I love how you have laid out the plan for 2026. Looking forward to it. Thanks

Len_ Morris

ever thought of changing the size to the size of ACO format?

debbie

I am going to sign up now! Thank you everything, Kristin and happy Thanksgiving. I would vote for staying with the 3x3s for this class as you do larger sizes in your other collections. I love the minis!

Creative Lettering Practice by Delon

This is pretty lovely, thanks so much for sharing. Hoping all is well these days. Looking forward to what the new year has to share ✨

Elizabeth

I really, really, REALLY hope that I can join in on more things next year. I loved the few tiny paintings I did and will pick and choose from what's there to complete a tiny sketchbook and then hopefully next year I will feel confident enough to actually USE the Arches paper I bought about 3 years ago and have never used.

Jade Winfree

Hello! Is there a way to post our versions of the paintings? I am relatively new so sorry if there is an obvious answer. If there isn’t, would that be something we could do next year? I would love to see others versions. I am a real newbie to watercolor and right now I am thinking maybe my sister doesn’t want to be my only outlet for sharing 🤣. Thank you for this Patreon! I have a book of yours I bought during the pandemic and a friend inspired me to get it back out. I was diagnosed with cancer and my treatment is pretty intense so I needed a hobby but maybe coloring felt too much like just for fun? And watercolor feels like just the right balance of adulting and fun? Either way, was happy to break everything back out and find that you have this interactive platform now. 🫶🩷

Kristin Van Leuven

Hi Jade! I’m so happy you’re here and that watercolor could give you some solace during treatment. I am sending all the positive healing vibes your way! For the pictures, there’s a group chat option when you click on the community tab at the top of the page that will get you to the right place. It’s a great place to share and get feedback. We have such a lovely group!

Pam

Kristin, not sure how this could work, but you’re brilliant so I will ask…I feel that I am able to follow along well with tutorials….where I struggle a bit is looking at a reference photo and planning out a painting…I feel like I am beginning to understand light to dark values, shadows, and contrast but I struggle with the overall structure in being true to the reference while taking liberties and making it my own. The rabbit and icicle paintings are perfect examples….if I tried them on my own, I would have struggled….when you explained your thought process, made perfect sense. Thanks so much for all you do to guide us on this artistic journey🙂🎨

Jade Winfree

Found it - I hadn’t accepted the community standards. I just read it as “you have accepted these”. Thanks! So excited to get more into the group.

Doris

Kristin, love your plan for 2026 and I'm excited to be learning new techniques with the mini paintings. Thank you for the interesting content and guidance you provide,

Christine

That is a brilliant idea Kristin. Looking forward to it!

Kristen

Sounds awesome! I love this plan 🩷

Susan C Terris

Kristin, would you be willing to add the difficulty level to a description of each lesson? It helps me know which one to choose to work on (like fairly easy, moderately challenging, very challenging)? Of course though I've not kept up with each of the 100 (so far) I'm going to keep at it!

Liz

Use the good stuff! It makes such a difference and you can get 12 tiny pieces out of each sheet of 9 x 12 paper. So worth it!!

Susan Bricker

I love your ideas for 2026 Kristin and I can't wait!! You're an awesome teacher and so generous with your teaching, energy and time. I'm grateful, thanks so much.

Sarah Dwyer

Hi Kristin, Great ideas for 2026. What do you think of the idea of 100 painting on slightly larger paper, not so tiny. what about 4" square.?? Might this extend us further? Thanks for all the great tutorials this year

Christine Mizzi

I’m so glad that you are continuing the tiny paintings. I have loved this year so much!!!

ellen lekatz

Love love, love the tiny pictures. It’s really all I wanna do.

ellen lekatz

When will we learn more about this new tier?

Mary Hoover

Hi. I love this approach. Thank you. I'm setting up a calendar for 2026 and I'm wondering if you have times decided for the live sessions?

Sonya Romens

I'm excited for the new year! I've learned so much this year, but having been looking for more focused lessons. Your new plan sounds like exactly what I need! Thank you Kristin!!

Joalie

I appreciate the flexibility in your approach and your enthusiasm, very motivating.

Nancy Dooley

I am only half way through 2025 tiny paintings but I am looking forward to starting the 2026 one and then doubling back. SOOO excited

Lori

How does Patreon work and what is the cost???

Carla Giller

I’m new here and I’m wondering if the live tutorials that are planned for each month will be available on the Patreon site if I can’t make it to the live session? Does anyone know??

Pam

Hi Carla🙂 Yes, the live tutorials are available on Kristin’s Patreon. I have never attended a live, but have been part of the “ replay crew” several times. There should be a “collection “ tab on your Patreon site where you can find them

Jeany Pfaff

I'm right there with you! Just finished #52

Denomin8tor

So the 100 tiny paintings are only going to be here on patreon not YouTube am I correct?

Kristin Van Leuven

The full demos will be here on Patreon. I might show a few shorts of the paintings though

Sarah

yesss, how much

Sandra Ann Simmons

Well I fizzled out around 35.... but loved it, so maybe I will double back as well.

Donna

Kristin do we have to rejoin or are we automatically enrolled in 2026?

Jean

I’m pretty new to watercolor - is this series suitable for beginners?

Leslie

Looking forward to painting with you in 2026. I really enjoy your sessions and have learned so much.

Clare

Okay, I think I want to join this year. Do you pay to get the tutorials, or are they free? Having a hard time understanding. Thank you.

Kristin Van Leuven

Hi! If you pay for the monthly membership then you get everything available here on Patreon. That includes all the 100 tiny paintings, YouTube videos ad free, live classes and any other extras. It also includes access to the community chat as well

Clare

I took the plunge. Looking forward to it. Thank you!

Christine

Hi Kristin, I see you have planned the schedule for 2026. Thank you. I have one request. Can you incorporate color mixing into any of them? I know you explain your mixes during the tiny painting sessions, but it is too quick for me to follow. This is where I struggle. I am not sure if anyone else does. Thanks

Julie

Hi Kristin! I am a beginner. Do you recommend that I go back and start with the 2025 100 paintings before starting 2026? I don't want to be behind. Thank you!!

Kristin Van Leuven

Welcome! I don’t think it will matter so much because the skills will build off of each other. I try to keep it fairly simple even if the subjects are more complicated. I do think a lot of the paintings in the first half of the 2025 series are a great warm up to what we will be doing in 2026

Gocha

Hi Kristin. I am also a beginner but so exited to be here with You. I am trying to catch up and painting tasks from 2025 and 2026 in the meantime :) It is not all easy for me but what is important it gives me a lot of joy and that what it is all about:) thank You:)

Mary Lutz

I had two major surgeries in 2025 and got really behind in the 2025 series. I finally did finish them all but would recommend that you not try to paint all of the 2025 paintings before beginning the 2026 series (too much pressure, not as much fun !). Just begin on the new 2026 series and go back when you have time and paint SOME of those from 2025 that really catch your eye! Just my experience. Mary L

Jamie Badore Art

So glad I found you! For the #100dayproject this year I am doing 3x3 canvas! Love your teaching style!

Cindy Nelson

Yes! This is a great idea! I too struggle

Cindy Nelson

Yes they are all on Patreon Carla

Cindy Nelson

I would love more animals, waterfalls, architecture ( inside and out), ballet classes/performances ( some with kids, some adults). Thank you Kristin! I’m loving your Patreon!
