Painting 8 is a fuzzy cat! I love painting animals, especially cats, with the wet into wet technique. It allow the bleeds and blends to look like fuzzy hair if done just right. A few tips: make sure your cat color doesn't have too much water when you add it to the cat. This will help the color from spreading too far. Also, add the color to the inner side of the pencil sketch so that the paint can spread just slightly beyond it, creating the hair texture. I chose not to add a background so I could let the fuzzy hair bleeds shine on their own. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: For this project I am using a split primary palette- cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, magenta, ultramarine blue, cerulean, indigo and sap green. The colors I'm using today are -cad yellow, cad red, ultramarine blue, and perm rose.

Brushes: round 4 and 10 - Princeton brand.

Omg my kiddo is gonna demand me make one of these for her. Kitty obsessed!

Vicki

LOL! In the interest of “equality” mine are demanding a dog now!

Mary Kay

You make it all look so easy. I love cats. Do you have a cat Kristin?

Jeanette

Whaaaat!?! So cute! 💞 I’m excited to try my brush at this one!

Shelly

So cute! Excited to try and really thankful for Kristin's instruction.

Lindsay

SO CUTE. I would love to get better at animals. —People always ask you to try to sketch their dog and you always know how bad it will be hahaha

Michelle

So stinking cute! If I get 30% right I’ll call it a success 💕

Vicki

I sketched my 14+ yr old dog and it came out so good that I have been too afraid to oaint it now fir fear of ruining it. Sketches can be erasespd and changed easily, watercolors notsomuch.

Deidre

How do you see the paintings once people post them?

Melodee Skiles

Deidre, there’s a “chats” tab on Patreon. There is a chat for posting Accessing it depends on which device you are using, but you might see an icon at the bottom, or a list of tabs at the top when you click Kristin’s picture. I think on a computer it may be on the left.

Deidre

Thanks!

Questions...Do you wet your paint pans (spray bottle or water dropper) before you start mixing colors? It doesn't look like it, but it could just be that you started recording after that step. Maybe that's why my mixtures often seem to thinnen? Also, still hoping to confirm if this is French ultramarine, since I can't find just Ultramarine by Windsor Newton professional. I'm going to try my WNP French Ultramarine for this one and see if I like my browns better. The DS Ultramarine is just to light and feels weaker.

Helen

I have a gray tabby that I’d love to try to paint. How would you mix the gray?

Stephanie Stearns

Your provided sketch is different from what you drew in the video fwiw.

Kristin Van Leuven

The sketch outline I provide is based on the painting at the end after I’m finished. I outline the exact finished piece so I can put details in that others might need at the beginning, like the eyes

Gwen Ritch

That was fun to paint

Leslie

Kristen made it look so easy and fun! My first was horrible, the second is better, but hopefully i’ll be happy with the third. The eye is difficult!

Nancy Dooley

Same - I tried it twice and my second one was better but now looks like a fox

Leslie

I made so many but none looked like hers!😂
