Tree close up for #11! In this painting we use 3 different types of texture techniques to get a beautiful tree. Start light and slowly build up the textures in the leaves and in the trunk. Each layer might feel insignificant, but they help the next one on top feel cohesive. After placing texture either with the cling wrap or the dry bruh technique, use clean water to smooth out some of the texture so you have a mix of hard lines and soft watercolor effect. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Cling wrap for leaf textures. Other options: sponge or a splayed bristle brush.

Paint: For this project I am using a split primary palette- cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, magenta, ultramarine blue, cerulean, indigo and sap green. The colors I'm using today are - Sap green, cad yellow, cad red and ultramarine blue. I'm mixing all the browns using ultramarine blue, cad red and cad yellow, but you can use a convenience brown if you prefer not to mix.

Brushes: round 4 & 10 - Princeton brand.

Love this sooooo much! Trees are one of my favorites!

Three ways to have texture! I also love how you built three different greens and browns for three different parts. That really helped for me to see how to darken green and brown. I am so enjoying the monthly themes! Thank you Kristin 💕

What is that knife? It's like a heavy duty scalpel.

Just a comment - I have a slightly more difficult time telling what color you are mixing on the blue palette - I'm honestly quite impressed you can tell. Would you be able to stick to white palettes moving forward when able?

Laurie Cammarata

That was a great lesson. Lots of different techniques to try. Thank you!

I loved doing this one, and as a beginner, feel I learned alot. Thanks Kristin!
