Stone wall for #14! The first part of this painting goes quick. Adding wet into wet layers of color and then using a card to scrape the stone shapes before the paint has a chance to dry. I would try this technique out first on a scrap piece of paper, but remember that it doesn't matter too much how the stone shapes look. Define the edges with darker crevice lines and moss and watch the painting slowly come together. There are a lot of "hard to look at" portions of this painting that might make you think you messed up, but don't give up! Trust the process. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: For this project I am using a split primary palette- cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, magenta, ultramarine blue, cerulean, indigo and sap green. The colors I'm using today are - cad yellow, cad red, ultramarine blue, and sap green

Brushes: round 4 & 10 - Princeton brand.

So pretty! Can’t wait to try

Oh I badly wanted stone walls. My Holy Grail is the Lascaux'Madeleine Caves, and rough stone texture is a key building block. Thanks Kristin!! —Also, can use all my granulating Brown and Black Earths lol.

What pencil/eraser do you use? My kneaded eraser probably wouldn't smooth it out and I gave up using my white eraser because it seemed to make a bigger mess on pencil lines despite cleaning it regularly. Maybe it's just too old. The small erasers in your pencil probably get used up before they get too old or dirty.

Laura

Love the tip to clean up the edges if you get bleeding under your tape!

I can't believe that I liked painting rocks! 🙂 💕

Oh this is something I have really wanted to do. Love it

I struggle with my card. Can’t get it right. First time that I encountered this!

This looks so fun! Will try it tonight!

I have the two smaller Tombow erasers and love them but I buy my stick erasers at Walmart and have used them for years!

Granulating? Got to try that. Thanks!

What a mess this is...I almost scratched through my paper trying to get the stones appear. I think my paper was still too wet.

Marianne A

Me too, until I tried a fourth time. I think it needs to be wet so that you can. Lightly pull the pigment down. Tough one to do.

Susan C Terris

I thought this one looked easy! Not! My paper dried so fast, I did pull up the paper trying to scratch out stones. Ah, well, my sky looks nice. This will take more practice.

Mindy Savage

This one is very difficult 😞 so many tries to get it right!

Wholey Smokes…I showed my #14 to my hubby and he was perplexed and said … are you painting cattle? Then instantly I could see the lovely face of a cow then to it’s left a sheep. When I said it’s a rock wall the answer was ‘ohhhhh okay’. Anyway it was so funny so I tried to water the cattle out, dried it and redid it to make rocks. Not too pleased with the outcome but at least the cattle are maybe for a future painting. This is so Lots of fun…I love it.

This has been the most challenging one so far. Will try a fourth time today and then move on.

Can’t seem to get the card to gently lift the color. Maybe third time is a charm?

Instead of the paint scooping off, my paper fibers are scraping off. What am I doing wrong? Too wet? Help!

Carole-Anne Tremblay

Mine was a catastrophe. I will try it again but with more water from the beginning because it scratched and peel the paper for every stone on my first attempt :(

Milena Szczepanik

Can't do that 😆 6th time Can't scrap that stones
