Desert landscape for #30! I love the desert, and the reference photo used today is from monument valley. Instead of sketching, we're going to use dry brush strokes to create the out line and rough silhouette. Most of this piece is slow and deliberate, so take your time with adding the shadows, line by line with the dry brush texture. I can't wait to see how you do with this one! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Paper: arches 140 lb cotton 9X12" paper that I've cut into 3X3" pieces, giving me 12 pieces per page.

Paint: For this project I am using a split primary palette- cad yellow deep, lemon yellow, cad red, perm. rose, ultramarine blue, cerulean, indigo and sap green. The colors I'm using today are - cad yellow, cad red, ultramarine blue, permanent rose, cerulean and sap green.

Brushes: round 4 & 10 Princeton brand.

Oooooh beautiful. I was up there for the solar eclipse in 2023. Absolutely amazing experience.

Lovely. I like the shadow on the back cliff. Can't believe we're at 30 already!

Why am I having such a hard time with this!,,

Loved the loose watercolor on your stories today from Dean’s Village. I would love to see a tutorial on Patreon! Looks like a fabulous time 🙂💕

I have a question, Kristin. I can see that you kept the cone light as a contrast to the shadows around it. If I wanted to add more of a bright reddish color to the cone to match the photo, then how would I change my shadow colors to highlight the red rocks?

Joalie

Me too, need a redo for sure.

I've done this one twice. 2nd time is improved. I struggle with making the tiny lines on the cone! I've overshadowed it again.
