See you soon - 10 AM AZ time - also Pacific time

For today’s live class we are doing an intro into this month’s technique: negative painting

What you’ll need: watercolor paints, paper and brushes. In this class I’ll go over the basic techniques and how to see negative painting. I'll show you how to do it in the most basic way and how we actually use it in different watercolor paintings.

If you can’t make the live class, don’t worry! All live classes are recorded and available to watch back any time.

Can’t wait to paint with you! Let me know if you have any questions.

Ok, so if anyone can help me out. How do I find the live class on you tube? I can never see it there.

Hi Kristin sorry if this question sounds off-topic but is there a correct side of Arches 300gsm cold pressed and a not so correct side? Just curious bc one side seems different in texture than the other.

Laura

wow, can you share where you got the book to put the tiny paintings?

Laura

thanks so much!

Thanks for another great technique class! I want to touch real quick on the idea of going our own way with the tiny paintings. I know this is something you encourage us to do. When I first started, that was really hard for me to not follow the instructions exactly. I’m getting better at that. 😂 To the point where now I’m starting to wonder, what should the point of the tiny paintings be? Is it to create the final image and have a result that I’m in love with, and IMO really catches the spirit of your painting and/or the reference photos? Or is the point to practice that month’s technique? Because I’m finding that sometimes I’m much happier when I achieve my result in a different way. Like tiny #38… I like my dry brush version *so much better* than the lifting version… but I know the point of doing the painting in the first place was to practice lifting… so… 🤷🏻‍♀️ What are your thoughts on this?

That was so informative! Thank you! I am excited for the next month. I am slightly behind...ok, a lot behind. My plan after this is to try and stay current on the month and move backward as I can! How do you mix the lighter pink and purple that you painted green around? Is it cad yellow and red for pink and blue and red for purple? You are very good at mixing!

Joanne Blanton

I am so glad you asked! I wanted to know exactly the same thing!

Negative painting is a lot of work for me! I have to struggle to “see it” all the time! I have to get confused midway and go back-and-forth between positive shapes and negative painting🫣
