Hi everyone! I can't believe June is almost over and after this Tuesday, we will have completed 52 paintings this year. Negative painting month has been so fun (for me at least lol) and I hope you found some things about it that you fell in love with. Below is the schedule and topic theme for the month of July. As a reminder, this year the 100 tiny paintings will revolve around a new technique each month, keeping the same Tuesday/Friday schedule so that we end up with 8-9 paintings per month and 100 by the end of the year.

The theme for July: Splatter techniques

Wednesday July 1st: live class 3 PM Arizona time

The link to this class will be posted here on patreon Wednesday morning, the day of the live class, and will be recorded and saved for anyone who can't make it.

This live class will deep dive and cover the basics of this month's technique: splatter painting. The how, when and why. We'll talk about different splatter methods, how to avoid problems, and how to fix common mistakes. We'll also cover exercises you can practice in your sketchbook and "homework" to help you improve this technique in stress free ways before you start on a painting.

Tuesday/Friday tiny paintings: Each Tuesday and Friday this month a tiny painting will be posted. The tiny painting videos include full video instructions, color mixing and reference photos and sketch outlines when applicable.

End of month live class: Wednesday July 29th @ 10 AM Arizona time

At the end of the month we will paint a picture together from a reference photo. This class is also recorded and saved so you can watch back at any time. We will be voting on and choosing together a picture that uses a lot of the negative techniques we have gone over this past month. This will help us solidify what we've learned into something bigger as we walk through how to paint a piece from start to finish, live.

I can't wait to paint with you this month!

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Kristin

Kristin How do I go back to earlier paintings with simple designs? I am pretty intimidated by this!

I predicted splash of magenta in our future 🪩

You can look at the 2025 paintings in the collections on Kristin's page. They vary throughout the year. Pick ones you think you would be comfortable with.

Just come and follow the steps. On a Whole it looks intimidating; but, when broken up into steps, as others can tell you, it really is doable. We are here to learn and the best way to learn is to jump in and learn by doing. Are you going to love everything you paint…. Probably not! Will you learn every time you paint… HECK YES! So…. Jump… Kristin will catch you

Tere, some of the paintings we are doing are challenging, but like Bear said you really are learning a lot even if you don’t like what you ended up doing. On the other hand I found starting with flowers was easier because they’re very forgiving. To get to all of the videos that Kristin has posted, tap on her name which will take you to her main page. When there, select Collections. You’ll find many different types of subjects that you can try. Numbers 17, 18, 20, 21, 24,31, 36,37 and 39 from last years collection might be somewhat easier and confidence-building for you.

Hey Pam, it’s your happy place!

Katherine

Yes! Hopefully I will be able to stop wearing my splatters and actually get them on the paper 😅

Well I definitely learned to like negative painting this month. Demystified it a bit for me. Can’t wait for spatter month because I think that’s my favorite!

I was so intimidated at the beginning of the year, I nearly gave up completely, did some really dreadful looking things, but kind of forced myself to keep going. I am so surprised by how much better I'm getting. Am I as good as so many of the people who post here - NO, but I decided to just keep going. I did downsize my membership, because I could not cope with all the wonderful things available, and so now I keep up as best I can and am actually loving it. I haven't been posting most of my paintings because I find posting them ends up with me comparing myself with others, and I paint for my mental health and then get very down if I judge myself by not enough people liking my stuff. All my own self imposed problems, so I just carry on and enjoy. Good luck.

Thanks so much for these suggestions. I know they are not to me, but I'm struggling quite a lot with the current ones. I am at least keeping up, through determination and just not really often posting my end results, but I can see improvement. I am going to try some of the painting you linked. I did some last year, but joined so late that I consistently struggled to keep up and that left me feeling fedup. I am a bit OCD, so felt I should do them in order ha ha. Now I'm just going to do some of the randoms you mentioned.
