Would love to be the person who monitors google searches coming in on Monday morning and trying to figure out the spike in ‘ducks hugging’ 🌹😄 [spoilers] I, too, immediately thought the force cube was Cyra, but I didn’t think it was a ‘protect’ thing I thought that maybe she didn’t trust Calliope to not try to take the unified crown for herself so decided to do the thing herself like she’d planned. Felt immediately bad for thinking the worse of her 😬😳😞

Don’t think I’ve typed ‘unified crown’ since first year uni (History & Theology, in this case it was history and the Union of Crowns in 1603 when James VI became James VI & I, he was the one who was interested/worried about witchcraft leading to witch-hunting in Scotland in various fits and starts for 130 years ish and in total around 4000 deaths 🤦‍♀️🙄😬- just a cheery free fact for anyone who fancies 🤓😳🙈😂)

the fact that triss 1 died at the hands (paws?) of the bear prince when in C1 the OG trisses were under the bear prince’s domain… triss 1’s fate was foretold from the start 😳 somehow some way her death launched her essence back in time and reconstituted as a dryad so she’s triss 1 of all the trisses lol

Also, I just need to say that C3 has been amazing. Out of all of their campaigns, this one, to me, has felt like the most pure DND played by them. As a DM, I cannot begin to express the number of times I've began a session with an idea of how things will go, only to have my players completely flip the script and find creative ways out of my rail roading haha. The number of times Duck Team has found these creative ways out of sticky situations (callback to If I Were You) absolutely screams "friends playing at the table". Just pure fun and enjoyment. Fuck I love this show

idk if y'all are gonna see this but i really have to say, a long time ago i wrote you all a letter and sent you a book by k.s. villoso and made a joke that was barely a joke about jumping a tier level if you supported her patreon and then i wrote another letter to correct the first letter and clarified that it was a joke because i was embarrased about it and *then* i realized you guys thought i was seriously and *had* supported her patreon and when i said it was a joke you cancelled the support and i think out of embarrassment she shut down her patreon because it took her back to just me as her only backer and I just I've carried this guilt and embarrassment for a long time and I'm so deeply deelpy sorry to everyone involved. You literally might not know what I'm talking about but I'm so sorry if you felt tricked into supporting her and i feel terrible for kind of inadvertently causing her to shut down her patreon and idk why i haven't sent this before now but i'm so so so sorry.

I just rebuilt my PCs (monk and Paladin) with the 2024 rules this week, and it was a trip this combat won in large part thanks to things that got taken away in the new rules

Perfect episode, but for everyone who think they could do the same at their table: to teleport out force cage creatures need to pass a charisma save. Not a comment on the episode, again, but just fyi for the players listening

i’ve been thinking about this too!! especially because it keeps happening in this campaign - with calder in the helm, killing the king, the toybox whomp - the players keep going different directions than murph expects and it’s so thematically perfect

Idk if this makes sense but I especially love when Caldwell has an epic combat or heartwrenching roleplay moment because he does love playing goofy guys. It feels so good to see Sol get to be awesome (which he is all the time but love to see it in an intimidating, badass way)

Forcecage is SO wild - about a month after this ep, i had to figure out how to escape one as well with a dimensional shackle on, too, and it is really a daunting situation when you have no innate teleportation methods. i love coming back to this ep post that situation and seeing how yall handled it 💗

I think this episode was a prime example of how theater of the mind combat can be a double edged sword. It made for an anwsome high stakes combat but I would argue that the chain lightning spell had no right to hit all three of them the turn it did. It was narrated Cali went 30 feet one direction, Calder went 30 feet a different direction, and Sol went 50 feet the same direction as Calder. Chain lightning has a jump range of 30 feet so I think it would have much more clear on a battle map that they were not all within 30 feet. Also I'm a little confused on the fireball damage numbers. How did Sol take 40 damage on a single half damage fire ball but on 6 with multiple fails Cali and Calder average about 107 damage each? Something smells a little fishy with Ryan's math.

Works both ways tho, Cali would have technically been out of range to cast command when she did if they nitpicked every little thing like that. At the end of the day it is a story driven podcast more focused on narrative than the minutia of dnd rules.
