Ad-Free Ep for $5+ Patrons!

The Book Buds sink their teeth into another juicy entry in R.L. Stein's "Give Yourself Goosebumps" series! To mix things up, the gang also invites dog-owner and spooky-movie-enjoyer Jake Hurwitz along for the ride (it only goes okay though, so don't expect to see him again anytime soon).

Grampy

Another banger from the Book Buds

Extra Crispy

It’s so cool to see you guys bringing new blood to the podcast I think I remember Jake from some old college humor videos he’s the “Mickey my friend” guy right? I don’t know what he’s done since then but it’s super nice of you to throw him a bone and bring him on to the show. Obviously great episode, not totally sure the guest carried his weight but that’s to be expected with someone so new to the space; I just hope he had fun!

Positive Nerdery

Glad Jake is a Dog Guy, has he ever tried to be a Cake Guy instead?

Mushy

My nickname is gabe and I feel like I’m being yelled at lol.

Declane Gilhooley

Right at the start of my shift!!!!, brb 😀 flip flip

Hyena

My favorite bit is making the characters way older than they should be LOL

Summer Rose (Grantaire)

I know no one asked, but the no "no" thing for dogs is valid! It seems silly, but it's a total knee-jerk reaction to go "no!" when dogs do something you don't want them to do and that's not always an appropriate or constructive response from a training perspective. Therefore, using a word that isn't something you'd impulsively say as a way to say "no" to your dog is a lot better! That way they'll only hear it when you're actively trying to communicate that response to them. I used to be a trainer and my go-to was "nuh-uh", but anything works as long as you're consistent! I have extended this command to my cats and it works with them as well (in that they understand what i'm saying, not that they actually listen or care lol)

Summer Rose (Grantaire)

So true! I think I remember seeing him in Murph's classic birthday bit with Amir Blumenfeld! A deep cut, but it really payed off to bring in such a lesser known comedian for this episode. Naddpod sure knows how to pick their guests! Happy belated Murphday, Murph!

Justin Cockrell

Did anyone else start seeing the Dingo chapter up front as an excellent, long Jake and Amir skit?

DMCDawg

I Can’t tell you why, but I found “You can’t spell Jeremy Iron’s Car without ‘Scar’” to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.

Ben Delahay

My cat was named Tiki after Tiki Barber from the New York Giants :)

Madison F

Yes! I’m a vet who specializes in behavior and clients look at me so skeptically when I first discuss this.

Tony Zampieri

Is it just me or does anyone else find these episodes hard to follow when they keep changing the names around? There are some funny bits, but I can’t seem to keep up when they switch names several times.

Blaize Gordon

Damn, too bad I'm gonna miss the Livestream because I'll be web slinging around on the 20th 😭😭🤣🤣

Maia Selkirk

Regarding microcircuses, you've already missed the trend - i was once part of a circus troupe and we performed in SHIPPING containers at festivals. It was not an enjoyable experience for anyone

Lyza

Agreed! A lot of the old traditional ways of training dogs (negative reinforcement, punishment, harsh correctiveness, dominance theory) have been proven to be not only highly ineffective but even oftentimes outright harmful. I was distraught to learn I’d been doing it totally wrong for the first part of my life, but I’d much rather be humble and learn to do it right! It’s good to be open-minded and learn from the scientific process and all of the very cool and interesting dog behavior studies out there :) We’re still finding out new things about canine psychology every day!

NY was so fun, everyone looked so spiffy and I was really digging the the sparkly blazer and golden shoes
