the title comes from the movie eternal sunshine of the spotless mind where the characters erase each other from their minds after they break up so when she says he's her eternal sunshine she means she wants to forget him

imperfect for you is the only song on the album which sound that i have never heard from ariana before and i lovedddd it, it's my favorite song on the album and now i need her to do more folk songs badly.

ariana said she wasn’t going to release another album after positions (2020) until 2027 but because of the writers strike she had time to go into the studio and she said that she initially made this album with no intention of it being heard. i felt like in a way though this album was like a little love letter for her fans because all the songs feel like a combination of her other albums. i also feel like the general public was fooled they thought were going to get all this tea from the album about spongebob and everything meanwhile this was about her healing from her divorce which i love that she had a chance to speak out her feelings. this has to be my 2nd favorite ariana album of all time but it might be taking the top spot even though i love positions so much.

I feel like in Don't Wanna Break Up again, the title is not necessarily saying her and her husband broke up alot, I think she may just be saying breaking up sucks, and she doesn't want to go through that experience again. Also a situation-ship can pretty much explain any type of relationship that isn't actually a relationship (like with sides or friends with benefits, like not official, but its something). In this song, I feel like by this point she's calling her marriage a situation-ship because it doesn't feel like a marriage anymore, it's just some sort of relationship-like situation she's in (like they're going through the motions).

one of the clauses in her divorce was that neither party could speak on the marriage going forward, hence the use of "situationship" instead of marriage. Also, she was the principal writer on all the songs so I think it was genius to make a concept album. in a sense, she saying all she wants to say while also having the protection of the album being based on a movie she likes (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). we learn a lot about what went down in that, meanwhile, she doesn't say much about her relationship with Ethan which is what most people want. I respect that she's telling the story she wants and not caving to the pressure of telling what people want to hear.

yes! her vocals were influenced by glinda. she talked about how she had to deconstruct how she used to sing for glinda. she was at vocal lessons 7 days a week for this. also this album was recorded during wicked filming.

We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love) feels like it’s the sadder sister song to Yes, And…? It’s about how she knew the media and the public wouldn’t take time to try to understand her or what she’s going through. She’s just an image they created, not a real person to them. So she’s trying to just wait out the storm until the hate passes and she’s in the good graces of the public eye again

for the distressed part of imperfect for you distressed is synonymous with stressed so she's saying she's NOT stressed with the person she's talking about lol. the way she says it in the song makes it sound like she's saying de-stressed but that's different from distress

Exactly! I’d add that on the song, it seems she’s saying he cheated on her so then she cheated on him and it became this toxic loop of mistreating each other. But also she was doing the work of trying to heal from her bad habits and past relationships and he wouldn’t
