The Androgenous comment was basically her asking "are you Queer" of which you are never supposed ask anyone. present day abraham is queer but at that time he was closeted. so asking him that whilst hes closeted on national television was just fucked!

I wouldn't have minded the androgyny question being brought up if it was just light conversation but the way she reacted to his answer was not okay. Then they continued to make a big deal about it rather than just respecting his answer. We all have things we are insecure about or that may trigger some memories/feelings like that. I'm biologically female and have always identified as such, but due to various physical characteristics about me there's often been rumors that I'm actually biologically male. I've been called a "tranny" (never okay) and been asked if I'm a guy in drag. It's hurtful. Especially as someone who, while they don't have the most "feminine" build, whatever that means and has more body hair due to hormone imbalance and PCOS just wants to feel... Feminine and beautiful. I probably would have started crying if I was him too. Especially considering that they are young/still figuring out who they are. Very disappointed in her not only as the older adult there but as someone they're supposed to learn from and look up to.

Top 3: Ali, Blake, Abraham Bottom 3: Michael, Nellie, IDK Who I’d Cut: Nikki - her asking Abraham that was NOT OKAY. They tried to justify it later by having him talking about David Bowie and androgeny, but come on... Who I'd Cut of the Kids: Nellie

Erin

I agree with you 100% on Abraham. Nikki was really being messed up there.

We need a show of just mama Bear Audrey 🤣 And while I love Blake and Michael, Blake is def the better performer and all that. Michael is still cute 😂

Benjamin Smith

Dang it’s hard to hear you continue putting Michael in your bottom 3 😂. Michael was my favorite of this season and I guess I’m constantly rooting for the underdog because last season it was Cameron for me. True Michael is not the best singer but I absolutely do not agree with the comparison between him and Blake. I didn’t think it was fair back when this first aired and especially now knowing what kind of person Blake is. I would definitely choose Michael over Blake regardless of Blake being a better performer. Nothing will ever get me to root for Blake. I didn’t like him before and hated his character on Glee.

Gigi

Loved Nellie so seeing her go sucks, also you can tell they def gave some of Nellie’s personality and traits to Marley as well.

It’s crazy watching this episode all these years later because of the Abraham situation. I was 16 when this season came out and I remember being so confused about my sexuality, and always being teased about being feminine. My present day self would proudly say I’m androgynous, but back in the closeted/confused days, absolutely not, so I appreciate your mama bear coming out because I agree, that wouldn’t fly today. I really enjoyed his solo performance. That androgynous swagger really is special. I also sympathize with Lily not being able to really characterize Cyndi. I’m a ‘95 baby and tbh I really don’t know Cyndi, Boy George, David Bowie, or Madonna. I know a few songs, but I wouldn’t be able to identify what makes them icons and portray that. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The hardest thing for me with Nellie going, is that instead of trying to play to her strengths, they constantly were like "hey let's give her the parts where she has to be overtly sexy" when that was very clearly not for her. I get wanting to pus her out of her comfort zone, but they did that in sexuality week. They never gave her the chance to shine in a way that's more authentic to her. They say it's about finding someone they want to write for, but how can they do that when they won't let her show herself for who she is? ALSO THOUGH! Nellie has made music, and I def recommend you checking out her song Lights. It's been 11 years and I still love the song.

I wish they had given Nellie P!nk for the video. I feel like she could've embodied that type of sexiness better. That said, she could've KILLED that Melissa Etheridge song but it felt like she pulled back the whole time. Cyndi Lauper IS iconic and she DOES have a very distinct style in the way she performs. Were they not able to look on the internet to get a better idea of who they'd be portraying? I think Nikki knew that it was wrong to push on "androgynous" because she acknowledged it to the guy at the soundboard right after Abraham left but then went right back into justifying it.

Benjamin Smith

But that’s the whole point of this competition though. We saw it with Cameron last season with him not willing to sacrifice his beliefs and having difficulty with sexuality and kissing someone he’s not dating. Playing just to someone’s strengths is not how tv shows/movies work, they have to be able to adapt and do things that make them uncomfortable. I like Nellie but it was week after week that she failed to push past her insecurities and pop on screen. It wasn’t just with sexuality. In my opinion she just wasn’t giving them anything to write for and that I think is the issue. It was clear her just singing in front of them in the last chance performances was who she is but the issue is when it comes time to play a character she lacks the confidence to do that.

My favorite this week is probably Aylin. My top 3 would be Aylin, Allie, and Blake. (Imagine is Charlie was still here. He would kill this assignment ☹️) My bottom 3 would be Nellie, Lily, and Shanna. I would cut Nellie as well. Which sucks because she is definitely my overall favorite, especially her voice. But where is that confidence that she had in sexy week? I agree with other comments that she should’ve gotten Pink instead. She would’ve embodied her a lot better. I feel like all of the other contestants got someone who fit their personality but Nellie was given someone as an after thought. Or I’m being biased and it was done to get her out of her head. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But my point still stands. I agree with what the judges said about lily and she is kind of growing on me too. I picked Shanna over Micheal because he at least stood out to me in the MV a little more. Still one of my least favorites though and he just made the cut for this week. I completely agree with you that Nikki’s reaction to Abraham’s answer was where that conversation went wrong. He answered the question! A pretty private question at that. 🙄 Overall, I really like the concept for this weeks MV. One of my favorites so far.

Heather

Haven’t watched it yet, but I had to comment and ask right away who Blane is, because I can’t for the life of me figure out who Audrey means. Edit. I’m being dumb. Obviously it was he who shall not be named. It was almost exactly it, and I’m an idiot.

Turnip Crazy

I would have loved to see Michael play a nerdy character on Glee. When I first watched the show Michael, Blake and Aylin were my favorites. When I see everyone saying they don't like Michael or that he fades into the background makes me sad

Jay Johnston

So I have my own thoughts on the androgynous comment which is that I agree with you on the reaction Nikki had wasn't awesome but as a trans and queer person I don't see the problem with her asking. It wasn't her asking about his gender or sexuality but his presentation. Not all queer people are androgynous and not everyone who is androgynous is queer. Androgyny is a presentation not attached to sexuality or gender. As for the research bit I agree, I wish the mentors gave the contestants bits about the people they were portraying. I say give them bits because the contestants didn't actually have Internet access or even access to phones while filming so they couldn't do it themselves

Stone27

Imo, Cyndi Lauper was P!nk in her era and in my era, we have P!nk. If that makes sense.

Ellie

Finally something I completely agree with! I get why she asked. They are trying to pin him down as what could be written about and this was a reasonable question. I too am Trans and queer and I think it would have been interesting to have an androgynous character on glee, but he panicked hard. Which I get because your young and scared and I didn't love Nikkis reaction, but it was definitely overblown
