I know everyone loves Bokuto, but hear me out.... a huge part of being a great athlete is getting a handle on the mental side of things. Bokuto is physically gifted for sure, but he is very mentally weak, which is why I don't think he should be put on the same level as some others. I'm not saying he won't get there, but right now it's definitely a huge weakness.

Hey guys great reaction and love all your videos. As to the video synopsis, BBBLLAASSSHPPPEMMYYYY!!!!

Sorry Sarah. The people have spoken and all we want is more Bokuto😂

The thing about Bokuto is a bit weird because his weakness is a bit exaggerated and even exists in part for the sake of comedy so I can't really take it seriously. I think that's the reason a lot of people don't mind it. But yeah, the thing about him being an emotional player is still true. It's such a shame because that's going to be adressed in the future in the manga and if we're really just getting 2 movies for the anime then his development as a player is probably going to be skipped. Btw, Yaku saying that she's ''super hot'' is not entirely accurate to what he says in Japanese. Something more accurate in tone to what he's saying would be something like: ''she looks like a model'' or ''she's such a beauty''' so Lev saying: ''right?'' is not really weird.

I do agree that mental strength is important and the Bokuto has a weakness with his mood swings, but I'd say it's not to the point where I'd call it a "huge" one or that he's "really weak" mentally. I wouldn't want to deal with it myself, but I don't think it goes quite that far. For one, I think the amount by which his play deteriorates is not as much as it might seem from the emphasis placed on those moments. It's exaggerated a bit for comedy, but I'd guess that when he's in one of those downward swings he's still at about 80 percent of his ability. And when he's in an upward swing, he's capable of 120 percent, which is enough to surpass some of the other top aces. That dichotomy is present, and just because he has the down swings doesn't mean we can ignore the up swings. Again, I would not want to deal with that, so I'm in agreement there, but discounting it entirely isn't fair. Secondly, (and Adam, stop reading if you're here because I think this is season 4 stuff), the real difficulty with it is more that it's kinda unpredictable. Akaashi states plainly that Bokuto actually often stays fired up when the rest of the team are the ones getting down, and he's able to get back up with just as small of a push as whatever brought him down. So it becomes a matter of team dynamic - if you feel that you can bring him back in the moments when he's down, then you might value the times where he's able to bring you up when the rest of the team are down.

True Bokuto is almost like a flag character to remind me that I’m watching an anime and not evaluating a player for the pros

Milen Varbanov

Agreed. As for your last paragraph, I think Akaashi said that about Bokuto in season 2 but Adam and Sarah talked over it 😄 (I went and found the episode, it was in s2 e11. And it's not that Adam and Sarah talked over it, they just didn't say anything about it)

Wsgyan

The explanation land vs air is more because nekoma are cats and fukurodani are owls that’s why also they said in s2 that fukurodani isn’t a worse team without boulot like yes he’s the heart of their offense but they’re still a championship caliber team without him

MasterPpv

P.S. While I mainly like Bokuto and don't love him, I do think there's one aspect where he's amazing: he's amazingly entertaining 🤣😂

okay, first thing - i think yaku just calls lev's sister something along the lines of pretty or beautiful in japanese and lev agrees. the english subtitles here defintely made it sound a lot weirder than it actually was, lol. but here's a fun fact! in the english dub they made lev say "it runs in the family", which is just such a lev thing to say haha. okay, now about bokuto! in season 2, after the karasuno vs fukurodani practice match, akaashi explains to tsukishima that although bokuto self-destructs at the most random times he is never intimidated when they have to play against strong opponents, is usually in high spirits when the rest of the team is down, and is generally reliable. they did make him captain after all! the show tends to only focus on fukurodani when he does have a random tantrum, probably for the sake of comedy, but as we see it's never to the point of him actually throwing a match over something stupid. for people who have only seen the anime, their love for bokuto is usually because of how instrumental he has been for hinata's and tsukishima's development. however, most of the fandom's love for bokuto and akaashi stems from manga material that we are currently unsure is ever getting animated 😭

Adam's "smile" along with that edit are gonna be living rent free in my head all weekend for sure

I think the title here also refers to Fukurodani’s symbol — Owl, that’s why they are the “air” I think the main reason people like Bokuto is because of his goofiness. We know that he’s got quite some work to do when it comes to emotion managing, but he is still a high schooler like everybody else. And people love it when he creates chaos and Akaashi need to babysit him. It’s all about the bromance between these two you know 😏

grasshorse

100% this, all the bokuto tantrums strike me as so anime-typical that im really not thinking about how it would be to play with someone who actually behaved like that, im just thinking oh my god akaashi's suffering face is hilarious 😂

AustinMyB

I would agree somewhat Sarah but Bokuto is a kid still like you said. And streaky players like him have become some of the best in their field regardless. Like Kobe and Wade. its mostly played up for comedy. As stated in the show hes a top 5 ace in the whole country. But the series wants him to be a funny character so the melt downs are heavily featured. However if you look at it that way he does all this amazing talented stuff in his high school volleyball with that handicap. At the top of competition I agree hes gotta get better for sure but I think he deserves some praise at his age. Personally idc about his skills tho I like him as a mentor to hinata mostly :)

Mico

In order to get Sarah to like Bokuto, he must first wear glasses.

Ashley hui

Finally someone acknowledging Akashi 😂 dude is manipulating Bokuto (in a good way) like a chess player

AnNaNN

Really recommend the manga of this two matches, the anime cut out so many things

Travis

Lol its cuz it's anime and most fans aren't atlethes to that level. And as anime fans we love his quirkiness and comedic relief Buuuut your assessment is correct lol 😂

detmetrius demarcus bartolomew james III jr

Bokuto's breakdowns are overexaggerated for comedy and we're only shown his bad moments not his best. but his weak mental state is like 70% of his production while when hes locked in like akashi said "we dont need to worry" hes above and beyond likely 120% more productive. hes like tendo for blocking. hes no tsukki where he'll be the avg in between.

Marcos C.

Bokuto wears his heart on his sleeve and while yes he is super hard on himself it’s never to the detriment of the team. He is NEVER the reason they lose or struggle. I have said this before but he is instrumental to Hinata and Tsuki’s growth. He’s one of the top 5 spikers in the country for a reason and you can tell how deadly serious he is about volleyball in all of his interactions with players and people off and on the court. There is a ton of his character that’s not shown in the anime for comedic purposes but he’s not weak mentally he’s just passionate and 16/17 years old boy lol.

MelanieRS

Although Sarah is 100% right about her assessment of the Land vs Air title, I actually think it's way simpler than that. Nekoma are cats who walk around on the ground, Fukurodani are Owls in the sky. Cats vs Owls = Land vs Air.

riddle

dont worry, lev wasn't being a weirdo LOL. yaku actually just said that lev's sister is really beautiful :) he called her a bijin which is a beautiful person (ikemen is a handsome guy). tanjiro also called nezuko a bijin when yushiro (the demon who loves lady tamayo) first meets them and tanjiro gets offended because he thinks he insulted nezuko's appearance. subtitles are localized so translations aren't ever going to be exact. you can usually assume that theres a different meaning when something sounds odd. jokes and puns often get changed around too if the literal translation doesnt make sense in english or if it's something that people would only understand if theyre familiar with japanese customs, folktales, etc. fukunaga on nekoma's team is constantly making jokes and puns and i think theyre really cute and funny but they dont always translate well in english 😭

Julia

I agree with a lot of the comments. I've read the manga and honestly I wouldn't say Bokuto is very mentally weak. His dramatic moments are exaggerated for comedy for sure and it makes him a very interesting character to the audience. But he's literally the captain of Fukurodani and one of the top 5 aces in the whole country. He's definitely reliable (though we don't see it on screen that much)

questta

Missed Adam's Reaction to cute kitties and owls of the commercial break! 😭

questta

Potential spoiler: Or get THE match animated! (Wink, wink)

Mico

I hope so!

Matheus Maia

The reason i like bokuto so much, is because he is funny and somehow relatable, he has his flaws but he is good, also more realistic like a teenager player

suckishima (kim)

I think it's intended to be both, so you're both right! Furudate made Nekoma be cats /because/ their floor defense is a lot like how cats prowl the ground! And Fukurodani as owls, as well as Karasuno as crows, are both teams that value their midair battles more, like birds.

suckishima (kim)

It was nice to see both of you give props to Akaashi! I always liked that little interaction between him and Kenma at the net about Bokuto's line shots being on point, and it was cool to see Adam pick up on it too! This is the first official match of the series we've seen where they players really /know/ the players on the other side—more than just their reputations, these guys are friends and have not just practiced together but learned from each other. It makes for a really fun dynamic on court, and I like the glimpse we get of that relationship in that Kenma & Akaashi bit—plus it's always really cool to see how Kenma in particular takes all the information he has to try and get into Bokuto's head.

bungi

bokuto is very dear to me as an anime character, i love him. but as a IRL team mate???? idk man... i know for sure i wouldn't wanna be his akaashi 🤣🤣🤣

Zoe Yang

What’s so interesting is that in the Manga, it was stated that Akaashi saw Bokuto play in middle school and that’s why he joined the volleyball team! Their friendship is just so amazing and the bond between them are just spectacular!
