The way my heart sunk when Yuri was in the tank... I was so worried this would happen when he took a massive lead after the short program!

I am impressed with Victor though... the way he can observe Yuri, make adaptations, and challenge him. I'm a fan.

I was WAITING for this one!!! On my first watch i had the same reaction as Sarah as to why doesn't this man just follow the program. Seeing it now i agree with Adam more cos from my understanding, this is the reason why Victor chose to coach Yuuri in the first place! Cos he surprised him. And Yuuri knew that and even though he didn't land the flip, he knows that with practice and Victor by his side, he'll nail it in nationals. He has that confidence now. Also, HOW CUTE IS VICTUURI? (that's their ship name)

Adam: Yuri and Victor need to get closer... Took seconds, lol. I think Victor is more understanding of Yuri taking liberties with his program because it sounds like he did the same. Yakov did say Victor never listened to him. Came back to add this as well: It occurs to me also that Victor's and Yuri's relationship goes both ways. It's not only Yuri that's learning something from Victor, Victor is also learning something from Yuri, in a way. I think they probably feel, unconsciously, much more like equals than in a typical coach-athlete relationship

Oh man! I remember when this episode first aired, I screamed so loud at the smooch that my roommate at the time ran into my room because he thought I had gotten hurt 😭🤣

Franina

Crossing my fingers and hoping that you guys will react to blue lock soon!!! It’s not your typical sports anime

Sarah

As Adam said, it's important to Victor to be surprised, so I can see now why Yuri made the choice he did. It definitely would not be in my personality to improvise like that though!

Sarah

I'm obsessed with these two 😍 My reaction was solely based on who I am (rule-follower, low-risk, etc.) but it totally makes sense why Yuri made the choice he did.

Sarah

😂 😂 the shock I felt at that moment.... and then the happiness 😊

Sarah

People have been telling us that Ao Ashi is better than Blue Lock. Thoughts??

Franina

Ao ashi is your typical sports anime that focuses on teamwork and character development with a team. Your realistic sports kind of anime. But blue lock is about becoming the number one best player and devouring other people to get to the top. It’s more about individual style of play and competition. Since you are very competitive i figured you will find it very interesting. And I know Adam would love picking apart the types of players in blue lock. In short if you want your average normal sports anime with a team dynamic pick Ao ashi. If you want an egocentric and aggressive style player where it’s only about getting yourself to the top then I would say blue lock.

It’s not unusual for a skater to push their elements at this stage. Remember that it is still early in the season. Yuri would do well to listen to Victor, but this is also exactly the right time to experiment a little with the program. He’s right to push himself, see what he can do in a competition setting, and then refine it as he gets closer the world finals. lol, I remember in ballet we would occasionally have skaters join the causal class (basically a guided practice in studio) for about a month early in their season. I was so fun to teach them how to show different emotions through hand, neck, and chin positions.

CatCN

Oh, I understand! As I was watching it I thought to myself 'Sarah is not going to like that' lol. That your reactions are honest and true to who you are is one of the reasons we follow your channel ^_^

I'm also super looking forward to your reaction to "The Ace of Diamond ”. This is an outstanding work that, in my mind, is on par with Haikyu!!

Sarah

that's high praise!!

Sarah

That's so cool you did ballet!! 🩰 I was so stressed seeing Yuri just do his own thing. I thought he would mess up his chances for sure!

Lemon

But this work is definitely worth it. The author spent a full seventeen years shaping it, but the most remarkable thing is that the central theme of the story has always been clear and the author's ideas have been consistent throughout. It's really rare nowadays to have a story that lasts for as long as seventeen years and still lands smoothly.

it depends on the person! they are both soccer animes, but ao ashi definitely appeals more to the teamwork and emotional aspect that comes with playing sports. it is a little similar to haikyuu in that respect, and is your typical shonen anime. blue lock goes pretty much against that norm. i won't explain too much to avoid spoilers, but it's pretty intense for a sports anime, with cool animation and lots and LOTS of hype moments. i will say though, the animation for blue lock took a pretty big dip in season 2.

olivia

sarah, haikyuu was my first anime i watched, so it's one of my favorites. if i thought i cried a lot during haikyuu, then it's nothing compared to the BUCKETS i made during diamond no ace. it's a longer sports anime, i won't lie, with lots of slowburn moments, but i promise the build up is worth it for the absolute peak moments the anime has. the character building, and the main character development is so worth the long seasons. i found it so easy to get attached to the characters, just like haikyuu, and it is dead realistic when it comes to sports competition. i highly, HIGHLY reccomend!!!

Saren

Ao ashi is definitely better from a sports/coaching perspective! I feel like you guys would have a lot of great commentary about it. Blue lock is good too but much less realistic. Like soccer as a shounen/action anime.
