Magic Item: Blackmaw's Blight Skull (Patreon)

Wondrous Item, very rare, requires attunement

“The beast is dead, yet the skull still breathes. Sapphire for the sea, ruby for the blood it spilled. Poison dripping from its fangs to remind you that some victories never stop biting back.”

Blackmaw’s Blight-Skull is the elongated skull of a monstrous sea-dwelling creature. Fashioned as an accessory, it can be fitted on as a shoulderpad, worn through the arm like a bracer, or otherwise used as a quiver. Regardless of how it is worn, the dangerous toxins it exudes can be used to envenom weapons, and the skull occasionally coughs out smoke clouds of dangerous miasma: a boon for the risk-loving adventurer!

Suspected to be a fightfish that was horribly mutated by Change fields, Blackmaw terrorized the waters around Mawrhas until a legendary hunter claimed its life in a battle over the seas. Retaining the skull as a trophy, the hunter had two gemstones lodged in its eye sockets: a bright sapphire and a fiery ruby, the illustrious symbols of his clan. For some reason, Blackmaw’s Blight-Skull constantly drips with deadly poison, even to this day.
