By way of a tribute to the great Wayne Kramer who died earlier this year, I thought I'd examine Looking at You by the MC5, which contains some of Kramer's finest soloing. We have not one but three awesome solos, and I also take you through how to play the main riff.

Everything's tabbed out below. As I say in the video, rather than learning these solos note for note, you might prefer just to steal a few licks, then do things your own way.

The backing track is just the main riff repeated, and I've extended it to a couple of minutes. Use it to practise the solos or to improvise some ideas of your own - E minor pentatonic/blues/natural minor/dorian will all work great. Have fun.

Hope you enjoy it!

Another great one Adrian and was pleasantly surprised to see you get into Wayne Kramer a bit. He toured a version of MC5 two years ago (he was the only original member) and I photographed his stop in San Francisco. I had a couple of local friends in the band on lead vocals and bass. Also on guitar he had Stevie Salas who made a huge impression on me. Someone well worth looking into, I was shocked by his death. I had been talking with Brad (lead vocalist) shortly before his passing about a new album in the works to be followed by another tour. Wayne's passing came as a shock. That show was one of my absolute faves of that year. Wayne and this band were on fire and I was excited about their next round. I put a quick gallery up at my website with photos from that show: https://www.tomdellinger.com/mc5-san-francisco-05-22

Any chance of a Duane Eddy track sometime soon. I think you would nail it Adrian. BTW....my wife wants to know why I just bought a Squire JazzMaster. I blamed you. Sorry!

Brother Wayne actually gave guitar lessons to people incarcerated in American prisons via the Billy Bragg charity 'Jail Guitar Doors'. Maybe you should do a Billy Bragg lesson, some of his early minimal stuff like 'new england' 'milkman of human kindness' or 'Levi stubbs', I know he's a bit schmaltzy but Billy is a very underrated guitarist. Anyway here is Brother Wayne's lesson of 'looking at you'! https://youtu.be/7Tm-mKxFaY4?si=oZQa-Y7n8gznb_IO

Thank you, Adrian! This is one of the songs that I’ve wanted to learn for some time. I noticed a couple of your You Tube followers suggested the mighty City Slang by Sonic’s Rendezvous Band as the subject for another tutorial video, which I’d love to see. Another suggestion I have is City Kids by The Pink Fairies, which was written by the great Larry Wallis (Pink Fairies, Motörhead, UFO, Stiff Records solo artist and producer). I love Larry’s fluid psych-punk soloing and I think City Kids would make for a great tutorial subject.
