Hi everybody,

In this week's video I'm taking a look at one of my favourite techniques: hybrid picking. Which just means using a pick in conjunction with one or more of your picking hand fingers. This is such a versatile technique that works well across a whole range of different styles, as the 10 examples in the video demonstrate.

Everything is tabbed out below, as usual.

Hope you enjoy it!

Speak next week,

Adrian

Hybrid Picking & why you should be doing it (with 10 musical examples)

Hybrid picking is such a useful technique, and one I use all the time. It's certainly not just a country thing, and can work well across a whole range of different styles. More stuff I am going to use. An area in which I need to review and focus on control. Thanks, Adrian.

Adrian: Thanks for the hybrid picking lesson. Not sure if this lines up perfectly but I'd love to see you present a lesson on XTC's "Love on a Farmboy's Wages". Some tricky picking going on in that tune for sure. Regards.

Hybrid curious, thanks for the lesson and demonstrating. 👍🏻

Hybrid picking opens up so many more melodic possibilities down the fretboard, and after working through these great and varied examples I’m excited to incorporate this technique into my playing.

Thank you! I'm just entering the world of hybrid picking after studying classical guitar for 4 years. Electric guitar just got a whole lot more interesting.

I'm glad I found this video because I've been wanting to learn hybrid picking, which as a fan of Billy Gibbons and David Grissom is a skill I need to learn!! I really appreciate the different styles you present in the video, even more thankful that I have access to the tabs in Gp! I now have some different ideas to start building a foundation upon. Lastly, that hybrid picking in 10th is really cool! I've never heard that term stated as "10th" before. Yes, I listened to Blackbird a gillizon times, but never knew it was in 10th. Thanks for adding to my musical knowledge!!

It s hard not to use my fingers for picking!!! This is a great challenge to use the pick and it sounds so nice! Great lesson again!

Does anyone know where the Rockabilly lick is expanded upon? He alludes to another video.
