Hi all!

I have something slightly different this week. Recently I got together with fellow YouTube guitar teacher Andy Crowley and we delved into one of my favourite musical genres: shoegaze. In this video (and in the companion video up today on Andy's channel) we discuss some of the artists, techniques and tones that make this style so unique and interesting.

It's a slightly different style of video for me - very much an off the cuff chat and jam. But I hope you find it interesting. If you'd like to see more collaborations and special guests in the future, do let me know who you'd like to see.

Tab is attached below for When The Sun Hits (Slowdive) and Only Shallow (MBV). These are just rough transcriptions of the main parts. If people are interested, I can certainly take more of an in-depth look at either of these bands in future videos.

(I will put a link to the other video here once I have it.)

Hope you enjoy, and speak next week.

Interesting video this week. Thanks Adrian.

Mick Marston

Pale Saints worth checking out – late 80s early 90s.

Andrew Hibben

What a nice treat - well done chaps!

Michael Kelly

Fun watching two people joyfully nerding out over a genre that is not usually associated with either one of those concepts!

anyonecanplayguitar

Yes, I know the name, never really listened to their music before - must fix that!

Neal Pike

Would love a full slowdive video probably my favourite shoegaze band

Brian West

Loved this video more like this please very informative and inspiring thanks 👍

David Barmore

Great collaboration! I frequent and enjoy both channels. Adrian, I vaguely recall you mentioned a Shoegaze course that you were working on in collaboration with another channel (Produce Like a Pro, maybe...?). Did this ever come to fruition? Or am I totally mistaken?

Absolutely 2nd Pale Saints. Start with The comforts of madness album. I'd be very surprised if you didn't love it.

Hi Adrian and Andy, nice collaboration Vid you both put together. It's also another timely vid for me. This vid coincides with a project I am working on with my Old Band mates from 1980. It provides some food for thought for a "Shoegazey" effects set up I'm putting together in my Boss GX-100 pedal. I really like the F# tune on G string sound. Cheers Pete

"taste" by ride would be great as a tutorial

Jeff

Just great! I'd love to see more shoegaze on your channel

Mick Marston

'Sight of You' is a good start – 'Throwing Back The Apple' from In Ribbons too

David

Excellent! Very nice.

KEITH MCMILLAN

It's a great idea having you two together, and I thought Shoegaze was only people playing with echo. I'm cearly wrong. I see Andy has your Vox guitar by the looks. He must be trustworthy then!

James Rossiter

Nice video. Which fuzz pedals you were using in it?

Fred Bloggs

It made me think that the melody might have been composed on keys, then transposed to guitar. Maybe I’m wrong though.

Fred Bloggs

Just to add another vote, I’d love more videos on shoegaze.

Cristian Arantes

Love your videos but would be nice if you could give a little description of pedal chain for beginners being able to try

anyonecanplayguitar

Thanks Cristian. Yes, generally at the end of most of my videos I do a gear/pedal rundown, but I didn't manage to do that here. In the future I might try and do a more detailed video on shoegaze pedals and tone.
