Afternoon everyone! This week it's Nice Lick number 9. It is in fact a complete jazz blues solo based on one simple phrase. In the video I also get into a bit of theory about playing over jazz blues chord changes. But you don't necessarily need to be a jazz player to get something out of this lesson. Hope you enjoy, but if jazz just ain't your thing then, fear not, I have some classic punk coming up next week!

Here's the video: https://youtu.be/n5aMX9j2S8E

The tab PDF and GP file are attached below.

Have a lovely week. Speak next Friday,

Adrian

One of my guitar goals for the year was to learn some jazz. I have procrastinated looking at the Charlie Christian style lesson but this has motivated me to dig into both! Thanks as always and have a great week

Yes, you should have a go! I'd say this lick is a nice gentle way into jazz. The CC lesson would be a good one to look at afterwards.

Can you explain the (caged)shape of the 876 on the tab. Think it’s in the four bar Eb. I don’t know the cord.

Yes, I think the part you mean is based off an Eb triad or Eb7 arpeggio with some chromatic passing tones. CAGED-wise I would see this as part of the A form or position. Think an Eb or Eb7 barre chord, 5th string root, at the 4th fret. Hope that helps.
