Here's my backing. I spent an unnecessary amount of time trying to replicate that weird drum effect you can hear in the intro. In the end I decided to use just the reverb return from a snare drum (muting the dry signal) which I then distorted a bit. I'd love to know exactly how it was done on the original.

The backing follows exactly the arrangement of the original recording. Enjoy playing along!

Do you by any chance have an easy way to send this backing track without the bass guitar on it? My bassist friend and I would like to play this song together. Otherwise I guess I'll have to try to mute the lower frequencies and hope that will sound alright. Thought I'd just ask before having an attempt at that.

Hi Hamid - possibly. It would mean go into the original backing track session and creating a new mix without bass. But I've got a feeling this one is on an old hard drive somewhere. If I can locate it I'll send a new mix over to you.

Hi. Just discovered these amazing lessons. I’ve tried downloading backing track to my iPhone. It says downloaded but it’s not in my files. Any ideas. Otherwise I’ll try on computer but that’s not as practical. Thanks

Hi Simon. Yes it can be a bit unpredictable downloading the backing on your phone. It works for me if I access Patreon using Safari rather than the app. So that might be worth a try!

Simon Thurston

It works. Thanks for your quick answer.

Lol used a Snare for the sound. In the live video clip, you can see it mounted just below the rack tom. Here's some info on it.

Synare (stupid autocorrect!)

unclesuperfly .

Have you / would you do a video on any songs by late 80s indie popsters The Sundays? Skin & Bones off first album has a Cure like guitar sound..

anyonecanplayguitar

Good info thanks Phil. Thought it was probably some kind of effected snare, but couldn't be sure.

anyonecanplayguitar

Thanks Jason. I actually came across this while I was preparing the video. It's a great read.

Yes, I do really like that first Sundays album. I've not looked at any of their songs before, but it would fit in with the kind of thing I do here. I will revisit that record this week.

I already asked about "Can't Be Sure" - I got about 2/3rds through!

Love all of the post punk lessons that you've done. Would you be interested in doing any lessons by some of the girl groups? Delta 5, Raincoats, Au Pairs, Kleenex ... also, I'm always game for more Rowland S Howard stuff - Birthday Party, These Immortal Souls, Jeremy Gluck (Burning Skulls Rise is a terrific track)

anyonecanplayguitar

Hi Ryan. Absolutely, love to look at some of the girl groups you mention. Know all the names you mention, but not deeply familiar with much of their music, any songs in particular you think would be worth looking at? And I definitely want to look at some more RSH soon - will bear your suggestions in mind - thanks!

Ryan Hanks

Thanks so much! It’s nice to follow a guitar instructor with similar tastes. We’re So Cool by Au Pairs and Mind Your Own Business by Delta 5 might be good ones

i’ve watched a few of your videos on YouTube and I have to tell you I was made up with the quality of your tutorials & choice of material. This song has always been on the back burner for me and you inspired me once again to attempt it. Thanks for your work, I personally find your stuff very exciting, can’t wait for the next one that taps into my youth. 😊👍🎸

Thanks Gary! Glad you liked this one. Really must do some more Cure soon, will try next year.
