Afternoon all. This week, a lovely, lesser known blues instrumental from the original Fleetwood Mac. Guitar played, not as you might expect by Peter Green, but by the great and underrated Danny Kirwan. Here's a link to the video -

https://youtu.be/exS4YalecB8

I really enjoyed learning this one myself. Kirwan packs a lot into one and a half minutes:  key changes, great blues licks, great phrasing, and some super interesting Django-style arpeggio lines.

I've tabbed it out below. I've included the rhythm part in a separate PDF. Backing track coming up in the next post.

Didn't know this track, really interesting licks, thanks!

A couple of a years ago I started to learn this fantastic tune and then moved on. A WEEK ago I thought I'd revisit it and try again - spooky! Thanks for somehow reading my mind!

Ralph Blair

Very much appreciate you uncovering this hidden gem for me, a little embarrassing to think I was familiar with the Pious Bird album yet forgot this one! Great to get that flavor of 20s-early 30s jazz. Coincidentally I was talking to a friend from NOLA this week about the Eddie Lang-Lonnie Johnson duets. Context was how racial segregation even extended to the record industry at that time; apparently Lang used the pseudonym "Blind Willie Dunn" for these sessions. Johnson is pretty amazing, I'm sure you're familiar with him. Thanks again!

Fantastic. Thanks so much. Really like that A7 arpeggio in Section 3 and the diminished lick.

Alun Price

You mentioned a video on vibrato, personally, I’d really appreciate it, and I’m sure others would too, it’s one of the things I’m finding very difficult to master.

Thank you, Adrian. I never investigated early Fleetwood Mac, so this is a wonderful new song discovery for me! Regarding the tabs, I can access the PDFs but what are the .gp files?

Hi Alun - yes, there seems to be quite a bit of interest in a vibrato lesson. Will try and put something together soon.

Hi Oliver - great, glad to have introduced you to this track. The gp files are Guitar Pro files. It's a music/tab editing and playback app. Can be a useful practice tool. The tab itself is exactly the same as the PDF.

Interesting stuff Ralph. Yes, I'm familiar with Lonnie Johnson somewhat, but I've never really explored his playing properly. Should really put that right at some point.

Gary Ainsworth

I’ve always wanted to play this track but knew it was a bit sophisticated for me so I am so grateful for your masterclass on it. Always get a good feeling jamming along to bluesy tunes so this is therapy and thanks for the great backing track too.

Yes, I'd definitely encourage you to try this one. Yes, there are a few tricky spots, but if you break it down and take it slowly it should be do-able. Hope you enjoy getting it together!

Wow this is great! Yes, the 'camera man inexplicably cuts away from guitar during solo' thing is so common. The bane of my life when I'm trying to check fingering details of my transcriptions.

2026-09-07 18:00 One of the first songs I learned when I started taking guitar seriously. This is great as I’m sure I made several mistakes when I used to play it haha. It would be great to see more Danny Kirwan. Thanks for this!

What a great succinct song. I'm going to admit, just the rhythm / harmony is a good workout form. Fun series of chord progressions. Thanks again!

anyonecanplayguitar

Yes the chords are great. It's un to just try improvising your own thing over the chords - a good workout navigating multiple key changes in one piece.

Yes, this had got me listening to Danny Kirwan again, so I may well try and do some more later this year if people are interested.

That's a great clip.
