Ufff baby girl sounds like those "teachers" of my church afternoon activities that actually were people like in their 20s at best, sure when you are little is everything wholesome, family oriented, no hate at all, until you grow up and look back all the passive aggressive adults that basically police everything in church, even the priest 🙄. I might just be me, but I never found Honey loathsome tbh. At most just kinda annoying. Someone who sometimes says things that are dumb or insensitive. But not truly malicious or awful. So I never really got where Topher was coming from when he called her a monster. On a side note, when Honey started getting closer to her brothers, did that prompt Merry and/or Maple to confront them?

man i remember sitting in church camps hearing statistics about how looking at porn ONE SINGLE TIME will ruin your brain FOREVER AND EVER and then you can’t fulfill your godly duty of bangin to bring kids, and if you even thought about self pleasure you were already lost to god. its part of the reason Honey, like another person in this comment section, just can’t be seen as ‘loathsome’ to me- but i can see how others would think that way. might reply to that comment lol- but! but. i have a major soft spot for her, i can’t help it. i look at her and go “that’s a kid i grew up with, man.” i really like how u write her, is what i’m saying, pshshsh. girlie trust me. you won’t explode if you see boobs on the internet

i 100% agree with you on this stuff, but i can see where Topher n those who dislike her are coming from, especially from an in-universe context. for Topher in specific he grew up in a similar environment to her, had to repress every single piece of himself or be reprimanded and then thrown away by the ideologies that Honey is parroting. i’m not clear on if Honey is out to her brothers, but assuming that she is (given her parents know and the common sense wlw club thing) i imagine he can’t really accept the fact that she could have a part of herself that is so incredibly antithetical to their religion and still stand on their side. and we do know she has supported things that could have devastating effects, the first off my noggin being how she was anti-welfare in a convo w Skye. even if she’s just saying stuff to get a rise, that’s verbally supporting the dismantling of the few actions that are there to help people who could die without them. and she’s just parroting that to get a reaction? how much else has she supported just to be smugly ‘on the right side’? and yeah, i fully like her, i think she’s a great character and i don’t think she fully… gets? what she’s doing. because to her she is on the correct side, and she’s justifying every piece of her that isn’t in order to keep it that way (like how Lop elsewhere said she’d explain away porn by doing ‘research for when she’s married to a woman’ lol.) i feel Topher also has a bunch of baggage around Honey in relation to her being the offspring of an affair that wrecked his family and, on some level, is the perfect daughter he never was/could be. he also just doesn’t seem to be a very forgiving person lol, not that i blame him at alllll. there’s just a lot of nuance going on all sides y’know? Honey, at heart, isn’t as horrible as she makes herself out to be, and it’s easy for us to know that bc we get to see her as a character + how she grows into someone entirely different. but i definitely see how anyone in universe, especially someone in Topher’s position in relation to her, would hate her/who she seems to be. i love this little golden puppygirl

As with real world Christianity, the holy book of Honey's religion is thought to be the divine word of god, but in actuality is a collection of many different religious texts that draw ideas from many different world religions and stories. Much has been changed across countless translations and revisions. Due to this, the book is somewhat inconsistent when it comes to defining Hell, and there is much scholarly discussion and speculation over the topic. Toffee, having studied scripture for decades (he even has a doctorate in it), interprets hell to be a simple desolate void, in which the individual is deprived of the presence of god. Honey and Merry both believe in the more traditional "lake of fire" version of hell, in which the individual is tormented for eternity, usually via immolation of the soul. Their version-not that they know it- is largely colored by depictions of hell in popular media, which themselves draw from ancient literature and poetry (basically furry Dante's Inferno), rather than their actual holy book. This image of brimstone and hellfire is fantastic for frightening people into giving money to the church, but also keeps both Merry and Honey in a state of existential anxiety. Honey fears defying the teachings of her church and going to hell. Merry does as well, but he's much better at justifying his own sinful behaviors. By his own logic Merry should be doomed to eternal damnation as a traitorous, unrepentant, lying adulterer, buuuuut he tells himself that was all part of the almighty's mysterious plan. 😌 Only "real" sinners go to hell (real sinners being defined as anybody Merry and Honey do not like).
