Young Shadow sets out to catch the elusive strawberry thief plaguing his family’s orchard every night. Turns out it ain’t El Chupacabra at all! Just some dirty, scrawny-lookin‘ coyote kid. Huh. Poor lil fella looks awful hungry. Shadow wonders if Ma would mind fixing an extra plate for supper….

How Shadow met Django~

Dang. If he's out stealing food that young then Django's home life must have been awful

Gleeman and Artist

Ohhh cant wait too see more about these twos relationship

Biscuit

Decided to stick with Shadow’s old design? Neat :) Did Strawberry and Saint adopt or take care of Django in some manner?

Kenzie Leong

I am supremely interested in this scrunkly coyote boy man and his "history" with Shadow.

I tweaked his color palette a bit, but yeah, he just didn't feel right not being a tricolor dog. I also wanted him to look a lot like Saint, for story reasons. Strawberry and Saint don't quite adopt Django....it's not that they wouldn't (especially since Strawberry felt sheepish after ranting about how she'd blast the "berry bandit" with her pellet gun when she found them and Saint felt a touch foolish over his quasi-drunk plans to catch "el chupacabra" in a convoluted home alone trap). Their parental instincts were triggered full blast over skinny young Django, and they absolutely would've taken him in as one of their own pups. But Django has an independent streak, like an old barn cat. He can be fed and befriended, but never likes to stay in one place too long (didn't help that loud boisterous Saint spooked him and Strawberry demanded he hop in the bathtub and let her get him some real clothes). He always comes back, though, eventually. Django nonetheless does end up becoming an unofficial part of the Pawberry family, with a seat always welcome for him at the supper table- and he also ends up becoming Shadow's very best friend.

Oooh I’m loving these two. Can’t wait to see more!

Strawberry and Saint are my most favoritest parents in your rogues gallery of problematic milfs and dilfs. They do being older right

Thank you! I love them too. I can't wait to explore Strawberry the way I have with Saint~

lopoddity

he's approximately 4 seconds away from chomping shadow's hand

Doxiedreg

Augh buppy... Can't wait to hear how this relationship sours in adulthood

Murkydepths

Oh gosh what is a little thing like him doing wild and alone? ;-; What happened to your family Django

Callihan

I really like the colors here! With the sunrise gradient over the berry bushes and how it complements the colors on Shadow and Django it makes everything really satisfying to look at. I like how both the sunrise and Shadow’s kind of sleepy expression shows that he stayed out all night to catch Django. It makes the fact that he’s still very patient with Django all the more sweet! Early morning quiet is written all over this and it’s lovely! I’ve also been curious about Django and Shadow so I’m really happy they’re getting explored!!!

WAr

Does Django walk on all fours?

cactus bastrop

oooooh django! i was wondering if you'd ever revisit him--my curiosity is piqued >:)

Robo87

LOOK AT THE PUDDIES!!!!

lopoddity

Kinda. He mostly walks upright, but with a forward slouch, ready to drop down on all fours if he needs to dash away. He's a bit of a feral child, or a "scampery sumbitch", as Saint would put it. It's not uncommon for young children to run on all fours, especially canine children. But parents normally discourage it because it's seen as low class, and also because it gets one's hands dirty. Shadow and his siblings are long past scampering about like puppies (except for the occasional play-scuffle when Mama Strawberry ain't lookin). Django will come to stand and walk more upright the longer he's socialized around the Pawberry pups, partly because he wants to emulate Shadow, and partly because Strawberry will not permit him at the dinner table with muddy hands.

knickknacks

Oh, so nice to see Django again!! He is,,, so scrungly, poor little dude. It's heartwarming to hear that the Pawberry fam was a constant for him, for a bit.. though that makes the bitterness we saw between him and Shadow the last time you drew them sting a little more :') What was his dynamic with the other four siblings like? Did he have as much of a relationship with them, or was he primarily close with Shadow? Do any of the others still associate with him in the present, or are their feelings pretty similar to Shadow's as well?

marsh_beast

Shadow: See, Pa? Told ya there wasn’t a chupacabra. Saint, sullenly taking down his red-string board: It’s called a RED HERRING, Shad. He’ll be back.

lopoddity

Great question! The answer is...it's complicated. The Pawberry siblings loved Django as kids, and that bond never truly went away, they do still see him as family as adults. But Django has made some choices that puts him at odds with the family's values. As adults all the siblings maintain a sort of stiff tension with Django, some keep him at a bit of a distance (Summer, Soup), some are reasonably friendly (Snowball, Skye), and some are outright hostile (Shadow, as he was Django's closest friend).

Corinne Stephenson

And how does Mama Strawberry feel about Django now??

lopoddity

Even more complicated! Strawberry cares for Django like she does her own pups, he was her son's childhood best friend. He's her kin. But his adulthood actions have her feeling twisted up inside- angry and sad, full of remorse and doubt, but also stubbornness. She was the first to threaten Django at riflepoint, Shadow is just following her example. It's not all that effective a threat, Django knows the Pawberry family is all bark and no bite.

doggydogdog

I love all this exploring of characters you haven't touched on in awhile! I love Django! A lovable ruffian! I can't wait until you show us more on other characters like Victoria or isla! I love e your stuff, thank you so much for all you do.

Ren

I love the sky in the background so much here! The characters look so young and soft! Poor Django. I’m so glad to see him back I was obsessed with his design when you first posted him! I wonder if his family is just… not good or if simply has no family at all and is living on his own just trying to survive. I’m glad he found a safe place with the strawberry family, I’m sure he felt grateful but some resentment/jealousy for not having a family like them might have led to whatever split them apart later on. Maybe growing up he fell into a rough crowd or simply made some bad decisions, it has to be bad enough to obviously sough something awful between him and Shadow but not so terrible that some of the family is still civil with them. Maybe he robbed or broke something precious of the families, maybe even something of the late Saint which definitely would have soured him to the family. Found family that falls apart, ugh so painful but such good fictional content. I can’t wait to see more of Django and Shadow and all the good and the bad!

nighthawk0913

Did you decide to switch back to Shadow's old design instead of the all black and white one?

lopoddity

I mashed his new and old designs together. :3 He just didn’t feel right not being a tricolor dog

nighthawk0913

That makes sense. I also like his design best with the tricolor fur :)
