Bob and Toff on their first ever sorta-date (watching hockey at Bob’s apartment). Neither are paying much attention to the game. Bob, you see, is mouthy, crude, and confident in public, but turns shy and hesitant in private. Toffee is the exact opposite. Pastor pooch boutta pounce (as his purview of purity is not so puritanical)

stealth edit: hmm in retrospect the original language here was probably pushing it, decided to dial it back to something a bit less explicit. Bob was taught growing up to have a stiff respect for the church, but Toffee is exactly the kind of guy to make depraved religious innuendo that reeeeeally doesn’t leave much to the imagination and it. Flusters Bob. SO much

EDIT: okay, so i axed toffee’s original thought bubble because I worried it might be in violation of patreon’s guidelines, but i’ve reread their policy and the site outlines that comedy featuring adult language isn’t counted as mature (and thus requiring a nsfw account to post). Sooo I added the original joke as an alternate version, apologies for all these edits!

HE’S HAS A MUSTACHE NOW 🗣️🙌🏾 I love that little design choice so much and I wanna absorb your art directly into my cerebral cortex. He looks so soft and pretty, and I love how you’re able to portray age in your art. Crow’s feet is my weakness.

lopoddity

Thank you! :3 I originally had it as a one-off gag where Toffee was so busy with his church and charity work that he hadn’t had time for a proper grooming, but I liked his scruffy look so much I decided to make it permanent. It helps distinguish him from his father and look more like Topher and Honey.

lopoddity

Toffee’s thought bubble here is suggestive, but originally it was (too) explicit, stating outright that he wanted to ahem, boink Bob. The joke being that you wouldn’t expect a “holy man” to be thinking something so crude. “Worship at his altar” is a stand-in metaphor for what was originally written.

FacelessScar

I adore how much this new look feels like the perfect middle ground between the first design and the redesign. The scruffy mustache just suits him so well

We stan scruffy Toffee in this house

I saw this in my notification email from Patreon with the original text and let me tell you, as the awful person I am, I thought it was hilarious 🤣 Buuuut…. I can see why you changed it.

lopoddity

Aw, I'm glad you thought it was funny. But in the end I felt it was a bit too much for patreon. I didn't know if Toffee's original line would be considered "explicit content" under patreon's guidelines, so I figured an edit was best. I'm honestly happy with the change, the original joke felt a bit cheap in retrospect. Toffee probably would be lewd as fuck when fired up and in private, but in his normal moments he strikes me as the kind of guy that flirts through flowery language and cheeky innuendos.

Doxiedreg

Yes!!! He has a moustache now! As a lover of facial hair I approve! Also augh they are so cute together.

Must Love Frogs

The change is better for your narrative, but the original DID make me laugh out loud. ;) So how did this dog of the cloth and this ruffian even meet? They seem like they'd come from totally different worlds.

marsh_beast

Bob, telling his work pals: He’s a real gentleman-ly type a’ guy, I just get worried that I’m moving too fast for him. Toffee, to Topher: I saw him take his shirt off once and nearly had to stick my face in the holy water font. GRACIOUS.

AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! Bob is officially my favorite character, and I loooooove the design tweek for Toff!!!! What a lovely little pair of doofs 🥰🥰🥰

I understand that you modified the original monologue better to fit Toffee's humor and line of work, but I am curious as to what would prevent you from creating other works in the style that you see fit? You mentioned in the comments on your works that you rethought some of your original ideas, thinking they might be "too much for Patreon." Although Patreon has community guidelines, there are NSFW artists on the platform. You have left MLP and Deviantart to take creative liberties in a fandom with a massive kid following and a sandbox world. Most of your supporters have followed you from other platforms, but most of us have come to see the nature of your art as YOU want it. You’re suitable about CW and TW, and if it makes you feel better about what you’re dishing to your demographic, I think a poll or two would help. Ignore me if this is too personal or invasive, but I am left wondering what you would have done for some things if you had stuck to your original plan. Change it if you think it was bad in retrospect, even after you have posted it! Make a new tier! Yes, refine them to your liking, but do not let us stop you from doing what you want! I am sure more people than I support taking your full, unrestricted, creative brainchildren.

Scruffy Toff for the win! also FLUSTERED BOB??? this is so cute, my goodness... I love them.

Aw, I’m glad. Bob and Toffee met through Toffee’s church! Toffee’s aging, dilapidated church that is in constant need of repair. Toffee is fairly handy with a set of tools himself, but certain things (such as the slowly widening hole in his office ceiling), were beyond his abilities. He needed contractors, so enter foreman Bob of Beaverton General Contractor Inc. Bob was friendly and helpful and walked poor anxious Toffee how to get the best quality repairs at prices that wouldn’t bankrupt him. This is because Bob, surly though he can be, is a nice guy. And also because he liked Toffee right from the start. Their repair discussions move into more casual discussions- faith, sports, news (Toffee kinda agrees when Bob calls the local politicians dumbasses), hobbies. Toffee starts bringing Bob and his workers fresh baked goods, and eventually inviting Bob to have lunch with him at the nearby park. Toffee likes Bob, but isn’t sure if Bob feels the same way, while Bob is crushing like an idiot but god-awful at expressing it. He might not have ever asked Toffee out if it weren’t for the exasperated intervention of his ex-wife, and even then it’s not terribly romantic, just two friends watching a hockey game. Bob married his high school sweetheart and has little experience outside of that, so dating is awkward new territory for him. Toffee has had many, many short-lived flings, much like his brother Topher he spent his youth afraid of intimacy and focused on self-destructive pleasure binges (and resulting shame spirals). Just a few years ago Toffee would’ve approached Bob with nothing in mind besides a quick hookup, but he’s matured a lot since then, and he’s already gotten attached to Bob and wants to keep him around. Adorable beaver man is adorable, Toffee just wants to pinch his fluffy flustered cheeks (and drain his balls)

Aw, thank you, I appreciate your consideration. But I changed the line because I thought it might be in violation of Patreon’s guidelines. I’m a bit too used to deviantart and tumblr, where a post with mature themes can be labeled with a mature tag. Patreon doesn’t have that feature, and requires that accounts posting mature content be labeled as NSFW. It seems as though mildly suggestive drawings and jokes are okay, but I thought Toffee’s line, which mentions a specific sex act, might be pushing it. I’ve since decided it’s probably okay, but I’ll remove it if patreon takes issue. I may indeed end up tagging my account as NSFW just to be on the safe side, but I’ve always wanted this account to be a clean one, nothing raunchier than characters cursing, flirting, and/or occasionally making goofy faces at clothed butts and boobs and whatnot. Nothing past PG-13 at worst. Not that I think there’s anything wrong with explicit furry content, it’s just not something I’m particularly interested in making myself. Silly jokes are enough for me. :3

Game here to say the same! Handsome scruffy doggo 😍💕

owlcoholik

I saw the original joke right as I was going to sleep last night, I thought it was so funny and told my fiancé about it this morning. Then when I told them the joke has returned we both cheered. Love a good Balls joke

Dragonseeker

I love these two so much lmaooo

Lana

NOOOO THE OG WAS GOLD PLS😭😭😭

Ah yes Merry’s three children: Twink, Twunk, and Twit

Corinne Stephenson

Headcanon: Bob mentioned he like Toffee's mustache the one time he let it grow too long during his busy months at church. Toffee remembered this and let it grow out before his date with Bob. He has not shaved since

Res Hound

Yeees let the twinks grow mustaches

Hey, Lop, I know this is a little out of left field but I just wanted to tell you I really appreciate Toffee so much as a character. It's so rare to see a spiritual/religious queer character that isn't treated like a joke or as a self-hating fool who just needs to see the "light" of how terrible their religion is (Christianity being the main one mostly used, at least in Western media) and become truly themselves once they ditch it. I don't think these depictions are necessarily unfounded or bad but as a queer person myself who still considers themselves religious despite that, it's such a breath of fresh air to see. There are DEFINETELY completely fair critiques to be made on the institution of religion and how it has wronged so many people (women, minorities, queer folk, etc.) but religion and spirituality is still something so human and important to so many people, queer or not. Thank you so much for this thoughtful and fun representation. You're such an inspiration to me for character design, writing, and world-building.

lopoddity

Thank you!! 💗 I'm so touched. <3 And so glad you're enjoying Toffee! Your comment makes me feel like I'm succeeding with his character, I was really aiming for something more nuanced than "organized religion bad". You make me wanna draw more of scruffy pastor dog, there's so much about him we've yet to dig into.

Coming back here and reading your repeated edit logs abt which joke is more appropriate is so funny knowing that you eventually ended up just making your patreon 18+ anyway jfhshfh i love both joke versions too. ‘Worship at his altar’ has me like 😏 but ‘drain his balls’ js just jfhshJFHSHJFKSH
