I think I might be confused about why Mamoka left Diamond Dust. Is it because they didn't reach the level of notariety that she was looking for, or was it due to creative differences?

I can understand Nina's anger here. Seeing someone who used to be your friend who ended up treating you poorly as the lead singer of a band that gave you the inspiration to go it on your own.

I am pulling for Momoka and the band...!P.S. I am dying to BINGE this show!

Subaru´s boxing ring bell to start the figth is one of the funniest things I ever see. HA HA.

Don't worry, it will be explained further, but you will understand why Momoka quit and I think you might agree with her, but we will see ^^.

I'm going to try and avoid spoiling things, but the thing you need to factor in with the flashback sequences for Nina is that it's always from her perspective and she might not be a 100% reliable narrator. Just think about how she unfairly perceived Subaru's comments & behaviour when they first met compared with the reality. There's more nuance that'll be explored in further episodes, but from the information we've had so far, Momoka quit Diamond Dust because they were being asked to change their image (hence the idol-esque outfits) & sound in order to appeal to a more mainstream audience by the management/label they had signed with and who were investing in them. Prior to that they'd been an indie band with much greater control over their direction. The other members rationalised it as something they'd be prepared to do initially to 'get their foot in the door' commercially and then gradually regain their artistic freedom but Momoka as the main songwriter wasn't prepared to compromise artistically.

The way my eyes widened reading your comment!!! I never thought about the other perspective other than Nina’s. That makes so much more sense. …and thank you for talking through the Diamond Dust thing. There’s so much more that I’m dying to see now!!!

Did you notice the subs for what was written on the members t-shirts as their cheap personalised outfits during the end performance? Nina's reads 'Truant' (cos she doesn't go to school), Subaru's is 'Liar' (due to not telling her grandmother the truth) and Momoka's is 'Withdrew' (cos she quit Diamond Dust). Also they have a laptop on a stand next to Subaru's drumkit, which is what they were using to record in the rehearsal space and can then be used as playback for extra layers they can't replicate live as presently constructed. It would be much more awkward to load anything that isn't guitar or bass into the looper pedal and then it's another thing for Momoka to think about triggering whilst playing. Whereas Subaru can just start the backing track layer and be playing along to a click to stay in time with it. Also as you've seen it in the show now, here's the link to the full audio version of that end song, called 'What to Raise': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swVEesI3StM

You're in for a real treat going forward then. As for the desire to binge, it's what I did first time and watched it over 2-3 consecutive nights. But you can still do that for a repeat view after you've finished watching it with us and try to pick up on all the elements you missed first time round. ;-) Once you've seen the show there's still plenty of additional related material to dig into, just for starters there's two full albums, the soundtrack and several singles that don't feature in the show, from both before and after it was broadcast, some of which also have MVs. There's a behind the scenes 'making of...' short that shows how complicated the CGI aspect is, live footage of the VAs performing as the actual band and all kind of promos both talking and performance based.

The first time I watched "Girls band Cry" was in a "non official" site because of nobody licencing it while it was airing in Japan, and the traduction subs of the tshirts was slighly different. Subaru's was "Liar" like this, but Momoka's was "Coward" and Nina's "Dropout". Don't know wich one in the correct.

Andrew Hellebrand

It's probably localisation with the meaning landing somewhere between the two, from the brief view we get of each it appears to be freehand kanji rather than hiragana and they can sometimes have multiple interpretations. It might be that there isn't an exact equivalent translation into English and the respective subs were trying to put what they considered to be the nearest approximation.

I think that from what it sounds like its that she didn't want to sell out. It sounds like the record company might have asked them to change. This is me just speculating from watching along I haven't seen past this.

Capt'n Ren

Binge it, I will binge watch your reaction to every episode.

The club where they played, Live House Serbian Night, is an actual music venue in Kawasaki that they modeled for the anime.
