I understand what Shirase meant when she said she didn't care what others thought about her going to Antarctica.

Sometimes you have to just do something even if it might be impossible. I think it's better to be scared and fail than to never try and not know.

NittPicc, you NEED to travel to Japan. At 75 years old, this past summer, I had the adventure of a lifetime traveling to that wonderful country on my own (no travel agent or group travel) , preparing as much as I could, and learning and exploring as I went. Made a few mistakes, but learned from them and loved every minute of the trip. Japan is a great country to do that. The people are polite, kind, and honest. The country is stunningly beautiful, clean, the ancient temples and sites are well maintained and the culture and the technology are eye-opening. The Japanese society while anchored by its traditions and reverence for its heritage is so much more advanced technically the were are or will be in the U.S.

I'm so glad you decided to check this one out despite it not being a music based show, though the soundtrack is still great. This is comfortably in my top 5 anime of all time and is about as well constructed and complete a story as you're likely to find in any standalone single cour 13 episode show. I even bought the ltd edition collector's blu-ray boxset, in part to get the English dub so I could convince my fiancee to watch it, worth every penny. Love the character development throughout and on top of all the main cast feeling very fleshed out you also don't get any cliche one note caricatures, even in much smaller supporting roles. Also did you notice all the penguin 'easter eggs' already slipped into the opening episode? They're definitely an ongoing motif throughout the show. It's written by screenwriter Jukki Hanada, who was also heavily involved in both Girls Band Cry and Sound! Euphonium. He also wrote the scripts for eleven episodes of K-On! and seven episodes of Chobits (for a bit of childhood NittPicc nostalgia with that last one).

Really enjoyed this and very different from the other ones which is great to mix it up. Small correction sorry (I feel that nerdiness is welcome/required here!) that it would be the Southern lights in Antarctica, not the Northern lights - so it would be the Aurora Australis rather than the Aurora Borealis :)

I hope to go someday soon. I am saving up and doing some research. I have a friend who lived in Japan for 5 years and they have been talking me through some things. It’s a priority trip for me!

The script writing makes so much sense since the story has me invested in the characters so far. I recorded episode 2 yesterday and I’m already in love with the new character introduced.
