I was worried from the start of this episode.

Mei wanting to support her favorite pop artist, "Nonoka," was sweet, but Kano couldn't accept the money from her. Kano has moved on and wants to be who she is and wants to continue making music under the name JELEE.

I understand Mei's disappointment. The singer you've been obsessed with made you feel seen and helped you build confidence and now she's telling you that they don't ever want to be that person anymore.

Little did Mei know, Kano was still the "Nonoka," she knew.

As it showed towards the end Mei's full name is Mei Kim Anouk Takanashi and she's actually half German, hence her different red hair colour in the flashback. Though her middle name of Anouk is more typically a Dutch name; one of the most famous female rock singers from the Netherlands who I've followed intermittently since the late 90s is Anouk Schemmekes née Teeuwe. The show being written by Japanese script/story writers means they probably just picked a European sounding name rather than researched it too heavily. Kim is more of a Korean name (lots of the fanbase initially thought she was Korean mixed), hence turning it into the more Japanese Kimura due to insecurity when she first met Kano and finally Mei is a more traditional Japanese name. In a lot of more traditional Japanese schools you can get in trouble for having your hair any colour but black and because it's that unusual (at least in more rural areas), if you're not obviously foreign then people might even accuse you of dyeing it when it's actually natural. There's a mild racial element to the bullying she was going through, being a kid with visible mixed heritage she probably was a little isolated to begin with, even before factoring in her shy personality.

Even out of the public eye, Miku uses "po" at the end of her sentences. She admits that she even shocked at times by it.
