It is nice to see Frieren taking her time to get to know Fern. I feel like this is her chance to not necessarily fix what she didn't do enough before with Himmel and the crew she journeyed with before, but it definitely is a step in the direction to getting to know the human beings in her life.

Seeing her obliterate that demon was so satisfying. Her coming back to make sure that the demon was rid of when her magic was stronger was beautiful. Himmel knew she would come back to take care of what needed to be done when it was time.

That is true friendship.

1.) The "ß" is an eszett and it has a double-s sound. So Größe is like Grösse. 2.) The joke involving Fern being like her older sister, looking at Fern's chest, and then her own is essentially a breast joke. Frieren is innocently trying to determine why Fern is bigger than her (she eliminates diet as one of the factors). In this world, I'm not sure what Elven sex ed teaches about development. 3.) The show, even the opening, is showing Frieren as the bridge between the 2 stories: Himmel's party of Heroes and Frieren's group. There's a cool part in the opening where we see both parties, they slide away to opposite sides until two halves of Frieren merge into a complete image. Frieren is a student of sorts when she's in Himmel's party and she's a mentor to Fern later on. It's a nice parallel throughout the show so far. Edit: To build on what others have said, many of the names are words in German (as you saw with Himmel).

In the figth with Quaal is the first time we listen to "Zoltraak" OST by Evan Call. One the most recognizable tracks of this show. Nittpic, you should check the OST when you have time. About the ending, I gonna make a bold statement. Frieren's endings are the best I ever seen. Specially the second ending that will aired in the second half of this season. The ending of the second season is also awesome Visually stunning and with the marvelous voice of the godmother of this show, the goddess Milet. I love her so much, MY personal favorite japanese singer.

Quick note: Frieren never forgets. From posts on Reddit: "Frieren possesses a near-perfect, photographic memory, which is a common trait among elves in the series. She can recall almost everything she has seen or heard over her life with incredible clarity, often recalling specific conversations or scenes from her past in vivid detail"

One more episode left of the prologue!

One more episode to finish tutorial :) Zoltraak "battle theme" was covered on many instruments, but this was just teaser for that song, wait with reactions and listening to full version until (well you will now when you heard full battle theme ;) )

They're not all crying episodes. But there is definitely a thread of loss and sentimentality that runs through this show; Frieren's immortality is used as a device to contrast our own human experience of time with the scale of history (as well as to tell two different stories, as Bret noted), and her struggle to understand her relationships lets us explore them with her. I said to someone the other day that the show tricks you: it has the trappings of an epic fantasy anime (and there are definitely fights coming up, not just easy jobs like Qual) but more often it works like a slice-of-life anime.

Not every episode will make you cry, just most of them:) Chest size comparsion joke is one of few moments mentioning Frieren younger look. At this point i was afraid it will use fanservice jokes too often and with that change switch the mood of episodes, but it didn't. For faservice naughty and funny RPG story watch KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!

As others have kinda said, Frieren doesn't have any issues with memory per say, as an elf it's meant to be near perfect and photographic, but there's a lot more of them than for a human and the way she assigns significance to them is also very different. Her making an effort to learn more about humans means that her present experiences are giving her the relevant context to better understand the nuance of past times that perhaps didn't seem important originally back then. When she says she wants to retrace the adventures with her previous party when possible before they fade away, she's meaning the evidence of their deeds in the world itself, she'll always remember but humanity won't and things will pass into legend. As for the 80yr gap and how much humans have adapted & reverse engineered Zoltraak in what seems like a relatively short period to Frieren & Qual, it's in part a comment on the motivations and greater of urgency induced by humanity's much shorter lifespan compared with elves, dwarves and demons. Plus think about how much an airplane evolved between the Wright Brothers in 1903 and what was in the air in 1983, if you lived for hundreds of years then you wouldn't need to push as much to reach your objectives.
