At the end of this video, I play some of BAND-MAID's "Choose Me." It's a work in progress since I don't have 5 strings, but it's a start!

After watching this masterclass, I am more confident on my ability to pull the string to get the sound I am looking for. It's not perfect right no, but I hope to get better.

...although...

HOW IS SHE SLAPPING?!? OH MY GOSH!

You couldn't have a better teacher or inspiration! MISA, MISA, MISA!

Wayne B

She makes it look so easy!

Progress made! As Band-Maid says, "Perfection, no one gets there." Practice, Practice, practice! Good job today!

David Cousins

Progress, practice, more progress. Good job, keep practicing and you'll get there. Misa makes it look easy; she has been playing bass since High School. Besides, she plays for a living - she is good though:), very good. I'll say this again, Misa is the reason I dove into Band Maid and have not regretted it in anyway shape or form. That dive has led me to so many bands from Japan that I have come to enjoy, so much so that 95% of the music I listen to is from Japanese artists. So, keep practicing. On YouTube you asked about Days and Cage, don't wait.

There SHOULD BE a Band-Maid School of Rock!!!!!

I remember I read once an interview with Robbert Fripp, and he said, his advice to anyone who starts learning guitar, is just sit for a few days at first, playing just one note and listening to the sound. He said, the sound is more important than the ability to play fast. I think it applies to any music instrument. First try to understand how to get a good sound out of it. Yes, just the way you did it: hitting the string this way and that way, and in the end understanding how to hit it right, so that it SOUNDS. It's a meditation, actually. I always thought that the people who can learn a music instrument are miraculous geniuses. I was never able to sit for a few hours and just attempt to learn a certain phrase on an instrument. My head would go dizzy after 15 minutes, and I would stop understanding what's going on.

And I remind you, NittPicc, again, that inside your Blu-Ray box, there is a card with a code that you must register at the Web-site, for a chance to win a signed thing. Don't act the strange way you acted last time, not opening the box for a few months.

Hola NittPicc! With Misa's style of slap bass she is only striking the string with her thumb. It looks like you are trying to use Koga's type of slap where the strike also "plucks" the string. I hope noting the difference in techniques helps, you're doing great!

Your willingness to play in front of others as a newby reminds me of what you'll see when you get around to the Yokohama Arena documentary disc - In the studio, before Saiki's onstage piano debut in the arena, she had all the other members line up directly in front of her as she played Choose Me, just to see how well her nerves would stand up. You more than most of us know what it means to progress on an instrument. You know what will happen as the months and years go by.

A fun bass line to start with is the theme from Peter Gunn. With slapping, the key is a quick release of the thumb (on your picking/slapping hand). Think of your thumb as a drumstick. You can also start by slapping an open string so you can focus on the slapping technique without having to cleanly fret it.

Daaang do you really understand what she's trying to say?

😅 I wish! Thank goodness for the subtitles that BM fan DriveTime turned me on to. 🥳
