July means it's time to get weird | Secret Base Newsletter (Patreon)

Hello, you beautiful people.

First things first, I would like to offer a little something to all of you reading. Last July, we published a video about Bison Dele. He was an incredibly interesting person and had something to do with a Rewinder that Seth was producing, but so much of Dele's story that is worth hearing about doesn't really fit into how Rewinder works. So, we made an episode extension - a first for us. That gave us a chance to take some of our research that otherwise wouldn't see the light of day and turn it into a conversation that y'all hopefully enjoy. Anyway, as of today, that video is now available for every single person reading this. We're pulling it from behind the paywall so anyone who is a free member of our Patreon can now enjoy it.

Why are we doing this? Oh, you know, just out of the goodness of our hearts. That's it. But beyond that, if you happen to enjoy this and want more like it - upgrade your membership to get access to more like it. If you're still reading, I'll be honest: it's more the membership ploy than the "goodness of our hearts" bit. It's promotional. I didn't want to lie to you. Now I feel kind of bad. In hopes that you forgive me, I'd like to offer you this video of Seth, Ryan, and Will talking about former NBA player and all around interesting person, Bison Dele. Wait shit I mentioned that already ok uhhh if that's not enough, then let me tell you about what's coming to YouTube this month because you might like that!

WEIRD RULES AND COLLAPSE

That's right. They're finally returning to YouTube. We actually wouldn't have been able to bring Weird Rules back if it wasn't for a T-Mobile sponsorship, so pretty stoked to have been able to record a bunch more of those, which will come out over the next few months.

As for Collapse, well, that one we couldn't have done without all of your support. We produced three brand new episodes that have all hit Patreon in case you can't wait to watch those, but if you're more of a patient type then they'll start dropping later in July.

Otherwise, YouTube has some tennis coverage coming to it with Wimbledon kicking off (or... serving off? Commencing? That sounds regal enough) as well as an episode of Scattered coming from everyone's favorite, Alex Rubenstein.

OK BUT WHAT ABOUT SCORIGAMI

Kind of you to ask. For our paying members, part 2 of Scorigami is going live on July 7th, just in time to help cure everyone's hot dog hangovers after the long weekend. Parts 3 and 4 are scheduled for the first Mondays in August and September, so mark your calendars. If you haven't caught episode 1 yet, the full episode is available for you, or you can check out our YouTube Shorts or our TikTok for some bite-sized portions of that project.

Elsewhere on Patreon, we have more episodes of Phys Ed coming your way with some very fun guests - some familiar faces and voices to you Secret Base heads out there, as well as some really cool not-Secret-Base-affiliated folks who were very generous with their time.

We're also kicking around an idea that I'm curious if y'all would be into it. Basically, we want to see what sports/games we can invent and play in GTA 5. AND NO, THIS ISN'T AN EXCUSE TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES ON COMPANY TIME STOP ASKING, MOM. We're still figuring out the best way for us to pull this off without it just devolving into us fully dicking around, but there will probably still be a lot of that too. You into it? Let us know.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

We just wrapped up a run of NBA content on YouTube, which included some Prisms on a pair of very different Bens. Those are also available as ad-free videos here on Patreon if you're interested.

I mentioned Phys Ed, but just in case: we dropped episodes with Jon Bois, Jessica Smetana, and Joe Ali. Let us know what you think! We're enjoying making this show, but it's more important that you're enjoying listening to it.

Hope everyone is staying cool if it's hot where you are, or staying warm if it's cold. It's wild that other people are experiencing weather that's different from what I'm dealing with...

Love you! See you soon!
