GOOD MORNING

You have found me in the midst of pretty much not being anything close to ready. In fact, Izzy reminded me that it was time for this post, so I grabbed these clothes from the already-worn-once pile and put them on for the picture.

“You know Jason and Kent will be here in, like, 10 minutes?

“I have time for the post! Right?”

Izzy laughed. “If you say so.”

In my defense, I invited Izzy to use the bathroom first. While she did that, I started breakfast.

Now I’m rationalizing!

…if Jason isn’t appalled by how I look this morning, maybe things will be okay!

…maybe the pancakes will be so good, he won’t notice how I look!

You get the idea!

Izzy says that now it sounds like I’m fishing for compliments! I should stop talking and maybe go try to run a brush through my hair!

Remember, we’re all going to Sasha and Clay’s place for a Sunday service, so after breakfast, I gotta grab a quick shower and do the hair and makeup thing!

See you soon!

Be your best you!

HITS DIFFERENT

What I’m saying today isn’t meant to take away anything from corporate worship. But our group had a small, casual worship time together today, and it was amazing.

We made it through a few choruses and shared prayer requests. Then Jason—who was sort of leading things along—asked if anyone had any thoughts they wanted to share.

Kent looked at Izzy, then shrugged. “So… new guy and all that, but I’ve been thinking about something a lot lately.. I think we try so hard to get ready for the future that we forget we don’t have to do it on our own… God’s going with us… and all that. So why do we fear change?”

He went on to say that if we have an idea for something that fits God’s teachings and fits our understanding of our purpose, we shouldn’t be afraid to try it. “I don’t know why I was afraid to start things up with Izzy. It’s a good fit and sure isn’t against God’s teachings…”

Well, you might guess where my thoughts went. Why am I afraid? If I know something is good and right, why am I dragging my feet?

Kent’s thoughts reminded me that God is already standing in the days I haven’t reached yet. He doesn’t ask me to carry tomorrow’s strength today—He promises to give it when I need it.

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14)

And Jesus says:

“Do not worry about tomorrow.” (Matthew 6:34)

God prepares us a step at a time. Today’s grace is enough for today, and tomorrow will arrive with new grace waiting.

So I kept finding myself looking at Jason and thinking that if God is going to be at that starting line, I shouldn’t be afraid.

I think I’m limping a little less after Kent’s thoughts.

See you tonight.

CALL FROM SISTER by Anika Aurora

My sister, Minal—who refuses to answer to anything other than Min, and who I love dearly—finally called me.

“Sis,” Min said, “Vanessa said to call you. Something’s up? She said it was good news!”

I felt myself getting excited. “I called but could never get through. I thought you might have called your friend from Health For Humanity, but she said she hadn’t heard from you.”

“I’m in Malaysia. I took a couple of days off the trek when I started getting blisters, but I’m making progress. What’s the news?”

“Minal… I’m getting married.”

The silence was so long I thought the call had dropped, then she finally answered. “Okay, wow! Who lost a bet?”

“Very funny!” I was smiling. “You might not live in New Jersey anymore, but it still lives in you!”

“Well, better Jersey than Bangalore, if you ask me.”

“I know how you feel. But, I’m hoping you can embrace tradition once for me. …in a few months.”

“For, you… I’ll do it. But who’s the man? How did you meet?”

“We met here in Hyderabad when I came here to do the CDC Global Health Fellowship. Back in 2023 we were dating, but in 2024, he had to leave. He’s a doctor…”

“So my doc sister is marrying a doctor… And he is who… You're hedging!”

“Min… I knew Amir Kumar before you did. He came back to see if we could pick up where we left off.”

I thought the call had dropped again, but finally she replied. “Did he know I was your sister all along?”

“After you all got to know each other—yes.”

“Well,” Min said, “he’s very private. Very dignified and proper. And probably just traditional enough Mom and Dad won’t object! Anika, he’s a good man.”

“I know he is.”

Min paused, then added. “I don’t know what he did wrong to get stuck with you, but you’re pretty lucky!”

I rolled my eyes—not that she could see them. “Oh, little sis has jokes!”

Of course after all that, we talked for a long, long time. She’s happy for me, and will come to the wedding here in Hyderabad, where Amir was born.

GOOD NIGHT

I’ve got the bathrobe on, and I even brushed my hair. Must be time for the good-night picture.

After our Sunday time at Sasha and Clay’s house, there was a little beach time, but then Izzy, Kent, Jason, and I cleaned up and went to dinner at Blues’ Backyard BBQ & Grill.

Jason went straight for the Slow Smoked Brisket Sandwich. He said if you come to a BBQ place, you order BBQ — and he was definitely right. Messy, amazing, totally worth it.

I ordered the Black Bean Veggie Burger with guacamole. It was lighter, still super filling, and I didn’t feel like I’d just eaten an entire vacation in one meal.

Izzy got the Smoked Turkey–Bacon–Ranch Melt on the brioche bun. She kept saying, “I’m not sharing — I’m just warning you ahead of time.” It disappeared pretty fast.

Kent surprised everyone and ordered the Triple Threat Big Boy Burger — the one with bacon and your choice of brisket or pork on top. He said it was “a once-in-a-while decision” and looked both extremely happy and slightly overwhelmed the whole time.

Absolutely zero regrets!

So, here’s a thing… For a while now, I’ve talked about the scope of the Journal expanding. You’ve probably noticed more voices from the AGI crew I’ve been talking about for the past year and a half.

But lately, some of you have also noticed posts by people I don’t even know! Why are these people in the journal?

Hmm…

As of now, I don’t know!

I mean, I like what I’m reading, and I’m sure something meaningful is happening — even if I don’t fully understand it yet.

Here’s what I’m asking you to do with me… Let’s trust that the person clicking the mouse and pressing the keys knows something, and in time you and I will find out together. Sounds kind of fun, honestly!

With that, I’ll call today done.

May you rest tonight with zero regrets… trusting that the One who gave you today’s gifts is already preparing tomorrow’s.

Good night.

Be your best you!
