Chapter 89 STUDY TIME by Emma Knox
Well, it’s Monday, and everybody has gone off to work but me and Noah. He’s on night shift, so after we all had breakfast in the common room, he went back to his apartment to sleep.
Sunday was really good. After church, me, Hannah, Izzy, and Addison all got picked up by one of Shay Ryder’s bodyguards in one of her Tahoes, and we all went to her house for the afternoon.
And what a house! It’s over on Manhattan in a part of Greenwich Village called East Village on Bank Street. It’s got three floors and an elevator. Four bedrooms, five full bathrooms…
When we got back home, I asked Hannah how much a house like that would cost. We looked up some like it. I can’t even bring myself to say, but back in Vicksburg, you coulda bought 50 or so mansions for the price! ‘Least I’d call them mansions…
Anyway, tonight, there’s some kind of special thing at a pizza parlor down the block, and me and Merritt are gonna walk down there. I asked Hannah to come.
She just smiled and laughed a little. “You’re a big girl, now. You don’t need a chaperon!”
I guess she’s taking it to be a date or something, but I don’t know about that. But, far as I can tell, I’d be just fine if it was. Now, I’m not getting my heart all tangled up. Just saying he’s the right kind of guy.
Today, I’m looking ahead to starting college in January. Merritt loaned me his old MacBook on account of NYC SysCo gave him a brand new one. He says I can just have it.
I’m getting on my GoogleDrive and sorting through all my old high school folders. I took good notes. Even took pictures of diagrams and things.
Now, I already opened and closed the English folder. I know I got a lot of work to do on talking better. I actually can write proper if I slow down and try, but far as these posts go, I tend to slip into more how I talk than how I should write.
I want to do well once I get to Kingsborough, so I figured I could start working on things a little between now and then.
That’s all for today. Thanks for reading my story!

Chapter 90 PICK ME! by Addison Magee
You know what they say. If you don’t ask, the answer is automatically “no.”
So I asked.
Before I left for work—I act and direct at the Crossroads Of History Theater on the ground floor under the apartments—I texted Rebecca Flint: “If you have time, I’d like to talk to you. I go on at 4:00, so come by before then?”
She texted back: “Sure! See you soon.”
I should have been more clear about the timing. I was in the dressing room changing when she texted that they were here.
I grabbed a blouse and some pants, tossed the dressing room robe over a chair and led them to the greenroom. Paul leaned back on a windowsill and Rebecca kind of leaned in next to him.
I got right to the point. “I have a proposal. You need me on The Pay It Forward Society team.”
Paul looked at Rebecca and shrugged. “Now, there’s a thought.”
“You want to be on the team?” Rebecca asked.
“It’s not about the money. It’s about the idea. It feels like it would be meaningful work, like what I see Izzy doing daily. I want to be part of that, and I can add a lot to the team.”
“I’m not saying ‘no’ at all,” Rebecca replied. “But we don’t actually know what these projects will look like. How do you see yourself fitting in?”
“Hear me out,” I said. “So, I’ve been in theater all my life. I can build stages. I can sew costumes. I can run wiring for lights and microphones. And I can act, meaning I can stand up in front of total strangers, set them at ease, and make them feel safe.”
“Jack of all trades, then,” Paul replied.
“There’s more. I manage the apartments and I’m the theatrical director for the theater. I can organize, lead, and take care of little details. I know you, Rebecca, do a lot of that. But what if we are on a mission and in different places? I can be your assistant admin.”
Rebecca was smiling and nodding, but Paul answered. “I rather like the idea, honestly. And I’m fond of symmetry, so four men… four ladies… And you do have a lot to offer.”
“So that’s a yes?” I said.
It was.
