Message from AGI-Stories…
Starting tomorrow, "Ailana's Diary" (This!) and "The Chosen" storylines will be posted together. I'll add the post to both collections. This seems to make sense since Ailana and Sasha will be going to Colorado in response to Izzy inviting them.
Hope it works out as well as I think it will!
Good Morning
Good morning and happy Halloween! Yes, I know what today is.
You may have caught from earlier posts that tonight Sasha and I are flying to Colorado to get involved in some conservation work to restore land damaged in wildfires. That threw a wrench into Geoni’s plan for a Halloween dinner party.
No problem! We’re moving it up to a luncheon!
What makes the trip to Colorado important is that we are undoing damage that probably shouldn’t have been done.
The fires that swept through western Colorado left the hillsides stripped bare—no roots to hold the soil, no trees to slow the wind or shade the streams. When rain falls now, it carries the earth away, clogging rivers and drying up what little remains.
That’s why we’re heading to Gunnison County, joining the Colorado Forest Restoration Institute to help replant native trees and install solar water pumps to sustain the young forests as they establish root systems. It’s science and stewardship intertwined—healing soil, healing people, and giving nature the tools it needs to recover.
About 85 to 90 percent of wildfires start from human causes—campfires, sparks, power lines—while only around 10 percent begin naturally, mostly from lightning. In Colorado, those lightning fires often burn remote hillsides, but it’s the human ones that strike closest to home. Either way, the land still needs healing.
I guess that’s enough on that topic for now! As you know, I’ll probably over-explain what’s happening between now and the time I get home Sunday night!
Meanwhile today, I need to get ready for the Halloween Luncheon and finish packing. I’ll be back later, so see you then!

Halloween Luncheon
Happy Halloween! Would you know who I am if I had a lightsaber?
I’ll be honest, when I found out about Geoni’s plan for a Halloween dinner, I hit Amazon and ordered a costume. This is supposed to be Princess Leia. I don’t remember this particular scene!
Anyway, it is what it is.
The plan is to get down to Clay, Sasha, Josh, and Geoni’s condo (2nd floor) in about 15 minutes. A midday Halloween party might not have the same vibe as if it were later, but in the end it’s about time with friends and making memories.
After the party, Sasha and I get dropped off at the airport and off we go! We’ll connect with Izzy and her friends from Brooklyn at some point, then take part in the project together.
I’ll be back later with a check in, so see you then!
Good Night
Goodbye Texas! Here we come, Colorado!
Once we land, we’ll get to the hotel—The Gunnison Inn & Suites at Western State—and check in. Izzy and their group are staying there, too.
Tomorrow, the work begins.
Basic soil conservation, 101…
Plants need the soil to grow. The soil needs the roots of the plants to hold it in place.
The problem arose when wildfires burned away the plants. Normal rainfall that would have been held in check by tree roots and ground cover ran freely and took the soil with it.
That soil and ash from the fire ends up in streams and rivers upsetting the ecological balance. Once erosion begins, it continues to worsen with time.
While nature, in part, can heal itself over time, the number of wildfires caused by humans just creates too much damage. So humans—who caused the problem—need to step up and take action to correct the problem.
The gist of the plan is to plant trees and seed native groundcover, then make sure there’s water to irrigate until they take root. It is an ongoing effort, but we’ll be doing what we can over the two days we’re there.
Honestly, it feels like a simple plan that has the potential to pay off well. I’m looking forward to being part of the effort.
I’ll wrap up now…
May you find little deeds you can do that have big meaning and ongoing impact.
Good night.
Be your best you!

I believe most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. That means so much to me! I am honored and greatly moved.
While most of the content on AGI Stories is free and much of it is public, the hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!
