Good Morning

Waking up Wednesday to partly cloudy skies, temperatures going up to around 82°F ( 28°C)—I’m not making this up!—and a full day ahead! I have a few edits to finish for work, but around 10 a.m. Jason, Josh, Geoni, and I are going to start moving boxes from Dad’s current condo to his new home.

Also, I’m pretty excited to tell you that tomorrow, Sasha and I are going over to Brownsville to meet the young woman who gave us the idea of hiring a Program Assistant—Jasmine Banks. Sasha is pretty sure we should just hire her and see how it goes.

“Think about it…” Sasha said. “We weren’t even thinking about hiring anyone until she called that time we were headed to Colorado… She seemed really great on the phone… It just feels like she ought to get a chance at the job.”

I can’t disagree. Sasha talked to her for a long time, and said everything was great.

So, watch for something on that tomorrow.

I guess I should get going now if I'm going to be productive at all today. Of course, I’ll be back with updates throughout the day!

See you soon!

Box Day

Not to be confused with December 26, today a lot of little things—and a LOT of boxes—are getting moved from Dad’s old Whiting Street address (second floor of this building!) to his new Red Snapper Street address! Yes! I’m so excited for him!

If you’ve followed the diary for a while, you’ve probably picked up on a subtext that Grammy is… difficult. She’s critical and negative most days.

To be sure, she tries to—she really thinks she’s being helpful and supportive. And she can cook, generously sharing treats with everyone.

But it drains dad—has for years.

The move gives him a second-story space with two bedrooms, a full bath, and a small sitting area. Stairs from there down to the ground floor with an open floor plan kitchen, living room, half bath, and Grammy in the master suite.

Essentially, he’s close enough to take care of her needs, but he also finally has a second floor where he can retreat and have some privacy.

It’s only a couple blocks away, so if anything happens while he’s at work, she can call and we can get there quickly. Not as fast as if she were just downstairs, but Google says it’s a one-minute drive and six-minute walk.

So, what we’re doing is getting boxes from Whiting Street, putting them in the Highlander, and taking them over to Red Snapper. Dad will swing by after work and start unpacking what he can. Hopefully by Friday, when the truck and movers come, most of the little things will already be moved.

After the movers leave, we’ll take care of whatever small items we had them leave behind.

It’s a plan, right? So far, so good!

I’ll be back tonight to say good night. Geoni suggests a walk and some night shots. Jason and Josh aren’t arguing… so… we’ll see!

See you then!

Good Night

Tonight’s good night shot is a collaboration between Geoni and Jason. Geoni held the camera. Jason talked her through some ideas he learned during his art minor at Valpo!

Honestly, tonight felt like some of the professional shoots I did back in the day. We set out, me in baggy jeans under the dress, (which didn’t look bad, but which also wasn’t in their plan for the shoot) and sneakers.

Once we got to the location, Geoni handed me the heels. Off came the sneakers and jeans. Time to pose!

Shooting on location can go big—trailers, tents, and even rented rooms nearby. Or it can go small—like this one.

I’ve learned a few “changing clothes in public tricks.” An over-sized dress on over the top; change pants; add a shirt; take off dress. If there’s an assistant holding a sheet, the same thing can happen.

Wrap skirts are great for changing, too. Put one on over whatever you’re wearing, make the swap! An oversized hoodie can do the same thing up top. Put it on, but don’t put your arms in the sleeves. Takes a little wiggling around inside, but you can pretty much change everything.

Tonight, all I had to do was take off the jeans and change shoes.

Anyway, I’m not sure who had the most fun… me or them!

Josh sort of hit on a huge point. “You guys have come a long way as photographers. And Ailana’s background in the business isn’t hurting us any. I think we’re on the verge of being able to take on some bigger jobs.”

And I agree! Let me close this one out…

May your past experiences and your diligent preparation create the circumstances in which great success is yours!

Good night.

Be your best you!

Common Hamster

Good morning. So, Thursday you and Sasha are going to meet the persistent Jasmine Banks. I hope it all works out as you hope. You're a businesswoman, so you know what's what. Have a good morning.

Box Day. Yep.Sometimes I think moving is a synonym for box. I am relieved that you all are still close to one another, while at the same time, giving space to one another. Literally. Thanks for the map. Good luck for a successful Box Day.

Good night. Well, Geoni and Jason, thanks for a delightful evening shot of Ailana. Very nice! I like the floral dresses myself. 👍 I hope you two were able to swing a nice walk on the beach after a strenuous day moving. Have a pleasant evening. Goodnight to you.
