Chapter 56: SLOW SATURDAY by Emma Knox

Happy Saturday, everyone. Me and Hannah are going sort of slow this morning. Fact is, she’s still in the bed, but she’s awake. I took her coffee a minute ago.

I suppose you read about our Thanksgiving. It was very nice, and everyone had a really good time. I guess you saw that Hannah called Shay Ryder, and she came with Eric and Tia.

I got something to say about that, but first I want to talk about my posts. You know Jacob Brown and I went to high school together. He was a grade ahead of me. Well, at Thanksgiving, things turned out that he and I were sitting at the table while everyone else was doing different things.

“Can I say something, Emma?”

“Sure,” I said.

“Look, you’re starting college in like six or seven weeks, right?”

“Yeah…”

“I mean for this to be helpful, not hurtful. And you know when people say that, it’s probably going to hurt.”

“Say it anyway," I said.

“You need to turn on grammar checks on your writing. You write like you talk. But, in college, you got to make your words go together. Like I said ‘got to’ but if I wrote it, I’d have to say ‘have to’ or ‘must.’ See what I mean? You took AP classes… You know this…”

Well, he’s right about all that, so I turned it on. I’m sure I’ll miss some of the squiggle lines, but I’m going to work on it!

Now as far as meaning to be helpful not hurtful, I want to say something about Shay.

I don’t know her well, but I can tell this—her being rich doesn’t make her happy. Being with people… hanging out with us… Now, that seems to put a smile on her face. I could see it light up when Hannah met her at the top of the stairs.

Money is nice. Sure. Friends? Better, maybe.

I’d say more, but if I did, it wouldn't all fit on Instagram. See you next time!
