Chapter 57: LOOKING AHEAD by Emma Knox

I bet it don’t look like it, but I’m getting ready to go to church. All I gotta do is change my shirt and pants, and I’ll be ready.

Well, November is all but over, and I guess everyone is thinking about Christmas and winter. Brooklyn’s weather has become colder than I like, but I guess it could be a lot worse. And the rain probably makes it feel colder. It’s just over 40°F, which is about like most days of dead winter in Vicksburg.

Now that I said that, I feel like I should look it up!

Okay, I was right! Average for January is 46°F.

So, back to looking ahead to the December holidays, I can tell you that me and everyone here at the apartments are looking forward to them. Work will let up a little for most everyone. Not Jacob, who works at the Apple Store, and not for Noah’s work on the ambulance.

And truthfully, not for me, either, on account that winter is extra hard on homeless people.

All the rest will have a few extra days off and things will slow down some. So, it will be a good time to rest some.

Only thing is, we don’t know if The Pay It Forward Society will come up with a mission for us or not. I guess we’ll just have to wait and find out.

I’ll say this, too. Paul Charm seems to be getting fed up with all the not-knowing. He’s used to his days in the RAF. Even though a mission could come up at any time, there was a structure. He said he could talk to the officers above him and get a straight answer.

But aside from that, everything seems to be fine. December is here, and we’re moving into the holiday season.
