My first day in Memphis (actually Collierville) is in the home stretch. I can’t believe it, honestly.

I got up, got dressed, FaceTimed Michael for our good morning time and Bible devotional, then started working—as if I’m not 1000 miles from home. As if this was just any other day of me working on functions, configuring SQL commands, and tackling the never-ending job of code documentation.

To be totally honest, if I looked at my screen it felt like pretty much any other Tuesday. Anxiety humming along with me… as usual.

I really need to deal with the “you should be doing something else” thoughts. My process on that is to stop, look at my to-do list and the time, and acknowledge that—duh—I am doing the right thing. Outcome, so far—meh.

I had one little panic attack in the middle of the morning. I had to take measures for about ten minutes. I’m blaming it on a stray semi-colon in one of my functions, but it just as well could have been nothing, anything, or something I ate.

Speaking of food… Jordan, in fact, dragged me to Huey’s for what was, in fact, the best hamburger I’ve ever had. Also steak fries? Yes please! There’s no gimmick to the burger. It’s just like you’d make at home.

Now, Michael and I are just leaving Tops, Bar-B-Q. We ate inside, as if I’m not 1000 miles from home in a place I’ve never been to, surrounded by people, cars, trucks, and a level of busyness I can’t recall seeing in years.

Perhaps I’m so overwhelmed by so many “everythings” being new, I don’t have time to be anxious about anything. I’ll take it.

It’s working.

I’ll wrap this up by saying that real hugs are about a zillion times better than FaceTime goodbyes.

If every day goes like this one, I’ll have nothing to complain about. And a lot to celebrate!
