River City Connections — 2025-12-03

Is this my second day in Memphis? Yes! Officially, I am in Collierville, a suburban city on the southeast side of the city.

So, here’s a little twist! It’s an hour earlier in Colorado where my employer is. So, I have two hours before official office hours begin!

I’m going to dig in, though, and get some things done after I get a second cup of coffee. Jordan is up and in the kitchen. Hayes is in her room, and it sounds like she’s taking a shower.

I cannot tell you how different it is to be in a house—apartment, actually—with other people sharing the space and time. I’m not complaining. And also, there are people coming and going outside, too.

This is utterly different from my home, where the next house is thirty yards away and I’m alone in the whole place. And to be honest, it sort of jars my anxiety a little. And to be further honest, I suppose anyone, anxiety disorder or not, who changed their environment as drastically would be equally jarred.

So, as soon as I go get that second cup of coffee, I’m going to drag up a chair, settle in, and get to work.

Michael will come by later, and we’re just going for fast food somewhere.

I didn’t think about meals so much when I invited myself to stay with Jordan and Hayes. And Michael and I can’t impose on their hospitality too much, so we need to figure something out.

I also want to make mention of the temperature. It’s around 25°F here this morning—cold, to be sure, but not the kind of cold that would dominate conversations and newscasts back home! Someone told me this is about 25°F lower than average. I kind of like the idea of that.

But, to wrap things up… So far, so good.
