GOOD MORNING

I’m somewhere between just-woke-up and ready-for-church. This is not my church outfit!

I know that dressing up for church isn’t really necessary at a lot of churches. I just like to wear a dress, probably because it puts me in the right mindset.

To me, dresses mean you’re being intentional. A meeting. Church. Special occasions. Maybe that’s silly—I don’t know…

So, after this post, I’ll finish getting ready.

This afternoon is going to be a little give back day. I’ve been wanting to get out, so today’s the day. And, Jasmine and Micah are going to join me! So, watch for that this afternoon…

With that, I’ll wrap this up. I’ll be back with something after church, so watch for that!

AFTER CHURCH

We’re out of church and decided to take a short walk. Sasha surprised me by having my camera for the picture!

Today was the second week of Advent. The sermon was about the quiet work of God in seasons when nothing seems to be happening at all. The pastor said that Advent isn’t passive waiting—it’s learning to hold hope even when the world feels a little gray. I felt that.

This week has been full but also slow in places, and maybe that’s okay. Maybe the stillness is where we notice what we’ve been missing. I’m taking that with me today—waiting with intention, trusting with patience, and believing that light really is on the way.

We’re about to circle back to the Highlander and head back to the condos. You might recall that we are feasting on all the food left in Sasha and Clay’s unit! They are all set for their trip to St. Croix once the movers get here in the morning and haul all the furniture into storage. After dinner tonight, anything left gets divided into the Bankses’ and my fridges!

So, for a few days until Jason gets back, I guess it’s up to Jasmine, Micah, and me to hold down the fort!

Don’t forget, after lunch, I’ve talked Jasmine and Micah into helping with a give-back thing. Nothing super complex. Just a little litter pick-up walk. More on that soon! See you then!

TORTUGA FLATS BAY

Many hands make light work, right? Well, today, we have six hands here at Tortuga Flats Bay picking up litter.

Tortuga Flats Bay is one of those places you only notice when you slow down long enough to look—shallow, quiet, full of grasses and little channels where the tide drifts in and out. It’s beautiful, but it also collects everything the water carries with it.

After storms or strong winds, the bay acts like a net. Plastic bottles, food wrappers, fishing line… it all washes in from the bay or blows off boats and roadside ditches and ends up tangled in the grasses where turtles, birds, and fish feed.

Jasmine, Micah and I are out here because what looks like “just a little trash” can actually choke a whole ecosystem. Birds get caught in line, turtles mistake plastic for food, and chemicals from broken-down plastics seep into the water.

“Okay,” Jasmine joked at one point, “this isn’t exactly what I envisioned when I said I wanted to be a model! But, I know this is part of the AGI mission, and it’s important.”

“Yeah,” Micah added. “I think I seen pictures from this same spot before.”

Removing the litter isn’t glamorous—muddy feet, messy hands, lots of crouching—but it matters. Every piece we pull out is one less hazard for the wildlife that calls this place home.

Now, for the sales pitch! Dad taught me early in my life that picking up litter costs nothing but time. Just grab a trash bag or even a bag from the store and take a walk.

I would say that 90% of the time Dad and I went for a walk in a park (which we could afford to do, so we did), he had at least a shopping bag, and he’d fill it as we walked. Simple, but important.

Anyone can do it. And if everyone did…

Okay, so, that’s what we’re doing! Thanks for letting me have a little of your time. And, of course, I'll definitely check in later for a goodnight!

See you then!

GOOD NIGHT

Since the weather was kind today, I decided to get out again for another walk around the area. Micah wanted to get a few more things situated before he goes back to work tomorrow, but Jasmine is with me and we are just walking around near our condos.

Some of the shops were still open. There were a few families out getting ice cream, and some of the shops were already glowing from the early holiday lights.

When it became time for the goodnight pictures, I handed Jasmine the camera.

“What do I do?”

Some of you might notice I’m still working out different settings on the new mirrorless. And I still use the old camera and iPhone a lot, too.

“I set it up for a night portrait,” I answered. “Just look at the back screen until you see something you like and press the shutter-release button.”

We were both happy with the results, then I took the camera and had her pose for me.

“You make me feel like I can really do all this…” She smiled and sort of shrugged.

“You can,” I said, “and we’re going to have a lot of fun along the way, too.”

“I can tell that already,” Jasmine replied.

Tomorrow, after the movers leave, Sasha and Clay head for St. Croix. She’ll stay in touch with the contractor overseeing the remodel, which should actually begin before they leave. I’m picturing some chaos as the movers go one way and the construction crew goes the other!

I’m sure it will all work out!

Jason and I talked for a while after the mud flats. He said he wished he could have been here to help, too. Meanwhile, he claims he’s already gained a pound because his mom is spoiling him with every favorite dish! I told him to just enjoy it!

So, now I’ll use that idea to close out today’s diary.

May you be blessed with family and friends who know you and who spoil you with their kindness. May you feel their love and encouragement through all of your days.

Good night.

Be your best you!
