GOOD MORNING
I’m waking up to the second day in Montana with a fairly easy day ahead. Thank you for being with me! I hope you’ll follow along as the day unfolds.
Today, there are a handful of shots Jason wants to redo. They were timed to sun position, so we’ll be sure to be in the right places at the right times to get what he wants.
Other than that, we’ll have time to go slow and just enjoy a day on the mountain. I’ll grab some pictures and share them with you for posts later in the day.
I woke up to a text from Dad just checking in to say he’d checked on the construction crews and everything was going to plan. He added that he ran into Micah and they talked a little, then decided to hit the Whataburger for dinner. Dad said to tell Jasmine that Micah misses her, but can’t stop bragging about what she’s doing.
I feel like Jason had the yeoman’s portion of the work on this trip. I told him last night that I could help more if he could figure out how I can be useful. He said we could use some of our down-time today and look at how we did things.
“Overall,” he said, “we make a great team.”
I added, “Not just when we’re doing a photoshoot, you know…”
He smiled and of course agreed.
We should be home tomorrow night, and then we’ll have a week before we head to St. Croix. I want to sit down with him and… talk about a few things…
Meanwhile, I need to get myself ready for today. I’ll be back later, so see you then!

FRESH FACE
Let me get this post started to say we’ve had a good morning. I’m sharing a few images of us on the mountain. For all intents and purposes, except for a couple of sunset shots, everything for this job is over. For this job…
We were just getting up from lunch when Jasmine’s phone started buzzing with text message notifications. She looked to see what was going on.
"It's Naomi… She said Sasha gave her my number…"
"What did she say?"
Jasmine did a double take. “It says, ‘I have something for you to think about. Since Sasha's out of the picture and you're now managing Ailana, I assume you’re managing your own modeling jobs, too.’”
She looked up at me. “I'm not your manager!”
I smiled. “Well, you sort of are! What did Naomi have for you to think about?"
"She says she got the proofs from Jason when a client was with her and there's a really easy, fast job available if we can get to Denver by Friday night."
“Easy jobs sound good to me,” Jason replied. “What else?”
Jasmine pointed at her phone. “She says to call ASAP.”
I could tell Jasmine was a little unsure, so I made the call and put it on speaker. “Naomi, Ailana here with Jasmine and Jason on speaker.”
Naomi replied. “Is this a good time?”
What unfolded was that she was actually in a face-to-face crisis meeting with an outdoor apparel client when Jason’s proofs came in. He was on the phone at the moment, so Naomi opened the proofs. The client glanced over and pointed at the screen.
“Her! That’s exactly the look. She’s perfect.”
He had been pointing at Jasmine. “We need sweaters photographed on a second model for inclusivity. A model with her coloring so the product page isn’t all one skintone”
Naomi went on. “They need a quick reshoot of two sweaters. It’s less than an hour of work. They needed it yesterday.”
I said she should change the name of her agency to that!
So, looks like we’re diverting to Denver. More on this in a little while. See you then!
A DAY IN DENVER
Since my last post, a lot has happened. Let’s start with Jasmine and me tag-teaming on travel and lodging arrangements. Done!
We also got out on the slopes for a few more pictures and some fun. Done.
Now, for the big report. Naomi called again.
“Okay, a few things… ready?”
The client for the sweaters is an outdoor gear and apparel company. They decided to add a few shots of their “fresh face” African-American model hiking and displaying a backpack. Also some eyewear shots…
“Look,” Naomi added, “I think this won’t be the last opportunity…”
She talked to Jasmine about letting her be her agent. Jasmine said she needed to think about it and would call right back. Then, she asked me what the agent is for.
I explained that they handle all the legal things—contracts, usage rights, payment terms. I said that the agent also finds jobs, negotiates the money, and protects you from anything unfair or unrealistic.
“Basically,” I said, “they make sure you aren’t taken advantage of and that you get paid what you’re worth. You still choose what work you want to do, but an agent makes the whole process professional.”
“I need to call Micah. He’ll agree, but I don’t want to surprise him… You know…after I do it.”
She was right that Micah was in favor, so she called Naomi back. “I wanted to go over it with my husband first, but I definitely will do it.”
Naomi set up all the contracts and forms and used an electronic signing process to get them to Jasmine for signatures. So, over the course of a few hours, Jasmine joined Naomi’s agency where Izzy Duffy and I have been since the very beginning. I guess I took three or four small jobs before I signed on.
Naomi called when everything was done, just to confirm we were all set for Denver, then she added, “Jason, next time we have time, you should let me talk to you about being your rep, too. Keep it all in one place…”
“Absolutely. We’ll talk…”
So that’s it for now! See you tonight!
GOOD NIGHT
Well, Thursday has come to an end, having been filled with surprises! We’re now packing, but not for home—we’re headed to Denver on Friday for another shoot-day on Saturday, then finally home on Sunday.
Over dinner—and before an obligatory soak in the outdoor hot tub—Jason, Jasmine, and I talked about Naomi. They wanted to get a better sense of how she fits into what we’re trying to build with AGI.
“As a modeling agent,” I explained, “she’s the one potential clients will call when they need talent. She matches the right model to the job and handles all the negotiations and paperwork.”
“And what about a photography rep?” Jason asked.
“That part is new for her, but it’s a real thing. Some photographers have reps who do the same job—fielding inquiries, pitching them to clients, and lining up shoots. If Naomi is expanding into that space, it actually makes perfect sense for us.”
“So,” Jason said, “we’re the talent, and she books us…”
“That’s exactly how I see it,” I said. “She brings the opportunities, and we decide what fits our schedules and goals.”
We decided we’d carve out a little of our St. Croix time to go over what was unfolding with Sasha, Josh, Geoni, and Clay. Jasmine had a keen observation.
“Maybe we need to have contracts for everyone… like Ailana and Geoni for photography, too. And everyone for modeling. I mean, like if Jason’s picture was going to be used in the lodge newsletter, he’s a model, too.”
Jason tried to play that off, but in truth, she was right. That would be something to discuss, both the rest of the team and with Naomi.
So that’s where things are as the day comes to an end. And likewise as this diary entry ends, too.
May the unsought opportunities that come your way be satisfying and fit with your life values, goals, and dreams.
Good night.
Be your best you!
