GRATITUDE AND JOY by Cindi Curtis

Good morning from Memphis! It’s sunny and 24°F (≈ -4.4°C). Now, this is proper December weather! Michael disagrees!

Today is the third Sunday of Advent, and the theme is gratitude and joy. I guess I don’t need to tell you where I am on all that!

I woke up this morning to the sound of people talking in the hallway outside my room at the hotel. I didn’t get scared. I didn’t even feel elevated. I just felt grateful that, for some crazy reason, I decided to drop everything and come to Memphis for a month!

And every moment with Michael is joy!

I know that the idea of Advent is to consider these ideas in the context of God. Humanity finds true joy when it lives in God’s presence. Joy comes from God to us.

Some of us get too busy to express our gratitude. Today’s theme is a reminder that we should let our gratitude to God be frequent and sincere. Stop and think about it. And express that.

Then, that attitude should be extended to those around us. Stop and think about the things around you for which you should be grateful. We shouldn’t let ourselves get too busy to express that, also.

It’s time to head in. And that’s just one little thing Michael says he’s grateful for—getting out of the Colorado-style weather!

UM? WELL… OKAY… by Michael Allen

There’s a little conversation leading up to this post. And this post is about a different conversation than the one that led up to it!

“You have to post this!” Cindi said.

“Me? Why me?”

“Look where we were! I can’t post this!”

“Where we were is exactly why I can’t post it!”

Cindi shook her head. “You have to!”

“I will,” I said, “but you better accept the collaboration request!”

So, here we go… So, here we go… Cindi and I are in what my grandmother would have called the ladies unmentionables department in a store out in Saddle Creek. Cindi wanted a robe…

“You know… when you get out of the shower but you’re not quite dry enough to start getting dressed…”

I told her I’d pretend to understand the concept, and that if she wanted ten robes, that would be fine.

So, here we are, Cindi holding a fuzzy bathrobe and looking at the price tag. Just then a woman I’d guess to be late-80s comes by on her walker.

She stops just as casually as if she were shopping with us and said to Cindi, pointing at the robe, “Honey, your husband would like you to get something with lace and shine! That one’s as dull as my hearing! You need some sizzle and pazazz!”

Cindi smiled, a little stunned. “Ma’am?”

“Trust me, Honey!” She winked. “I was married 63 years, and I know a thing or two about keeping your husband happy!”

Then, just as casually as she had approached, she moved on, leaving us both slack-jawed as we watched her stop to look at satin pajamas.

Cindi folded the fuzzy bathrobe over one arm, took my hand and pulled me toward the cashier. She didn’t say a word until we got in line.

And that’s when she said, “You have to post this!”

Also, for the record, the woman’s use of the word “husband” was gently ignored!

"Thank You" Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post, not counting hardware, AGI Stories racks up expenses of just at $100 per month.

Patreon members… You are covering a nice portion of that.

I believe most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. That means so much to me! I am honored and greatly moved.

While most of the content on AGI Stories is free and much of it is public, the hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!

Again, thank you very, very much.

UM? WELL… OKAY… by Michael Allen. You got me laughing on this one at the end. But, collaboration request? Didn't I see an earlier mention of a collaboration request? Roman and Hayes? Anyway, gently ignore it for now, but I think that elephant is waiting to come into the room. Thanks for posting. Have a great day, sir.
