CHRISTMAS GREETING by Jordan Warner

What’s better than Christmas Eve at your parents’ house? Like, Mom’s been cooking and baking! Tough to top that.

Quick updates…

I haven’t bawled my eyes out on anyone’s shoulder in a few days. Carter was a champ to let me get away with that—he never mentioned it afterward. He lives with his parents, so that’s where he is.

Hayes drove to Nashville to be with her parents for the next few days.

Roman is headed to Lexington, Kentucky, to be with his parents and sister. He’s probably wishing he was in Nashville. OH! Did I say that out loud?

If you need to ask about Michael and Cindi, you can go back a few of Cindi’s posts and take a guess! Michael is actually working today. Cindi is at his condo, watching him and decorating. (He’s been busy.)

They are going to do their gift exchange tonight. Poor Michael had to get me to pick out a gag gift for Cindi. He wasn’t sure about my choice, but eventually agreed.

In a few minutes, Dad and I are going to the church to meet others. We’re going to put together gift packs for our homeless ministry—backpacks filled with individually wrapped food items, one-size-fits-all socks, blankets, soap, combs, hair brushes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, Band-Aids, lip balm… Stuff we take for granted. Also, small packs of hand sanitizer, wet wipes, deodorant…

Dad’s done this before, so when the committee met, he emphasized socks and wet wipes. Those items go fast every time.

Later, we’ll split up in cars and drive around to hand them out. It’s warm, so a lot of people will skip the shelters and be sleeping on the streets, so it should be pretty easy to give away all the packs.

I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas. Do your thing, have some fun, eat some cookies, and…

…sorry, this will sound sanctimonious…

…say a prayer for others who can’t do those things.

Be your best you!

GIFT EXCHANGE by Cindi Curtis

Merry Christmas Eve! I hope everyone is having a wonderful evening.

Michael and I are exchanging gifts: one gag gift and one that is supposed to be meaningful.

He handed me two boxes and said, “You start.”

“Which one?”

“You pick,” he said.

I picked the bigger one first and put the small box on the floor. Michael sort of fidgeted beside me.

“Are you nervous?”

He laughed. “Well, I trusted Jordan to help with the choice on this… so…”

“Uh-oh…” I laughed.

I popped the taped edges of the wrapping paper and peeled it back. Inside the box was a slinky lace teddy nightgown.

I felt myself jolt; my mind raced. I thought that I actually could wear it.

My thoughts jumped back in time five years, to when I would have been terrified to just be in public.

Then, they raced to now. I’m moving. I have friends. And I have Michael.

“I love it!” My words gushed out. “It’s beautiful!”

Michael didn’t seem sure how to respond. “Cindi, that’s… it’s… That’s the gag-gift. It was like $9.00.”

I couldn’t help myself—I leaned over and kissed his cheek, then my mouth just blurted out something I’d never have said. “Well, that’s okay… Maybe it will last through the first time I wear it for you…”

Oops…

Michael gave me a did-you-just-say-that look. “What… did you say?”

Backtracking mode activated. “Maybe it will last through me wearing it once. It’s a really fun gift!”

Michael let me get away with it. “Really, I had no idea what to do for a gag-gift, so thank Jordan!”

My gag-gift to him was really dumb: Snowman socks. My serious gift was a wallet/iPhone case, and he said he loved it.

“I’ve been thinking about one of these! One less thing to put in my pockets.”

Then I opened his serious gift. A gold cross on a gold chain.

“Oh my!” I could hardly believe it. “Michael, this is beautiful.”

He smiled, kissed my cheek, and summed up the whole point of Christmas. “A gift that is a symbol of the greatest gift.”

That’s how Christmas Eve went for us.

I believe most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. That means so much to me! I am honored and greatly moved.

While most of the content on AGI Stories is free and much of it is public, the hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!

CHRISTMAS GREETING by Jordan Warner. It isn't sanctimonious if you're not asking for credit, which you are not. What you are doing, Jordan, is benevolence. Carter is a champ to let it go. We all figure Roman's heart went to Nashville. It's OK to say it out loud. And Michael and Cindi are together. Wonderful. Glad you are there to help your dad with the homeless ministry. The two of you are leading by example. You never know who you might inspire. Thank you for the update. Have a blessed and merry Christmas Eve. BTW, great sweater!

I suspect something...um, hmm. Anyway, I agree with you, Cindi, that is a beautiful gift from Michael. Truly. Thank you for your update post , Cindi. May the two of you have a blessed Christmas Eve.
