GOOD MORNING
I’m a little surprised right now. My plan backfired.
We have the bracelet photo-shoot today, and Jason and I agreed to hit the Whataburger for some fast breakfast before the overnight delivery is supposed to get here. At the appointed time, I was at his door.
My plan? Surprise Jason with a picture right as he opened the door.
The surprise was on me when he opened the door wrapped only in a bath towel. “Running late… give me a minute…”
He left the door open and headed back inside—but not before I snapped the picture. (He said I can share it.) I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the picture. It’s just that he’s never done anything like that before. Moving on…
Today, after breakfast, we are expecting a delivery from Naomi Prior with bracelets we’re to model and photograph. We arranged access to the building where we will eventually have our studio, so we’re going to use it today for the photos.
It should be a really easy day. Actually, it will go faster than the jeans shoot we did, but it will still add valuable experience in running a session that will help us in the future.
If I can wax into a generalization about life, isn’t that the way we grow? Each experience adds to what we know and becomes the groundwork for the future.
So, besides the great opportunity to do a fast, easy modeling session, we also are going to learn valuable lessons for future sessions.
And it will be great to share the day with you. See you soon!

SUCCESS!
The bracelet shoot was even easier than I imagined it would be. Jason, Geoni, and I got the lights and camera set up while Sasha and Jasmine organized all of the products. The few outfit changes were staged in a side room. Getting ready was smooth and fast.
I suppose I could say more about the shoot, but if I did, I’d probably just be saying what I just said with different words.
I’ll talk a little about the soon-to-be-our studio instead. In the image you can see that our part of the building is what was the storage area of the old furniture store. It has a loading dock entrance with the thing where trucks go down a ramp to get the back of the truck to dock height. It has a couple other doors, as well.
We’re going to keep one of the doors from back here into Kirina’s new sandwich shop/art gallery. There’s great parking on both sides of the building. It is right on a crosswalk so people from across the street will have easy access to Kirina’s shop.
We are fairly close to the causeway, so access is easy. We can get here from home in like ten minutes or so. The street is active with other shops and offices—but no places to eat within a few blocks.
Kirina nailed the location! The only unoccupied building is across the street and down a couple of buildings. It was a dental surgery building. The sign says, “Periodontal and Endodontal Associates of Cameron County.” I don’t know anything else about it, but it looks like it’s in good shape.
What you can see is about two-thirds of the space we’ll be leasing. There are rooms (as you can see) along the walls, and the plan is to set a couple of them up as dressing rooms. There will be an area with sofas and a computer workstation Geoni has envisioned as a review area where people can gather and hang out while looking at images.
Really, it is all a work in progress, but the most important aspect of it is that it is big and there are no windows in the main area—which makes controlling the lighting easier.
That’s about it for now. I think Jasmine is trying to lobby for a group pot-luck dinner in the AGI Creative work area back at the condos, and I don’t think anyone is disagreeing.
I’ll check in later tonight, as I do!
See you then!
COUNTING DOWN by Vanessa Lenen
Between my mom sending some things from home and Amazon, I now have enough clothes to get through a little more than a week without doing laundry! But not too much that leaving New York will be problematic when it comes to packing.
If I leave.
One of the doctors I worked with in Tibet and India—Amir Kumar—called about the possibility of a research position in the Brownsville, Texas area. David—the whole reason I’m working as an interim EMT here—thought it sounded interesting.
“Reading between the lines of the non-disclosure business,” he said, “it sounds like vaccination research with communities and immigrants. And the man’s offering you a swivel chair, so you have to consider this. Joking aside, research, state-side, in your field. There’s a lot to like.”
David is on his way to pick me up for dinner. Hotel life isn’t bad compared to living in the side room of the clinic’s lab in Tibet. I can’t stay here forever, but as long as I can keep getting shifts with PriorityCare Ambulance Services, I’m breaking even.
Things between David and me are still sort of storybook, to be honest. While I don’t have a storied romantic history, if a good one involves feeling at ease and relaxed, connecting on work interests, sharing values, morals, and religious views, and liking a lot of the same things that matters, then things are really, really going well.
Bonus points: I like how he kisses. I like how he holds the door for me. I like how he lets me hold his arm as we walk.
Like I said, I don’t have much to compare it to, but this feels like how romance is supposed to go.
So, that’s where things are now…me between worlds, trying to decide what to do next.
GOOD NIGHT
I hope everyone had a great Friday. I am happy to report that I did. And, as you see, I’m on the beach!
Now, here’s a huge shocker!
Tonight, we (Sasha, Geoni, Jasmine, and I) jog-walked.
Unexpectedly, Sasha and Clay got some prototype fitness/gym samples. I’ll skip over their confusion and get to the four of us testing them out.
We are way south of our normal area. I’ll say that the apparel did its job. The fit is comfortable and everything stayed where it was supposed to stay.
Another success? I’d say yes.
Jasmine’s potluck idea was also a success. This time, we probably had only about one and a half times as much food as we needed!
I do have something sort of thoughtful to share, so here you go:
At one point, I went with Sasha back to her unit to get some lemons for the iced tea.
I mentioned Jason coming to the door in a towel—and that I was a little shocked. “Not that it was bad, but just that I felt myself blushing…”
She laughed. “The queen of blanket pictures was embarrassed? That’s a surprise!”
I laughed. “I’ve seen him wrapped in a towel on the beach more times than I can count. How was this different?”
She handed me the knife to cut the lemons. “Because humans are strange. You weren’t blushing at the towel. You were blushing at what you imagined might not be under it.”
“Okay, thanks…” I said. “I’m blushing again!”
“Trust me,” she said. “Humans are very strange creatures.”
We finished up what we were doing and rejoined the others. I think she’s right, though.
So, now it’s time to head back to Beach Access #7 and get home. I think the jogging test is over, and it’s time for the casual-strolling test.
See you tomorrow.
May many of your days go more smoothly than you expect, resulting in outcomes that far exceed your expectations.
Good night.
Be your best you!
